What is the rule?

I looked it up. Apparently you can fair catch it from anywhere inside the 25 and the ball will be moved to the 25 yard line.

That's stupid.  Hopefully the owners continue to vote down.

Can you fathom the attention and adulation grab he's going to make/expect with his retirement?  It will make Brady look like someone who quietly slipped out the back door.  For the architect of "the decision" and "the chosen one" tattoo, he's going to do everything possible to go out big.

At what point do you just eliminate kickoffs from the game?

Touchbacks, eliminating the wedge, moving to the 25 when the average return goes to the 25, now with "touchbacks" that aren't even in the end zone.  If data shows that kickoffs are so dangerous (I don't know if that is or isn't the case)...and the league has already rendered them irrelevant...then just put kickoffs out of their misery and have teams start at their 25 after a score.

Well now kick returner is completely obsolete.

Eagles are ahead of the times on that one.  That's been an obsolete position on this roster for years.

This should change roster construction too.  FGs will always be important, but no one besides K/LS makes the team for that.

ST is now reduced to PR and punt coverage.

Might as well just save Elliotts leg and have Zetner kick off at this point too

True

Teams will still return kickoffs if you demonstrate you can't cover them ....

If anything a fair catch outside of the endOne should bring thr ball to the 20.

RIP NFL Kickoffs

The days of Brian Mitchell, Devin Hester, Dante Hall, etc. were already on life support. This just smothered them with a soft, cushy pillow and let them take their last breath.

There seems very little point in returning a ball now following a kickoff...odds are, on average, fair catching it to the 25yd line will work out far better for a team, on balance, over the course of a game/season...

What's next...do away with punts aswell and simply place the ball 40 yards down field from the line of scrimmage...tag football sure is becoming popular!

Teams will still choose to return kicks against our sorry kick coverage team.

One step closer to flag football.

It's usually a touchback now anyway after that last rule change they did

I really like the way the XFL does kickoffs, instead of making rules to essentially take KR out of the game they made it so KRs are part of the game and safer, NFL could adopt  similar kickoff rules as the XFL if they weren't so stubborn.

Falcons sign WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

The Falcons have signed WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside on Monday Tori McElhaney of the team's official website reports. In a corresponding move, the Falcons have placed WR Jared Bernhardt on the reserve/retired list.

Arcega-Whiteside was one of a large contingency of players trying out for the Falcons two weeks ago at rookie minicamp.

Arcega-Whiteside spent part of the 2022 season with the Seahawks, having been signed to their practice squad in August. He was released in November.

Arcega-Whiteside got his start in the league after the Philadelphia Eagles drafted him with the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. His first year in the league was his most productive, finishing the season having caught 10 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown. In the three years since, Arcega-Whiteside saw action in 24 games, making two starts, with six receptions for 121 yards.

That dweeb Solak saying Hurts is a borderline top 10 QB and behind Dak in the NFC.

I think Hurts is a top QB in the NFL for sure.  Not behind Dak but I don't know where he falls in the top 10.  He had an incredible season in 2022.  Now I want to see the same in 2023 and more for him to be a considered a top 3 QB.  I don't see a better QB in the NFC but it will be interesting to see if Fields takes a giant leap like Hurts did last year.  I think Fields is going to put the most pressure on Hurts in the NFC.  Dak is what he is and I think he'll only decline from here on out.

JJ likes being a bird apparently.  Put your $$ on him going to Arizona next to complete the bird sweep
