Mariota sucking doesn't mean anything about Ridder having success.

If you want to know why I am bullish on Bryce Harper's power returning, just look at Aaron Nola's fastball velocity.

Trying to figure it out. I am assuming he figured Ridder couldn’t be worse than mariota and believe that offense has to be better with Ridder having pitts, London, bijan and potentially a solid oline.

I watched a couple falcons games (don’t know why they happened to just be on the tv), the falcons should’ve went to Ridder way earlier last year. I think i actually posted in the blog around week 6 or 7 they weren’t going anywhere with mariota and he looked a lot like he did for the eagles in the first two preseason games when having to throw the ball more and more. I have no clue if Ridder is good but i much rather gave him the chance to show he could improve week to week rather than limit your offense cause of mariota’s inability to be a consistent passer at this stage of his career. I wasn’t as high on Kyle pitts as some on the blog but i definitely think last year mariota’s play limited their play calling and hindered his development.

How much money did that doofus Roseman guarantee him? $5m?

(Let me say this before i go into this he’s gonna be here. They won’t release him or trade him). If they were gonna do something would be nice if they could trade him somewhere as they actually clear some cap space. Again i don’t see the eagles doing that nor anyone trading for him. I wasn’t high on mariota after last year especially when he also left the team at the end of the year (used his baby being born and his knee but based off some reports he he wasn’t thrilled they decided to go with Ridder). I really have no trust if hurts missed a game or two that mariota is capable of running the offense they want to run cause i don’t think he’s a competent enough passer at this stage of his career. I think they’d have to do what Arthur smith and the falcons did on offense as it was basically ball control running game and limit his throws.

Too much Mariota piling on now, gonna have to become a Mariota stan to even things out.

Pretty strong? Come on man. This group is a mediocre as it gets. Even if Dean pans out the other spot will be a journeyman or nobody at this point.

The LBs look good.   VanSumeren looks good, especially for a udfa rookie.

Dean as great college player becomes great ILB with the green dot, pro bowler.  It's quite possible.  And, just, overall solid player,  there's a likelihood of that or better.

Myles Jack was good at one point.  His stats just last year seem pretty solid.

Was Kyzir White really that good?   VanSumeren looks good to me, he's doing well on special teams.
Last year,  the ILBs played approx 1.75 players per game.  TJ basically played every snap, or was intended to, Kyzir played about .75 of the snaps.

The Eagles have Dean, who forced a fumble tonight,  I'm going to put him down for as
good as Edwards or better.   And whoever is playing next to Dean, whether it's Myles Jack, Elliss, Cunningham, Morrow or even VanSumeren is more likely than not going to be better than Kyzir White.

LBs better than last year seems right to me.

They’re keeping Mariota and he’ll be adequate playing a bad team because he’ll run and have a better OL. And if he really sucks they’ll play McKee. They paid Chase Daniel more than this

It’s preseason, what’s the playbook been like ? Lol I know Mariota isn’t world class accurate but he’s above average mobility wise and once he becomes more acquainted to our system. Oh and if he can hear AJ trying to tell him 86 the play call instead of throwing a boneheaded INT in the red zone , im all for it. He’s our best backup since Foles and a great fit with what we do offensively, on paper atleast. Let’s hope we don’t see how his preparation translates in the regular season because that would mean tragedy has occurred.

Mariota was bad tonight. I'm still not all that concerned. That was not the offense we would see in a real game --- not just the players, but the play-calling. I doubt all our practices consist of preparing to win preseason games with vanilla plays. In a real game, surrounded by the talent we have that didn't play today, I have no doubt Mariota would settle down much sooner after a slow start.

There's not really anything I can say to make the fans disgusted with his play feel better. Only better play from him can accomplish that. They can always watch tape of Ian Book turning a 5 yard sack into a 23 yard sack, but I'm not sure that will help a whole lot.

IMO, McKee has taken advantage of his opportunities and earned a roster spot. Therefor, I'd like to see Mariota start preseason game 3 and play a half (again) and then obviously Book would get his last shot.

mariota is like wentz , has a arm but there is fog between the ears

At their best, Wentz was far superior

Just saying Mariota wasn’t very good last year with the Falcons when he had to throw the ball over 20 times. A dramatic drop off in how he looked and team success. The Falcons basically tailored their offense so that he didn’t have to throw it very often otherwise he got into trouble and the offense had issues which then exposed their defense (which wasn’t very good). Mariota started 13 games, he threw 20 passes or less in 5 of those 13. They were 4-1 in those games and a Qb rating of 100.9, 63% completion and 2.5 td to 1 td ratio. Games where he had to throw 23+ times his QB rating was  82.7 and falcons were 1-7, 60.8% completion and 1.3:1 td to int ratio. last regular season, hurts averaged 30.7 passes per game and didn’t have a single game where he threw it less than 25 times in a game

The losses were not all on mariota and game dictated him having to throw more, but there is a major difference if you have to rely on him throwing the ball more. Now the Eagles have a good enough oline and running game where they can tailor it and be that. but if you get into a game where you have to throw the ball it very well could be an issue.

if it was just vanilla preseason games where mariota hasn’t looked very good it’d be one thing. However in TC practices and last year he has had the same issues you are seeing in these preseason games.

he’s gonna be the backup QB. They aren’t gonna release him or trade him but watching him last year i think you have to be convert your offense to be more like what arthur smith and atlanta tried to do to on offense to be competitive and win games.

It's almost like most Eagles fans are way to obsessed with the backup QB position and don't realize that pretty much every NFL team is screwed if their starter gets hurt. Nah, can't be.

Will you stop with the VanSumeren crap. In two games 50% of the time it looks like the guy is playing touch football. Watch the tape. He gets there, yes, but then doesn't know how to engage and tackle. They let Taylor go. Enough with the freak athletes. Football is won by football players. He is not one. There is a Golds Gym somewhere looking for his grunting.

Wentz was an MVP candidate and regressed due to injury and inability to adapt to coaching. Mariota is a draft bust and a serviceable backup for a couple games.

Mariota looked like he was going to be at least a good starting Qb until he got hurt (fractured fibula) his second year in week 16. He had 26 tds and 9 ints that year and a 95.6 Qb rating. He still needed to Improve his accuracy but after that injury he was never the same.

Wentz never had the mentality to lead an NFL team.. Mariota in this offense is serviceable.  Hero-ball Wentz in any offense is a turnover machine and unchoachable. That's why he is done in the NFL and folks are still kicking the tires on Mariota

What an ugly game. However, Dean, Penney, and Brown are upgrades from last year's SB team. Penney is a sneaky "keep the sticks moving" runner.

Wentz was not a turnover machine before the injury.

Wentz in 2019 led that team as far as they can go before he was cheap-shotted out of the playoff game. I’m not defending his 2020 season that ultimately led to the end, but Wentz’s ceiling was much higher than Mariota’s. 2017 proves that.

Yes, I am an Eagles fan as well and watched the games. Foles won a SB with that team. Perhaps it was the team and not Wentz. Since then he has established himself as a cancer to a team. Mariota can't pass but he isn't a net negative like Wentz is.
