I know he’s hated in the city right now, but I still wish the Eagles found a way to keep CGJ and salvage that situation, because unlike some I do believe that situation was salvageable if they cared enough, I just don’t think they cared enough. Especially if he has a big year and the Eagles safeties struggle this year.

As events transpired, the Eagles were choosing between Bradberry, Slay, and CGJ.  Bradberry and Slay agreed to terms within one day or so, where CGJ said no -- and went exploring the UFA market.  Eagles organizational philosophy places CB higher in the pecking order than safety.

Virtually identical. Do they just copy and paste texts from player agents?

He ended up signing for only like 6 million though(worth up to 8 million).

They always could have afforded that if they had the desire to jump back in the mix and repair any bad blood that arose between parties. Which they didn’t do.

You forgot Eli Ricks.

Look back to 2018. The Eagles were trying to run it back after SB52. The Eagles had as many as 10 CB on the roster. I'd argue none of the guys on the bench had nearly the talent that the current group has.

The starters were Ronald Darby, Jalen Mils and Rasul Douglas.

De'Vante Bausby, Josh Hawkins, Sidney Jones, Cre'von LeBlanc, Dexter McDougle, Chandon Sullivan were the guys they kept on the roster throughout the year.

This was before the practice squad rules changed and haven't roster rules changed even more this year?

I'd have no problem keeping Ringo, Jobe, McPhearson, Garner, Ricks and Goodrich. Even better if Ringo learns some safety.

If those 6 are added to Slay, Bradberry, and Maddox on the 53-man, then you need to go light at some other positions.  With deference to Archie Bell, where would you tighten up?

Wonder if he didn't like the price and is trying to get a bidding war going

Yep, I guessed it.  There is DeVonta is the top right pic.

That sentence is too light.  WAY too light.

I blew it on the first square I tried to fill, forgetting that Sam Mills never made All Pro with the Saints.  Almost had to go to a rage-aholics meeting afterward.

Took it out on the hockey grid instead

could not think of a Viking/Bengal

Just reading up on Desai and found this interesting article on him from Miami press on his background, personality and coaching style.  There may be a transition period but I think he is good, cerebral coach who offers more than Gannon.

Interesting/intriguing quote from that article ...

"How he teaches is definitely clear and concise, which is a very important thing," Seattle defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt said. "But also, as a teacher, he’s always thinking ahead. What is the next issue that’s going to come up, how people are going to attack you when you’re doing things a certain way. He’s very ahead when it comes to that, just thinking what is the next formula to come up with to solve the next problem? It makes him very unique.”

An interesting take on the Phillies

Stock Watch: What all 30 MLB teams must do down the stretch

8. Philadelphia Phillies

Sim wins: 87.3 (change: +2.3)
Probabilities: 0% (division), 83% (playoffs), 3% (title)

End-of-season prime directive: It's easy to be snarky here and suggest the Phillies may need to ease up on things a little. As was the case last year for the NL pennant winners, their path to the postseason is a wild card. However, at the moment they would be slotted into a 4-versus-5 matchup against the Giants, with the top-seeded Braves waiting in the next round. Last year, the Phillies got their October run started in a wild-card matchup as the sixth seed going against the third-best division champ. As with last season, that's going to be the NL Central winner, though we don't know who among the Brewers, Cubs and Reds will emerge. Alas, the Phillies may be playing too well to slip down to the six-slot. Thus, even though the Phillies aren't going to catch the Braves for the NL East title, they need to keep doing what they've been doing since early June.

I’d add with the giants currently in the 4 vs. 5 matchup, they’ve really struggled with them since 2021. phillies are 3-12 and lost 6 straight to them and 6 straight in SF. It’d be nice if we take the series against them later this month.

Man if castellanos, Turner, harper and schwarber all get going at the same time this lineup can be really ridiculous.

Back to Eagles thoughts.  I was fiddling around with my Roster spreadsheet and categorizing tghe 90 players into four categories ... 53-man Roster ... Howie's Trade Candidates ... Practice Squad Candidates .. Camp Bodies

I only got 8 players in the Camp Bodies category

Kennedy Brooks
Johnny King
Roderick Johnson
Fred Johnson
Julian Good-Jones
Cameron Tom
Kentavius Street
Ty Zentner

You could add Greedy Williams to that list based on his performance

WILSON!!!

I have the following five in the Trade Candidates category.  Do you think Howie can get anything for any of them?

Boston Scott
Greg Ward
Dan Arnold
Josiah Scott
Greedy Williams

Lorenzen already at 53 pitches after 3 innings.  Gonna be a Bullpen game.

Ian Book sounds like he’s firmly in the middle of PS candidate and camp body.

There’s also something called a Brady Russell who falls into his own special nepotism category.

That is where I have Book as well, but he toppled into the PS bucket when pushed.

I have Russell in the PS bucket as well.
