Didn’t get to watch the game. Can someone give me the lowdown on how Ringo looked? To me he’s the most interesting draft pick we had.

Up and down. He was beat for a TD but later had a nice PBU on 3rd down. Both were against Josh Johnson.

He got beat on some back shoulder fades, but is competitive most reps.

I think Eli Ricks and Mekhi Garner have higher CB1 potential than Ringo. I hope all 3 of them stick around.

As impressive as Ricks was with nearly 2 pick 6s, Garner was consistently making himself known for a long stretch in the game. I think he may have had the best overall game of the backup DBs.

Trouble is, Im not sure if any of these guys can stick on our PS. Each of them may get snatched up by another team.

I think its gotta be time to let Zech go to make room for another one of these guys.

Watching the game now. Blah its the sucky ravens broadcast

Have fun not hearing the names of any Eagles players involved on a play. I think they did mention "Kelce Ringo" once, though.

It really doesn't matter what team is in charge, preseason coverage is the worst. I'd like to punch pretty much any producer in the face for the garbage they regularly dish out. Some thoughts:

  • Some replays would be nice.
  • At the very least attempt to mention players on both teams involved on the play.
  • Sideline interviews with players in street clothes could have been done and aired before the game. Doing this while there is an actual game going on is disgraceful.
  • We have the ability and technology to show not only the play when the ball is snapped, but the moments leading up to this while teams are lining up. The sideline is always less important than the field.
  • When a player is injured and being carted off the field, maybe cover this or mention his name ... something.
  • Consider the audience. What type of fan is really watching a meaningless preseason game on TV? Mostly fans that want to evaluate players they are curious about. Try catering the broadcast to them instead of showcasing your in house TV crew's lack of skills.

-There are some WR with really good size who are going to stick around on the PS. I liked Haselwood the most out of the bunch. Another elite talent that you take a gamble that he realizes his potential. Didn't realize he was the #4 recruit going in to his freshman year of ball.

There was a lot to like about the play we saw last night, The up and down the roster play of the WRs was possibly the best (although the running of Swift and Penny was damn good as well)  I had no expectations of Tyrie Cleveland. He really opened my eyes.  Greg Ward was the saavy veteran we know he is.  Hopefully he is willing to spend another year on the Practice Squad.  I agree with you on Haselwood.  Johnny King's one catch was a beauty.  Ngata in this game was not as noteworthy as the Ngata of Traning Camp reports, but he wasn't bad, just not as noteworthy as the others.

It is fun to imagine what the fourth quarter would have looked like if Ian Book wasn't the QB.

I'm really looking forward to next week's game.

Who’s the source?

In this case the source/messenger is irrelevant.  The important focus is the message/assessment itself.

Just a couple of odds and ends.

On Swift's 22-yard run, Steen and Stoll wiped out the DE and LB. Swift then left the safety for dead.

Opeta had a rough first half. Several whiffs. Andrews had a whiff too, and a few high snaps.

Steen pulled a number of times. He doesn't have his steps down yet but he can move.

Can you breakdown the sack we gave up on first possession?

i cant tell If Steen screwed up or the guard should have passed off and picked up the blitzing LB

What do others think about Howie finding a trade partner for Zech?

How much did Jordan Davis play and how did he look?

I still want an upgrade at TE2.

i thought arnold did a poor job to move the chains where he was thrown the ball without breaking stride , instead of breaking up field he went toward the sidelines coming up a yard short to get the 1st down and causing the team to punt. jackson didn't get a chance to show, calcaterra was open deep but was over thrown.

Consider the source, but …

5. All the safety candidates did some good things, and that competition for the second starting spot across from Reid Blankenship is getting really interesting. Terrell Edmunds had a sack and tackle for loss, K’Von Wallace was very active with five tackles, rookie Sydney Brown had four tackles and even Justin Evans – who’s been barely noticeable at training camp – had a couple big hits. I still think Edmunds is the leading candidate, but it’s a crowded field, and none of those guys hurt themselves in Baltimore.

I think it should be a platoon between Edmunds and Brown.  Edmunds is going to be the most reliable vet and Brown is the youngster with upside and playmaking…but will make some learning mistakes.  Wallace is neither.

Played the first 2 series. Didn't stand out. Honestly, wasn't impressed.

Only preseason, but that clock is officially ticking.

I wonder if DT will be a rotation of Cox/Carter/Williams/Davis that leans into Carter and Williams in pass rush situations and Cox/Davis in running situations.

Jordan Davis didn't play enough for me to get concerned. He did get some double-teams, but I'd like to see a bit more. At this point, it's Carter/Williams/Graham as inside pass-rushers on 3rd and long.

In general, I thought none of our iDL were great against the run last night.

I thought Sermon looked powerful. I was not at all disappointed with him, truth be told.

The only thing I don't like about Sermon is how broadcasters try to use wordplay with his name in awful ways.

