It's shtick. Some of these WRs are dumb, but not that dumb. See below for another example.

To answer a question that was asked recently, you can put a player on IR before the final cutdown, but if you do, he’s out for the year. You can’t bring him back unless you waive him. But if you put a player on IR after he’s made the final 53, he can be activated after a certain number of weeks.

So basically you can’t put McPhearson on IR before the season if you anticipate he would be able to contribute during the season.

I see no value to not putting him on IR immediately.  He's not the type of player that you sit around and hope he can comeback and contribute coming off a major injury like that.  The timing of his Achilles tear is way different from the one for Sydney Jones... and he wasn't able to return until the last two weeks or so of the season.  No reason to use a roster spot on cut down day to have the hope for McPhearson to return and expose another player to the waiver claim process.

I play for Caleb Williams!!!

Ok, so we’re now looking at rostering Josiah Scott as the backup nickel? Maybe Justin Evans can be a backup safety/nickel like in NO?

Thoughts about last night:

1. Mariota was just brutal again. There's basically no chance of us cutting him and taking a $5 million cap charge, but he really needs to start showing more. The passes sailing is just lazy footwork and fundamentals. Maybe he looks better with the 1s, but I pray we never find out.

2. Tanner McKee is making the 53; there's no way you can cut him and expose him to waivers. It's a lazy comparison, but I see some Foles in him. Tall, marginally athletic, decent arm, and willing to push the ball down the field and give guys a chance. Hopefully he's ready to be the backup next year.

3. Josh Sills -- what the hell was that? The whole 2nd team OL struggled, but Sills was just brutal. I'll never doubt Stoutland, but I wouldn't keep Sills on the 53 based on what we have seen. Maybe all the time away is the culprit, but I'd trust Opeta in a game way more than Sills at this point.

4. I really wish Trey Sermon had a spot on the roster, even with the fumble (great play by the defender punching it out). I don't get why Boston Scott is a made man, but he seems to have a roster spot locked up. Hope Sermon makes it to the PS.

5. With the injuries piling up at WR, Ngata has a real chance to make the 53. Watkins, Zaccheus and Covey are all small, and having one big receiver as a backup makes sense. With the injuries, chances are high we keep 6 WR coming out of the gate, and Ngata had done a great job catching the ball even in tight coverage.

6. The NFL really screwed up letting us get Nolan Smith at 30.

7. Feel terrible for Ojomo, as I thought he was looking very strong and would make the 53. If he goes to IR, it sucks that he could lose the season. Marlon is on the team for sure.

8. Dean and Ellis are on the 53, and the other 3 are fighting for spots. Cunningham played well, and he has always been a great run stuffer. Dean + Cunningham on run downs and Ellis on passing downs makes a lot of sense.

9. Our young CBs are sticky, have tight coverage, but they really need to work on their ball skills. Ringo haD great position and just never saw the ball (he should have picked it). Ricks got beat by a good back shoulder throw for the TD. With McPhearson out, either Ricks or Goodrich can be the 6th CB. Goodrich is more of a slot guy, but if they have been working Bradberry there, I think Ricks has more upside.

10. Justin Evans, get off my team.

Agree on everything, especially your comments about Sills. The safety was on him, just one of many really inept attempts at blocking.

It was interesting they gave Sermon KR duties in the game.  The coaching staff basically told him "show us why you deserve Boston Scott’s roster spot”

Sermon likely won’t make it through the league.  The Browns commentators were eyeing him up for their roster on the broadcast last night.

Yeah, it sucks. I'd keep him over Scott. Better chance Scott clears waivers, IMO.

Regarding your 5. Does keeping Jackson as the "big receiver” make any sense?

He's already a QB that had to learn TE. And really hasn't shown much. Not sure I want to have him out wide now. Ngata has shown a lot more and is a WR.

Goodrich has (by reports) looked really good in his limited action so I'm not too worried about it. McPherson was a solid ST contributor though.

so who is avail at QB?  If we go into the season with MM as the backup, he will cost us any game he has to start because of a Hurts injury....

what is the likelyhood Jalen Hurts stays healthy for 17 games............with his style of play?

Like McKee- but he isn't ready to be a backup QB yet on a SB contending team. (even though he is right now better than MM)

I'd read that Hurts is going to try to run less, throw more and be less likely to end up injured at the end of the regular season. I agree that McKee probably isn't ready to be QB2 this year. Perhaps the Eagles will keep McKee as the #3 and get him ready to replace Mariota next year. It's nice to have a rookie backup QB that looks like he belongs on an NFL field.

I do not

Return sooner for what? He'll be ready around April but he's going to make a hard push to be cleared by March!

I keep forgetting about Goodrich. Bradberry is probably just a the slot in certain matchups.

Mariota sucking doesn't mean anything about Ridder having success.

If you want to know why I am bullish on Bryce Harper's power returning, just look at Aaron Nola's fastball velocity.

Guarantee that's their main topic over the next week.

I'd sign Peters. He was actually decent with Dallas last season. Can play OT or OG.
