If competition really mattered to Nick, he’d play the starters all four quarters to snap the Ravens’ win streak.

I don't care about the streak but I'm not a fan of our guys getting blitzed 24/7 in a fake game.

Ravens preseason week is always about getting out healthy.

Unless it is called early due to weather concerns or poor field conditions, ala Bill Belichek complaining about the Vet turf.

That was Brian Billick.

Who cares about health when there’s a preseason win streak on the line?

I take it as a great sign they think enough of his intelligence and skill to be comfortable enough to train him at two very different positions during his rookie camp. Nobody would expect perfection as a 3rd round pick in that situation.

The backup situation will be weird this year.

If Mailata gets hurt, does Steen play LT?
If Kelce/Jurgens get hurt, does it mean it's Kelce-Steen or Jurgens-Steen instead of Andrews-Jurgens?
If Lane misses time, does Dennis Kelly get first up?

Not as clear-cut as last year.

More will be revealed in the next month.  TC, both by Beats and fans, tends to be myopic in having such a focus on individual success in drills where we really have no clue as to what the coach focus is.  I think of Big V as an example.  He was panned until he had to start in 2017.  But the coaches realized where he needed help and the focus of that help.  Some of that knowledge came from watching him in TC and the PS.   Anybody remember Mailata’s nemesis Ostman?  There was a rush Jordan needed to learn to deal with so they threw it at him over and over.  That was a focus but caused great concern about Mailata at the time.  I am not worried.  Heck I am also not going to read anything into Toth going to 3rd team LG or Kelly to 3rd team RT.  And until Kempski and Gowton start referencing anchor, hand placement, punch, footwork, etc. I am giving no heed to,their comments one way or another on any OL.

Yea, and that's been my biggest gripe about him....he's here JUST for PR, not even KR too. I wish he was able to contribute in other ways.

bp, I hear what you are saying, but let me propose an alternative perspective.  Covey arrived at Training Camp last year as a long shot UDFA.  His path to a roster spot was full of pot holes.  He saw an opportunity to navigate those pot holes by winning the Punt Returner position ... it really was the avenue of least resistance.  He succeeded.  I would argue in large part by NOT devoting much of any time to developing as a Wide Receiver.  It was a KISS aproach.  With that said, he did improve substantially as the Punt Returner as the season progressed, and on the biggest stage, the last game of the year, was actually quite good.

So he arrived at Training Camp this year in a very different situation.  He no longer has the pot holes in his road to being the team's best Punt Returner, so he can, and is doing, everything he can to improve his development as a Wide Receiver.  If he can improve there as much as he improved as the team's Punt Returner, he could very well end up as a decent second string WR.  I for one am not going to prejudge him based on his WR reps from last season.

As I said above, that is an alternative take.  I don't say it is the correct take, but I do say it is one worth considering.

Yup.  I saw his face in my mind... and went with the wrong BB name.  I'm mad.

Anyone buying this Kenny g is the early down feature back?

Yes

Christian Elliss barring a trade is going to start, I think that’s pretty obvious. Nolan Smith being tied with Johnson means likely Nolan Smith will be the first rotational edge from that spot.

Steen being RG when he’s said to have been even better at tackle is notable. Shows his versatility.

Rings and Jobe backups.

RB they didn’t pick a RB1 lol

Eagles likely counter and don’t play their starters. Don’t see what use it would be to have the starters go against 2nd teamers.

Start everyone and end that stupid streak.

Since the 2020 debacle, they've been ultra conservative. I don't even think they risk primary backups. We're gonna see a loooot of Johnny King and the like.

It's funny what people do when they aren't making money on a project

I guess let's give it a shot. This team is so deep, I'm cutting guys that can play.

QB (3): Hurts, Mariota, McKee -- nice knowing you Ian Book. I think they carry 3 and don't risk losing McKee, but if they go with 2, I'd put a 10th OL on team (likely Opeta or Kelly)

RB (4): Penny, Swift, Gainwell, Scott -- I really am torn between Scott and Sermon, and it could come down to preseason. Scott makes it based on being the KR. Hope Sermon gets to PS

WR (5): Brown, Smith, Watkins, Zaccheus, Covey. Ngata getting 1st team reps is interesting, but I think they try and sneak him to PS to go heavier somewhere else.

TE (3): Goedert, Stoll, Calcaterra. No real drama here

OL (9): Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Jurgens, Johnson, Steen, Andrews, Sills, Driscoll. They liked Sills enough to keep him last year and bring him right back this year. Wouldn't be shocked if they find a way to keep Kelly.

Total Offense -- 24

DE (3): Sweat, Graham, Barnett. Only 5 in camp, don't think Jackson or Robinson make the 53.

DT (6): Cox, Davis, Carter, Williams, Tuli, Ojomo. I wouldn't expose Ojomo to waivers. I'd love Ellis to make the PS.

OLB (3): Reddick, Smith, P. Johnson. Sorry Kyron, who is a good special teams player

ILB (4): Dean, Ellis, Jack, Cunningham. Yeah, I'm dumping Morrow

CB (6): Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Ringo, Jobe, McPhearson. I just can't cut any of these guys

S (4): Blankenship, Wallace, Brown, Edmunds. K'Von seems to have made the team

Total Defense -- 26

Lovato, Elliot and Siposs

Left Tackle at Alabama, most of those guys are pretty talented. Let’s hope he can contribute if needed this year.

A lot of those don’t align with what my ears have heard.  But my eyes have been telling my ears that they a full of sheet for a long time.

Seeing is believing.

Interesting that they have Sydney Brown behind Blankenship. Not sure if that's irrelevant if they consider their safeties interchangeable or not.

Wallace starting week 1 would be an abomination. This team has way too much love for that guy who's done nothing here and absolutely sucks.

Well... poop.  Oh well.  Gotta get past the Braves one way or another, I guess.  Did it in '93, did it again last year.  Can do it again.  :flex:. Go :phil:hils!!

I’m a Braves fan we aren’t good right now have to score 6-7 a night to win, pitching is smoke and mirrors with stats. Been sus post all star game.

Going to the game on Saturday. Bacarty better be watchin his back

I agree that McKee is ahead of Book, but for week One I wouldn't be surprised if they only went with 2 QBs, and then checked out the waiver wire

My gut says they go with Sermon, while my head says Scott ... and in this case my gut wins over my head.

By going with only 2 QBs I can keep Ngata

Opeta has made it to the Practice Squad before and will again.  No one wants Kelly, so he goes to the Practice Squad as well

Agreed on Jackson/Robinson.  I too want to see Elliss on the Practice Squad.  The interesting unknown is what the heck is going on with Street.

OLB (3): Reddick, Smith, P. Johnson. Sorry Kyron, who is a good special teams player

Kyron may make it because of his STs contribution.  The status of Patrick's ankle may make him a Week One IR candidate.

I  don't see Morrow dumped.  Instead I expect either Jack or Cunningham to make it, but not both.

Neither can I.  In addition I hope we see Goodrich, Gardner and Ricks on the Practice Squad

That looks right, although we probably shouldnt write off Evans yet.

Lovato, Elliot and Siposs

Yup. and I don't see them changing from Siposs based on any waiver claims.

The Braves pitching and the Phillies pitching are going in opposite directions.  For the season they have virtually identical ERAs, but the Braves were good early and not so good later, while the Phillies were not so good early and much better lately.
