Wentz was not a turnover machine before the injury.

Wentz was always a turnover machine. It just took time for him to fully flower.

Got home about twenty minutes ago. Muggy night. Not gonna say much.

Guys who impressed me: Tanner McKee, Zach Cunningham, Christian Elliss, Marlon Tuipulotu.

At least Zentner looks like he can kick off okay. He doesn't particularly punt very well though.

Can't believe anyone would think VanSumeren is good.

No idea what happened with the injured guys. I'm assuming McPhearson's injury was a bad one but I dunno.

The fact that Wallace was running around with the scrubs in the fourth quarter kinda hints to me that the idea that he's really come on this year and is a potential big contributor is nonsense. But I think we already knew that.

Unfortunately I'm going to be up late.

Yes, I am an Eagles fan as well and watched the games. Foles won a SB with that team. Perhaps it was the team and not Wentz. Since then he has established himself as a cancer to a team. Mariota can't pass but he isn't a net negative like Wentz is.

1. They’re not in a position to win the Super Bowl with homefield advantage if Wentz didn’t have an MVP type season before going down in 2017.

2. He wasn’t a cancer, his play just went down the tubes in 2020, with Indy, and in Washington.

I really believe that Stefanski and Siriani treat the PS game like a practice and may even have certain things they want to challenge their teams with and may even agree to beforehand.  Last year, the mercilessly picked on Jobe.  This year, McPhearson, especially with speed.  They were also testing the Ss.  On a couple of plays towards McPhearson, the S was Edmunds and he was late.  Later in the game, it was Ricks but also on his side of the double Ss was Evans.  IMHO, McPhearson struggled with speed, but Edmunds and Evans were both late.  Made Tristan McCollum look like an All Pro when he finally got snaps.  Saw double teams on both Marlin T and Ojomo.  Tested Jackson and Robinson alone on islands especially setting the edge.  Both actually got better as the game went on.

Didn’t this team spend the last four weeks working on fundamentals?  They have more work to do.  The tackling was atrocious.  The line discipline on both sides was bad.

I did like the second chance approach with Sermon.  The coach chewed on ball protection and then leaders, including Hurts went over and reassured him.

Brady Russell and Noah Ellis are playing like they want to make the team. PS this year, but I like the enthusiasm.

Smith is fine. Cleveland and Ojomo had feeling/movement in extremities despite the scare. McPhearson seemed like the worst one at least long-term wise getting carted off.

2. He is a cancer and has been at every stop. Eagles, Colts and No-names. An injury didn't change his personality. He appears to have no self-awareness and is distorted about his ability. Hero ball, uncoachable dip$hit. It has been proven by his play and  record. Now he is a dog walking, duck killing, dude with no team that wants him around and he is more talented than most backups. So, why haven't teams signed him?

Edmunds and Evans were in for the fourth quarter too.  Basically of the Ss, Blakenship and Brown weren’t out in the 4th.  I think those are the starting Ss.

VanSumeren had the green dot most of the fourth quarter.  Thought he played a bit faster tonight. At least he makes tackles. Morrow must have had ant least four missed tackles in the game. Every ILB not Dean was in for snaps in the fourth.  Doesn’t mean I want VanSumeren on the 53, just an observation. Right now, if I were to guess, the starting ILBs are Dean and Cunningham.

Tend to agree with you on Blankenship and brown as starting safeties. i think they rather go brown over edmunds or Wallace if they were all pretty close (not saying they are just in general). let brown play, have his ups and downs and see if he improves week to week. and the experience will help him and the eagles long term. Especially as edmunds and Wallace  likely don’t have a long term future with the eagles.

Ojomo better make this team. He's legit good.

Choices, choices, choices!

Who do you keep Ojomo or Boston Scott?  Ojomo or Josh Andrews?  Ojomo or Dennis Kelly?  Ojomo or Sua Opeta?

What's the diagnosis on McPhearson? From the stands, watching him trying to walk off and being helped made me think Achilles. I had no idea who the other two guys were who were being carted off. It wasn't til about an hour later that one of the security guards told us that the first guy was Cleveland. And it wasn't until I got home that I learned it was Ojomo. I suppose they're going to eventually be okay.

He can go on IR now

The biggest takeaway from last night for me is that the Kelly Green jerseys have been the best selling alternate jerseys of all time. It's been 2 weeks? That's crazy.

Also, before he got injured, Ojomo was looking good. I like him more than Street. Tarron Jackson was all over the place too. Going to be some tough decisions getting down to the final roster.

Thinking more about it, the injury to Zech McPhearson might be one of those blessings in disguise. He's done next to nothing during his time here. Yes, limited opportunities, but he hasn't stood out when given the chance either. Mario Goodrich has looked better than him from what I can tell over the first 2 games. McPhearson can go on IR, Goodrich can take over his role and the young guys continue to battle it out. Still think they need to go heavy at CB but if McPhearson is out, it doesn't feel like they have to force him on to the team.

Trying to figure it out. I am assuming he figured Ridder couldn’t be worse than mariota and believe that offense has to be better with Ridder having pitts, London, bijan and potentially a solid oline.

