Boselli was pretty good too, just stuck on a bad team like Thomas. Due to the nature of the game changing so much in the modern era, the LT's in a more pass-heavy offense have to be graded on a curve as a result of being asked to do so much more than their predecessors. It's one case where recency bias is counterbalanced by the versatility of guys like JP, Thomas, Pace, etc

Can I ask how your thought process worked or this?

The 1996 AFCCG Jags were 9-7 in year 2 and upset the Broncos in the playoffs the year before they won back to back SBs

The 1997 Jags (11-5)  lost the playoff rematch with Elway, Davis, and the Broncos.

The 1998 Jags (11-5) won a playoff game.

The 1999 Jags (14-2) knocked Jimmy Johnson and Marino out of the NFL 62-7 (They were 15-0 vs the rest of the NFL and 0-3 vs the Titans)

The 2000 Jags (7-9) started to hit the cap crunch.

Boselli played 3 more games after that.

Yeah, it's been easy to dismiss the Jaguars over the past decade or so (minus 2017) but they were a top tier team for much of Tom Coughlin's reign. I remember being really disappointed when the Giants hired him because I knew he was a good coach who was foolishly fired.

Demtrieus Bell?

Probably giving Covey first team QB reps

Odd, I thought they had one good year after the AFCCG loss and then sucked for years after that.

2 QB lineup with Center option on who he snaps it to. Covey and Tyree Jackson are the QBs.

With Brunell, Smith and McCardell, they were solid.

That's a good list.   I was thinking of Ogden as #1.  I would likely put Munoz at #2, Peters at #3...

After that it gets trickier for me.  I didn't watch a lot of Walter Jones, so he's tough for me to rank.

Then #5 who is that?  Jackie Slater played forever.  How much does longevity count?  What about Art Shell?  Domination for a sustained period of time leading to a dynastic dominance for a team.  Shell, Upshaw, Otto and Brown anchored that Oakland offense.

Willie Roaf, Joe Thomas, etc. ... So many options for that #5 spot.

I think my list would go: Ogden, Munoz, Peters, Roaf and Thomas.  I could be persuaded otherwise.   And I'm sure I am missing someone.   Sadly, I really can't speak to Shell, Brown, Slater, Jones... and quite a few others as they were either before my time or weren't someone I could watch as much due to where/when they played.

Excellent post. Add Orlando Pace to that list.

I think Demetress was the "correct" one he changed it to.

Joe Thomas has to be somewhere in there no ?  Was first team all-pro like 5 or 6 times I believe

Probably the best technician ever to play the position.

Yeah, baby.  Rotation of Covey, Ward, Jackson.

Sadly there is one person here who would salivate over this formation.

They still sucked with them, but not as early as I remembered. Boselli also had a shorter career than I thought too.

Yes,  this.   Where is Greg Ward?  Is he in motion?  Are Covey and Jackson Tailback and Fullback like in the single wing,  Ward in motion,  gets under center, takes the snap, then snaps back to Covey or Jackson,  or does QB sneak, or maybe RPO to Mariota who is running a quick slant?

With Shane Steichen set to travel to Philly next week for the next joint practice, is anyone concerned today might be a trap practice? I'm sure Nick and the Eagles want to look impressive against the Colts to one up their old O-coordinator and prove they will be fine without him. Hopefully they focus on the task at hand which is the Cleveland Browns.

I would be more concerned about a trap practice if it was Gannon coming to town.

I read a recent article about him that mentioned that one time his foot slid a bit from INSIDE his shoe, and from then on he would tape his feet a certain way and spray some kind of adhesive on the bottoms so it would never happen again.   Crazy how particular he was.  Shame he played on such crap teams.

Like the sushi chef, Thomas was obsessed with details.

"He always wore the baggiest game pants," said Browns All-Pro left guard Joel Bitonio, who played four seasons next to Thomas. "Everybody in the locker room is like, 'What are you wearing? You have no swag.' And finally he told me, 'You ever look at a ninja? Are their clothes tight?' He thought tight pants constricted him. So he had a method to his madness."

That included spritzing the inside of his cleats with the pre-tape spray otherwise reserved for ankles.

"I was pulling to the left and had planted my foot and my foot slipped within my shoe," Thomas recalled. "I couldn't tie my shoes any tighter. The cleats didn't slip, so nobody would've noticed. But I felt my feet slip just a millimeter in my shoe and it caused me to be slow to react to a linebacker that was running underneath. I said, 'I'll never let that happen again.'"

Because of Thomas, both Bitonio and Browns All-Pro right guard Wyatt Teller -- who joined Cleveland two years after Thomas' retirement -- spray the inside of their cleats to this day.

"I don't know if it actually helps me or not," Bitonio said. "But I was like, 'All right, if Joe Thomas is doing it, I'm going to do it, too.'"

Couldn't load the site. Let's not do that again lol

Well that was weird, and inconvenient timing.

Not going to go back and look for tweets, but from what I saw:

*Eagles won the day, so no need to panic anymore. Back at .500 for the year.

*Dickerson was out. Opeta was in at LG.

*Reddick hurt his thumb and will miss some time but not expected to impact Week 1.

*Blakenship picked off Watson twice today. One was from a Cunningham tip. After the play Sydney Brown blocked someone too hard which led to a team scuffle.

*Barnett got into another after the play scuffle with a Brown's O-linemen. Penalty flags were thrown but not sure who it was on.

*Hurts threw a bunch of TD's to Smith in the RZ.

*Mariota had some big plays throwing to Cleveland (the player, not the Browns). Might have been Mariota's best practice so far.

*Jalen Carter put Bitonio on his back on a 11v11 rep.

*Jobe picked off the final play of practice off Dobbs. Corner fade.

I put Thomas in top 5 for sure.

Carter is gonna be a beast for years to come. My wallet hopes so. I have 5 autographed rookie cards of his.

Surprised Opeta got the 1st team reps. Would have thought Sills would be in there. After the starters, Steen and Driscoll, the last 2 OL spots seem to still be up for grabs.
