So if you think you can kick inside the 25 why not try that every time.

Teams might try, but I'd be curious to know the average starting field position after a squib because I'm not sure it's even worth it. Squibs sacrifice good field position for extra ticks off the clock or not putting the ball in the best returners hands.

Tryout but not expecting a signing.  Pretty much a bust.

He's got experience.  He'll probably Jason Peters them with any extended action (get hurt, not hold them ransom for a raise)...but if he's in shape, I bet they could do a lot worse throwing in a sub at RG in the event of injury.

A squib wouldn't work at all as a regular practice.  The return team would just put their "hands' guys at midfield and scoop everything up.

Some of those numbers probably look a lot different when you shave off 20 pounds.  Everyone commonly accepts Shawn Andrews as an OL unicorn and he'd have an abysmal RAS with some of the worst combine numbers you'll ever see from an OL.

I wonder if teams will try more squib kicks because it's hard to signal for a fair catch when you field them.

Interesting.  When the Eagles were struggling with blocking and who was returning, the strategy for some teams seemed to be kick to the two or three yard line and cover the return. That won’t work with this rule but a squib kick might. The downside to a squib kick is fail to cover it well and give up a return to the between the forties area.

Yeah, Fluker is clearly from a body composition standpoint in a much better position than he was coming out. 6404 with 36.5 inch arms at 315lbs is also very ideal as a bigger guard

He still looks like he doesn't move that well, but if he can get back to the same level of technical ability he had, he's going to be able to be a dependable guard in pass protection and can move the LOS forward. He just won't be pulling and getting players at the 2nd level

He had Warmack level success in the NFL.  Arguably not much better in his prime than Opeta.  Sure kick the tires but I just don’t expect much more.  Hard to make Tyrese Robinson look athletic but he did.

There's a real chance that the name 'Commanders' doesn't stick around very long.  I would not be surprised if they rebranded when they moved into a new stadium in a year or two.

If he "intends" to turn over the trademark without cost, why hasn't he already done that?  They team has been the "Commanders" for over a year now.  What's he waiting for, if not a check?  I'm sure the football team has the lawyers available to draft whatever paper work is needed in a heartbeat and get it signed to complete this transaction.  Are they having trouble locating a notary public?  🤷‍♂️

He's being looked at as a backup, I would assume.  Who is the swing backup OT right now?  Driscoll would be my guess.  But he's got a horrible track record of health himself.  We need a backup to the backup, desperately.  He's not being looked at as a starter.  And if Opeta was 'good enough' in an emergency, I could see Fluker being an acceptable option for Stoutland to work some magic with.  Best case scenario, Fluker never takes a single snap with the team.  Worse case scenario, one of Mailata or Johnson (or both) go down early in the season and that leaves Driscoll in the starting lineup, only to get injured a few weeks later.  Who on the roster currently has anywhere near the experience of Fluker?   And, unlike most others out there, Stoutland knows Fluker from their time together at UoA.

I think kicking the tires is a smart move, and I think signing him to a deal, even if it just ends up being on the PS, with the new rules... it's a smart move.  And at the very least, bringing him in to training camp might mean that there's more of a push on some of the young UDFAs on the roster to work hard to win a spot on the roster.  Or, maybe they think that Steen can fill that role for this year, if needed.  Then again, it's possible Steen wins the starting RG job.

If you have a kicker who can reliably place it between the G and C in the kick return formation, I think the question is whether the End or Upbacks can possibly field it before the 25.  If they have sort of a diamond formation where the Upback is essentially at the 30 and the Ends are at the 20, I think a ball between the hash and center would still likely get to the 25.   I think it would be something to use after you have film of them during the game.  It's probably not something to use every kickoff but you would want to look for the return team committing to a back pedal to soon or turning their head too soon.

He may have multiple trademarks that include the word Commanders.

I still want to see the kicker just blast an onside kick directly (as best he can) at someone and hope for a bobble or it to deflect off the guy one time.

I agree that as a regular practice it wouldn't work.  I do think it may be worth it to try in games. Also a hands guy lined up 10 yards from the ball is going to have a hard time with a squib that is kicked with high velocity.

Should it take longer than a year to get it all turned over to the team though (assuming that he's truly not looking for a payout of any kind)?

Imagine if the Eagles were to land him.  Position of need + top player at his position + an all-time Eagle legacy.

I'd be thrilled. BUT, he's a linebacker... Womp womp, womp....

I hope this is what happens.  Absolute trainwreck of a rebrand.  There are soooo many fan redesigns that incorporate everything from the Redskins uniforms an identity and merge them in to a new name like Red Wolves or something similar.

Even something as simple as this would be 1,000x better

r/Commanders - Fixing what’s broken: Washington Commanders I’m starting a new series showing how some of the NFL’s could be improved with minor tweaks if full re-designs and previous sets were off the table. Consistent striping, no gradients, new pants and socks, black removed, and yellow helmet…

I wonder how many people are aware of how good he actually his.  He's a baller.