I watched a couple falcons games (don’t know why they happened to just be on the tv), the falcons should’ve went to Ridder way earlier last year. I think i actually posted in the blog around week 6 or 7 they weren’t going anywhere with mariota and he looked a lot like he did for the eagles in the first two preseason games when having to throw the ball more and more. I have no clue if Ridder is good but i much rather gave him the chance to show he could improve week to week rather than limit your offense cause of mariota’s inability to be a consistent passer at this stage of his career. I wasn’t as high on Kyle pitts as some on the blog but i definitely think last year mariota’s play limited their play calling and hindered his development.

Agreed.  But Mariota sucking doesn't influence Ridder's progress.   He could just say that he's bullish on the Falcons because he thought Mariota held them back, like he did the Eagles offense last night.

It’s preseason, what’s the playbook been like ? Lol I know Mariota isn’t world class accurate but he’s above average mobility wise and once he becomes more acquainted to our system. Oh and if he can hear AJ trying to tell him 86 the play call instead of throwing a boneheaded INT in the red zone , im all for it. He’s our best backup since Foles and a great fit with what we do offensively, on paper atleast. Let’s hope we don’t see how his preparation translates in the regular season because that would mean tragedy has occurred.

The playbook doesn't mean a thing regarding how accurately he throws the ball.   Was the playbook expanded for McKee?  No.  And yet, McKee was able to throw accurately throughout the second half.

Mariota is better than Minshew?   Not so sure about that.  Mariota is better than Hurts?  (Hurts was the backup in 2020.).   Mariota could also just be cooked, but will stick around as long as a team is willing to pay him big money to stand around.

Wentz never had the mentality to lead an NFL team.. Mariota in this offense is serviceable.  Hero-ball Wentz in any offense is a turnover machine and unchoachable. That's why he is done in the NFL and folks are still kicking the tires on Mariota

Stop.   This revisionist history is just pathetic.  Watch what his teammates said about him when he was voted #3 in the Top 100 after the 2017 season.  Wentz never got back to the 2017 version of himself, but even in 2019, he carried a limp offense into the playoffs.  Then he got the crack to the back of the head, and it has all been downhill from there.  I think there's clearly some sort of brain impact on him due to that (and perhaps other hits) and its a sad tale.

Mariota was anything but 'serviceable' last night... or the first game for that matter.   His accuracy is horrid.  The difference was in week 1, he ran a bunch to cover up for his deficiency throwing the ball.  This week, they told him not to run, and the offense completely stagnated.  He'd have to improve a great deal to get back up to 'serviceable'.   He'll make the team, and he'll be the primary backup, but if we actually end up needing to rely on him...  it isn't going to be pretty.  The question will be how long a leash do they give him.

There is a lot of reading you can do regarding brain trauma and concussions.

Ojomo.   It's not even close.  Andrews... available on the free agent market until very recently.  He'd be easy to get through to the PS for callups as needed.  Same for Kelly.  No need for him to occupy a spot on the 53 with the new PS rules.  Opeta?  The guy is the 3rd best backup OG... at best.  (Driscoll and Steen are definitely higher than him.  Maybe Sills too, though he looked completely outmatched last night.). Opeta should also be able to make it through waivers to the PS.  And if he doesn't.  Oh well.  That's why they brought Kelly back.  He can play OG if needed and we are down to our 3rd/4th string OG.

Should I have my neurologist and speech pathologist enlighten them?  Lol

Side note, I didn’t catch any of the game. I’m here trying to deal with family stuff before I buy my ‘forever’ home.  How did the LB’s do…I caught the ‘highlight of Dean missing a tackle and the ball falling out.

I don't know what happened to Wentz, but it's just a sad situation all around. I thought for sure he was gonna be the dude for years to come after 2017. Really rare to see a QB prospect live up to the hype while being that young only to come crashing down so hard. Maybe seeing the team win it all without him broke him psychologically in a way that he never was able to recover from. We all rolled our eyes at that "anonymous" report that Alshon fed to Josina, but considering everything that's happened since then, I gotta imagine there was far more truth to it than most of us wanted to admit.

Dean forced that fumble, wouldn't say he missed the tackle. He looked timid at times but I think he'll be okay. Him and Elliss fared pretty well. Cunningham was decent too. Jack sat, and Morrow helped to blow up screen. Need to see them against decent opposition though, the browns backups were pretty bad.

so who is avail at QB?  If we go into the season with MM as the backup, he will cost us any game he has to start because of a Hurts injury....

what is the likelyhood Jalen Hurts stays healthy for 17 games............with his style of play?

Like McKee- but he isn't ready to be a backup QB yet on a SB contending team. (even though he is right now better than MM)

It is just horrible. And i can't find replays, only highlights. And now it seems the all22 isnt included anymore.

It worked ok today, ironically,. but I guess because no one is using DAZN on a Friday morning.  The UI is random as it keeps telling me I can't watch a PPV I didn't pay for.

As for the game. 1st half was terrible.  Mariota not good, the OL not good.  Just yuck.  The 2nd half play was better once a QB who can make a read came in.  Tarron Jackson is one of those half step from the QB defenders who will forever be arms stretched out but not making the tackle.

Was wondering if some of the injuries were the short window between last week and this, plus the joint practices

There aren't a lot of good backup QBs in the league. We got one that doesn't require us to change the offense. Mariota will be fine in a 2 game sample because of his legs. If it's longer, then well, we're screwed anyway without Jalen.