Tommy Lawlor's assessments from igglesblitz.com

  • Nolan Smith was more up and down. His first standout play was a mistake that led to a 37-yard run. Smith went looking for the ball inside and lost contain. RB Justice Hill bounced the play to where Smith had been and took off. That set up a TD. Smith seemed to do a good job of setting the edge on run plays that came right at him. He played on STs. He also had one QB hit.
  •
  • Let’s talk QBs for a minute. Marcus Mariota was what we expected. He ran too much, but did make plays with his feet. His accuracy isn’t ideal, to put it mildly. He finished 4-29 as a runner and 7-11-58 as a passer. If he builds on that, fine. If he plays that way the next two weeks, it would make me a little nervous.
  •
  • Rookie Tanner McKee was terrific. The complaint everyone has had about him this summer is he’ll only throw short stuff.  I was very impressed with McKee. He was accurate and made good decisions. Throws had good velocity. The thing that stood out more than any other…pocket presence. He didn’t seem the least bit nervous. I would have him try to coach Mariota on how to settle down in the pocket. McKee has a major lead for the #3 spot. If he keeps playing well, you wonder if he could push Mariota.
  •
  • DL Marlon Tuipulotu and rookie Moro Ojomo both flashed. Tui is in his third year and is playing his best football. Ojomo caught my eye a few times. He has a good combination of strength and quickness. He drew a holding call that wiped out a TD run. Reserve NT Noah Elliss had a TFL. I’ve been curious to see him in action. He is a big, strong dude.
  •
  • I don’t have much to say about the LBs. The key guys didn’t play. I only saw Myles Jack for a few snaps. Shaun Bradley got hurt and maybe out for the year. UDFA Ben VanSumeren played a lot. He had 6 tackles. You can see his athleticism, but he is still raw.
  •
  • Sydney Brown led the team with 9 tackles. He played fast and physical. Love his tackling. He closes to the ball and wraps up. K’Von Wallace had 5 tackles and a FF. I thought he played well.
  •
  • CB Josh Jobe looked good in coverage. He did have one penalty.
  •
  • UDFA Eli Ricks was the star of the secondary. He also had another PBU.
  •
  • Kelee Ringo looked good in coverage. I thought he would be a project this year. Ringo was better than I anticipated. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to play, but good to see his talent coming through. Mekhi Garner was physical on STs an defense. Mario Goodrich had 3 tackles and a couple of PBUs.

Thoughts:

Game was fast for most of the rookies.  You could see a step late, that hesitation from thinking instead of seeing and doing.  None that couldn’t be corrected.  You could spot some of the deliberate feeds.  For example, running outside for Penn and Sermon.  That was as much to move the OL and to see their hole reading and taking what was available.  For Sermon, better than I expected in reading but just not any extra gear.  Some of those reserve OL just don’t block (or even stay on their feet) on the move. One of the reserve Johnsons IIRC. (Speaking of Johnsons.  It is just wrong that all Johnsons not Lane on the Eagles don’t have first initials on their jerseys).

Jobe and McPhearson are the top reserve CBs.  Ringo is a little stiff but the height and speed are evident. Goodrich passed Scott.  Liked the quickness of reaction by Ricks.  They should turn Garner into a LB.  He has the frame to add some weight. He is just a bit too slow as a DB IMHO.  I would cut Greedy Williams loose today so maybe he has a chance elsewhere.

Speaking of McPhearson.  He actually looks like a PR.  Ward doesn’t.

Saw some good and some bad with the Ss.  Mostly solid tackles.  Brown may be close to moving from the threes.  Hard to say more without the all 22, but positioning looked good.

Morrow was better than expected.  Bradley was struggling before he got hurt.  VanSumeren is interesting.  Just a step late on coverage and getting into the gap but seems to be a solid tackler and the speed is evident.  So, is that IQ or a speed of the game issue.  More promise there than expected.  Hard to evaluate Jacks or Cunningham from the limited play.   Ellis looked good except that missed tackle.

What riches at DT.  Quite a battle between Marlon T, Street and Ojomo.  Think yesterday goes to Marlon T.  Ellis is just a real big man.  No real technique and plays a bit out of control. Twice he pushed back the C and in essence blacked the whole right side of the Eagles on a play where the Ravens were running the opposite direction.

Could tell that Ward and Cleveland know the offense.  They played much crisper and quicker than the rookie WRs.  Where was Covey?  Ngata and Haselwood need to learn to box out better.  Looked more like JJAW than prime Jeffries.

Even though history shows year 3 is when most of these type of DTs start to break out?

Was at the game. I don’t go to too many games but being there it’s real tough to pay attention to who is standing out off the ball or in the trenches.

I thought the td Ringo gave up was a great pass.

Swift is our best talent at RB by far. Gainwell does not have close to the upside that he does and they’re supposed to have similar skill sets.

Sermon doesn’t look like he runs very hard.

McKee looked solid for a rookie late round pick. I think he’s a better passer than Mariota who was quite disappointing. Thought he’d look like a guy who can be a starter when called upon.

Those are the only details I really got.

He played 5 snaps. Carter played 2 snaps. The Ravens had a big run on the one play that Davis and Carter were in. It appeared to me that Davis was held on the play (not called).

I'm curious to see if Goodrich can make his way on the team. Assuming we keep 6 I don't see how he makes the cut but I think he has looked solid. Hopefully we can stash him on the PS

It was so bad.

Of the following WR players, how many are on your final 53-man roster ... and which ones?

Ward
Ngata
Cleveland
Haselwood
King

Also, that source was wrong. Brown had way more than 4 tackles. It was more like 8 or 9.

Im not sure we want Cox on run downs anymore.
