The Braves pitching and the Phillies pitching are going in opposite directions.  For the season they have virtually identical ERAs, but the Braves were good early and not so good later, while the Phillies were not so good early and much better lately.

Yup I’m worried a big move for a starter needed to have been made and they didn’t do it. I’m feeling one and done if they don’t have a hot streak of hitting. The power is there the pitching is terrible.

Eagles poised to set the league on fire with 50 personnel.

bp, I hear what you are saying, but let me propose an alternative perspective.  Covey arrived at Training Camp last year as a long shot UDFA.  His path to a roster spot was full of pot holes.  He saw an opportunity to navigate those pot holes by winning the Punt Returner position ... it really was the avenue of least resistance.  He succeeded.  I would argue in large part by NOT devoting much of any time to developing as a Wide Receiver.  It was a KISS aproach.  With that said, he did improve substantially as the Punt Returner as the season progressed, and on the biggest stage, the last game of the year, was actually quite good.

So he arrived at Training Camp this year in a very different situation.  He no longer has the pot holes in his road to being the team's best Punt Returner, so he can, and is doing, everything he can to improve his development as a Wide Receiver.  If he can improve there as much as he improved as the team's Punt Returner, he could very well end up as a decent second string WR.  I for one am not going to prejudge him based on his WR reps from last season.

As I said above, that is an alternative take.  I don't say it is the correct take, but I do say it is one worth considering.

I've always hoped that he could. He was tremendous at Utah. Would love to see that happen with him.

Poor Kennedy Brooks. The Eagles have 5 RB1 and then Brooks.

Of course I haven't seen any of it with my own eyes yet, but at least the guys covering TC are reporting that Covey has been doing a nice job gaining separation. If so, that's a good sign. If Watkins gets hurt, Covey may be able to fill in effectively. If Brown or Smith gets hurt, Watkins can move outside and have Covey fill in at slot.

I'll always wish Covey was a little bigger and I seriously doubt he'll ever add muscle mass, but players his size have thrived in the slot. So that gives us some options if he can make plays there. It also might help decide how many WRs are active on certain game days if we need to go heavy at another position.

Back to Eagles thoughts.  I was fiddling around with my Roster spreadsheet and categorizing tghe 90 players into four categories ... 53-man Roster ... Howie's Trade Candidates ... Practice Squad Candidates .. Camp Bodies

I only got 8 players in the Camp Bodies category

Kennedy Brooks
Johnny King
Roderick Johnson
Fred Johnson
Julian Good-Jones
Cameron Tom
Kentavius Street
Ty Zentner

You could add Greedy Williams to that list based on his performance

I forgot about Haselwood. I don’t think I’ve heard or read his name even one time so far. I think he feels more like a camp body than practice squad guy. I think Ngata and Ward go to the PS, and Allen/Cain might be ahead of Haselwood too.

saw the eagles depth chart didn't seem vansumeran did he get cut?

I don’t think he has been officially cut just yet, but he’s listed there…At MIKE…behind Dean, Bradley, and Jack

My son, a current Spartan, was rooting for him to make it.  I told him not to hold his breath.

The exact opposite is the Giants.  Solid pitching, but not able to generate runs.  I was just out running errands and On KNBR 680  (SF sports radio) Tom Tolbert and Adam Copeland were taliking about the Giants and their upcoming schedule of 15 games.  Tolbert predicted that they would win 4 of those 15 games and lose 11.  His logic was that:

  • The three games with the Rangers is a mismatch with the Rangers having both a powerful offense and solid pitching.
  • He felt the story is the same in the following three games with the Rays.
  • Then comes three games on the road with the Braves,
  • Followed by three road games at the Phillies.
  • They get a day off to travel back to San Fran and then host the Braves for three
  • Followed by the Reds for three

It's a brutal schedule and a mismatch of strengths and weaknesses for the Giants.

Almost seems like they should have signed him PRIOR to the NFC CG, if they were going to do that.  Then they would have had a 3rd QB for the game.

He wanted no part of the Eagles

Game late and a dollar short.

I have a standing bet with a colleague (Niners fan), that if Brock Purdy starts in this years Eagles-Niners game, the Eagles will, once again, knock him out of the game.

He would have ended up in the tent with the first 2. Sitting duck QB.

Trea round of applause Turner!

I like the new Trea Turner.

This offseason, Johan Rojas needs to become a better bunter.  With his speed, a 'sacrifice' like he just attempted can turn into a hit quite often if he becomes proficient at the bunt.
