There aren't a lot of good backup QBs in the league. We got one that doesn't require us to change the offense. Mariota will be fine in a 2 game sample because of his legs. If it's longer, then well, we're screwed anyway without Jalen.

There is nothing fine about MM. he is washed garbage. McKee would give you a better shot to win. We can win without the qb runs

Yeah I cant see MM being a viable option Tyler McKee out played him in both the preseason games. I am assuming this is also showing up on the practice field.

What happens if we need MM for a few games, do we just run the ball 46 times a game?

Their is nothing that Mariota has shown that indicates we would be fine with him.  I don't even think we'd be fine with him in a blowout upcoming in for garbage time unless they are running every down.  His passes are so inaccurate on a consistent basis that it's a major interception risk.

Dean forced that fumble, wouldn't say he missed the tackle. He looked timid at times but I think he'll be okay. Him and Elliss fared pretty well. Cunningham was decent too. Jack sat, and Morrow helped to blow up screen. Need to see them against decent opposition though, the browns backups were pretty bad.

¨Highlights are weird…he blew up the backfield.  I’d like to see on a GL play that you don’t go for that glancing blow though.

1. Like I wrote, I am also a fan and watch the games. Perhaps you need to entertain just how good that team was and that Wentz benefited from that.

Not sure you did watch the games because this revisionist history about how Wentz wasn't impacted in 2017 is nonsense.  Also your claim that he was always a turnover machine when prior to 2020 his ability to be smart with the his passes was a real strength of his.

The playbook doesn't mean a thing regarding how accurately he throws the ball.   Was the playbook expanded for McKee?  No.  And yet, McKee was able to throw accurately throughout the second half.

Mariota is better than Minshew?   Not so sure about that.  Mariota is better than Hurts?  (Hurts was the backup in 2020.).   Mariota could also just be cooked, but will stick around as long as a team is willing to pay him big money to stand around.

Honesty,  there isn't a point to keeping him if he looks that bad next week.

He won't be fine. The Eagles have a hard schedule against good defenses. They will stack the box and watch him throw picks. Get rid of him.

Cleveland blitzed Mariota.  McKee mainly saw a four man rush.  The second strings saw a lot of targeted attacks from both teams which goes back to my theory that Stefanski and Siriani have sort of a gentleman’s agreement coming out of the joint practices where they spend a lot of time together jawing.  They probably discuss certain things they would like to see not only in the practices but that rolls over into the game.  Works for both teams.

This year is the 3 QB rule right?  So we don't have to worry about losing McKee or cutting Mariota as one of those two won't count as part of the 53 on game day

It's not 53 GameDay.  They will still count against the 53 man roster.   It's the active for GameDay which is something like 4p plays that the 3rd QB won't count for.  But the 3rd QB only goes in when the backup can't.

The question will be how long a leash do they give him.

Based on McKee‘s play, I’d say 6 inches seems about right. 😆

That was the first preseason game I recall where the 2nd half was more entertaining. I feel we will run an RPO offense if Mariota has to play any meaningful snaps. His accuracy was pretty bad last night, but he did try to stay in the pocket more than last week. Mariota would probably be a better choice at coming into the middle of a game if Hurts gets injured, but think McKee could do better with a week of preparation to start a game if Hurts is out for an extended period of time.

Ojomo was looking good until the injury, hope all is good for him and he doesn't miss extended time.

Thought I saw Ojomo playing nose in the 2nd quarter a little bit.

I said it last week, but McPhearson would be a good candidate for the IR to try to stash one of the other CBs on the roster. Speaking of IR, doesn't the player need to be on the 53 man roster before they can be put on IR?

OL didn't play all that well, but its also good to see the backups get extended playing time.

How did Nolan Smith fall all the way to 30?!?! Looks like he will develop it to quite a nice pass rusher.

Liked what I saw from the LBs, but think they are very thin there and an injury to Dean or Elliss would be pretty bad.

Blankenship is obviously a starter, but has Brown shown enough to start over Edmunds/Wallace? Why was Wallace in there in the 4th? Too many injuries?

Speaking of Sydney Brown, while he had a quieter game, I think that was mostly because of better LB play. You really don't want your safety to be a leading tackler as it shows RB's getting beyond the 2nd level frequently.

I like how they are trying literally anybody and everybody at PR/KR. While I don't think the PR needs to be a better returner than Covey, I would like for them to actually be able to contribute at other positions. Thought Cain looked good as a returner, but he can't catch. It doesn't look good though. Maybe Ward has the best shot at taking over for Covey, but he lets the ball bounce too frequently.

McKee had, what, 4-5 dropped passes that hit the hands? Kid looked confident out there. Think we will get a heavy dose of him next week and then Book will close out the 4th quarter.

Trey Sermon, man. Hes good PS material, but wouldn't hold a spot for him on the 53 like they did last year.

Jalen Hurts getting killed on social media this morning for last night's game.

It's shtick. Some of these WRs are dumb, but not that dumb. See below for another example.

I remember a quote from Hurts - don't remember where or when - that he's going to try for fewer runs, more throws this year. Not being a statue but also not being as big a target. That would seem to make a back-up QB that can run for 700 yards/season less important.

It's almost like most Eagles fans are way to obsessed with the backup QB position and don't realize that pretty much every NFL team is screwed if their starter gets hurt. Nah, can't be.

Did we not win a Superbowl with a backup QB?

Mariota gotta go man

It's obviously early days but this draft class is looking really good so far. I mean, if you exclude Carter, Smith looks like a steal, Steen looks like a first round pick, Brown could easily start this year, Tanner McKee is vastly outplaying the #2 qb, and Ojomo (if he is okay) could easily see time as a reserve DT. Ringo is probably the worst of the bunch so far, and you can see that he has insane talent, it's just a matter of putting it together.

And then you add in the fact that Carter could be the best player in the draft class, it is somewhat insane how much talent we added.

His lack of ability throwing the ball means the offense will still change when he comes in.

What's the guaranteed money look like with Mariota?  He can't be the backup.  $5M or whatever he makes is too much.  He's a waste of a rosterslot.
