Canada maybe?

If he's lucky, it'll be Coventry he's sent to.  Don't wish Canada on anyone 😉

I remember a quote from Hurts - don't remember where or when - that he's going to try for fewer runs, more throws this year. Not being a statue but also not being as big a target. That would seem to make a back-up QB that can run for 700 yards/season less important.

Talk is cheap

Worked great with 6'6'' Kyle Pitts and and 6'4'' Drake London.

The Falcons started last season 4-4 with Mariota as the QB.
The Falcons scored 23 points or more 6 of those 8 games.
The Falcons beat the Niners with Mariota 28-14,  Mariota had a passer rating of over 140 in that game.

Those are the data points that I'm looking at.  The Falcons were ok with Mariota, Pitts, London.

Tyree Jackson is Kyle Pitts, or just another tall target in addition to Goedert.

Pitts and London = Goedert and Jackson.  The Eagles also have 2 star WRs that the Falcons don't have, and the 2nd most catches by the Falcons were made by OZ, now with the Eagles.

4-4 with the Falcons - Mariota
0-2 with the Eagles - Minshew

14-1 with the Eagles - Hurts

So, what you are saying is... ask him to do as little as possible... and everything will be fine.   Sounds like he could do that from the sideline and the team might benefit even more.

Mariota,  just like Jalen Hurts,  runs the ball himself, effectively.

The Eagles have the best OL in the NFL, and that includes run blocking.

Mariota had the 2nd fastest QB run in the NFL last year.

Running is easy.  If you're good at it.  Mariota is good at it,  McKee isn't.   When you're a really fast QB you can just dial up yards and first downs when you need them.

Not that many teams have running QBs,  but the Eagles are one of them.  They have a running QB starter and a running QB backup.

I mean I hear you but I wouldn’t call it hand wringing. I’d just rather see a developmental guy than a qb you know will not provide good play. My attitude with any backup is if you need them for:

1-2 games to secure home fielD or division- you need a developmental guy who can play.

3-4 games- same but I’d like more experience

5+ games-  in todays nfl you’re probably not going to be successful so give me the gunslinger like BDN who can surprise.

I just don’t see Mariota in any of those roles. I think if it were me I’d cut him loose.

Running QBs are best.

With a worse Falcons team,  Mariota started 4-4.   If Hurts gets hurt,  Mariota comes in, is fast, runs, has a great OL around him and what looks like a great defense.  Wins.  That's either one game or 10.

University of Alabama education at work.

A good look at the Carter/Davis combo, with added good looks at the lbs and ends.

Davis obviously doesn't have the technique of Carter, but he dominates with raw power. I thought Barnett looked good in his reps.

You can see how the Eagles are going to use the ilbs to blitz, and how hard it will be for olinemen to combo block our dts.

Really encouraging stuff. Nice to see them dominating backups.

Barnett isn't a bad player at all. He's just a DUMB player.

So Zech out for the season with a torn Achilles. Who takes his place? Ricks or Goodrich ?

Goodrich will likely clear waivers and can be put on the PS. Ricks is more likely to be claimed.

With larger PS that can have veterans, and gameday elevations, it’s more important to keep young players with upside on the 53 so they aren’t poached.

Goodrich is my guess, but his injury opens up the door for Ricks and Garner to make the team if they improve.

If you would have told me that Boston Scott and Reed Blankenship wouldn't play a single pre-season snap I wouldn't have believed it. I understand that Blankenship is locked in as a starter but shouldn't he at least get a series or two?

Boston Scott has done nothing to secure a spot on this team either but he was even a captain last night? He does good things but he should be anything but a lock. He should be in a battle for his roster spot. Sermon is out there doing everything he can. Scott should too.

How many games did you watch

Good point about the #4 overall pick = UDFA JAG

Not convinced of this and if McKee can distribute I’d roll with him. We need a competent passing attack more than a rushing qb

Scott was out there.  I don't remember seeing Gainwell at all.  I know Swift didn't play.

Gainwell was the safety. Everyone played except Swift

This is crazy, seemed like a good dude. And maybe he still is and just had a bad moment. Interested to see what comes of this.

Sounds like a really bad moment

the falcons beat the niners pretty handily last year.  Mariota had a passer rating over 140 that game,  2 TD passes ,  and the falcons ran 40 times and threw 14 times.  Those are the numbers that worked for Mariota last year.

and yet- he looked god awful so far in an Eagles uniform.

Cam Newton

but Mariota is good, if the passing is sub par,  crank the running to 10.

He beat the Niners last year with the Falcons.  Starters and everything,  regular season game.  Just last year.

none of that explains how he missed so many wide open WR's by over throwing them.....
