How many games did you watch

Good point about the #4 overall pick = UDFA JAG

I watched atlanta multiple times. Don’t ask why. For whatever reason they happened to be on tv at the bar more often then they should’ve

i brought this up last night.

mariota when he threw 20 or less passes the falcons went 4-1 where he had a 100.2 Qb rating and 2.5 to 1 td int ratio.

when mariota threw 23 or more passes, 82 Qb rating and they were 1-7 and a TD to int ratio of 1.3 to 1

Hurts averaged 31 passing attempts per game and in 17 regular season games never under 25. Mariota averaged 23. You can’t run the same offense just cause he can run.  the falcons weren’t good when he was forced to throw more and teams could force that issue. The eagles aren’t going to try winning games where mariota throws 13 and 14 passes like the falcons did with the weapons they have in the passing game and hurts showed last year to be able to beat you running and passing. Mariota can’t do that so the offense clearly changes. The falcons essentially ran a ball control offense when they won those games. He was not good when asked to throw the ball more.

One think I'd like would be to have Tyree Jackson with Mariota and Calceterra with McKee or Book or whoever.  I think that Mariota to Jackson would work because many of the Mariota problems are "Mariota is throwing too high".  Jackson is 6'7,  high would work.

I remember when we brought in Jeffery and all we heard about was his huge catch radius. That didn't stop Wentz from overthrowing him a lot early in the season. Jeffery wasn't a fix for Wentz' issues. When a QB is regularly overthrowing targets, it usually means he needs to settle down. Some guys just aren't fast starters. Wentz' accuracy usually improved in the 2nd quarter or 2nd half.

I believe right now Mariota is in a funk. He's in his own head, knowing he's playing poorly and trying to force things. In a regular season game, I think the coaches would call a strong dose of the ground game and try to settle him down with some easy throws. But in a preseason game, they are just testing him with some vanilla plays and not really adjusting the game to the circumstances. It was hard to watch. Yesterday was almost Tebow bad. I'm disappointed in Mariota, but I believe he can play much better. He's not Jalen Hurts. He's just a QB2 currently in the NFL. The Eagles need to get him some more preseason work to get him ready for his role. The longer Hurts can go without missing any games, the more time Mariota will have to get comfortable on his new team and the more time the coaches figure out how to best utilize his strengths.

This roster is absolutely LOADED at DL. Tarron Jackson and Janarius Robinson both played really well last night. Did one of them play their way on to the roster? Maybe they made themselves more attractive as a trade piece instead of waivers.

The Browns have some really good depth at safety. I wonder how many notes they took during practice and the game last night. Would be interesting to see the Eagles swap players with them.

Gainwell was the safety. Everyone played except Swift

That's right.  And that's why I don't remember that, I'd blocked it out.

none of that explains how he missed so many wide open WR's by over throwing them.....

Maybe he's gone blind...

Was unfortunate. Bar i went to always had them on and always on one of the main screens. Think one of the bartenders was a falcons fan.

I wasn't overly impressed with Smith in Game 1.  He had a few moments, but very few and you had to be looking for him. Last night, it was impossible to miss him.  Partly, because Ross Tucker was focusing on him and talking him up... but more so because he gave Tucker plenty to talk about.  He seems like the perfect edge for this team.  He's got a high motor, he literally flows everywhere.  He's got no give up in him and he has a desire to be on the field.  Teams miss on guys like him all the time... because he's missing one aspect or another that they are looking for.  In his case, I think his weight deterred a lot of teams from grabbing him early.  (And to another level, being surrounded by so much other talent could also work against him as well as teams think that he was a stat amasser due to the ball going away from others.).  But, he's 22 years old.  He's likely to add at least 10 more lbs, probably closer to 15-20... and won't sacrifice his speed with it.  So, now he's playing stand-up edge rusher at 250+.  Right where you want him.   And he's going to gain some more strength too, which will also help him.  But... the key is that the motor won't go anywhere.  And he seems to 'get it', whereas Barnett never did.  Barnett is a decent high energy guy, but with no brains.  Smith seems every bit to be a smart player and understands situations.   I look forward to him growing into a role this year behind Reddick.

I love Smith, but I doubt he gets much bigger (at least not without PEDs). Just look at his frame — he’s close to maxed out and his best attribute is speed.

If he spends all offseason lifting and eating, he can maybe put on 10 quality pounds in the offseason, 5 of which will be fat that he then has to cut.

He’ll be fine playing most of the season around 235.

Barnett isn't a bad player at all. He's just a DUMB player.

He also bad.

Tebow bad

Tebow won a playoff game.  He did it with a lot of solid QB running.

I was referring to Eagles' Tebow. I thought he might have been a good fit in Kelly's offense (as a backup) but he stunk up the field in preseason. Some people that like Tebow as a person claimed he wasn't really given a chance here --- I say watch those preseason games. The opportunity was there, he just didn't get it done. I like Tebow as a person, but he was given a fair shot here to win a roster spot.

There is certainly more than 1 way to win football games, but every win requires a team. Wentz won a Super Bowl, but wasn't in uniform.

He's listed at 238 right now.  I think adding 10 lbs should be achieveable without a loss of speed.  I believe he's got room to grow a bit and get stronger, he's still only 21.  His body will do a little more maturing in the next couple years.

Bad relative to his draft position anyway…I think that’s what it boils down to

Repeating this mantra won't make it true.   QBs MUST MUST MUST be able to throw the ball effectively to be able to have sustained success in the NFL.  Running adds an extra dimension, but a QB that can only run, but cannot pass will be easier to defend.

For reference, in case you forgot... Tebow did help the Broncos win one playoff game.  But they got blown out the next week, and he was traded by the Broncos that offseason for a bag of balls (essentially, considering the cost for acquiring QBs in the NFL).  He never started another game at QB again.  And only spent that one next season in the NFL, playing ST and some weird wildcat stuff with the Jets.   He was a former 1st round pick and he spent 3 years total in the NFL... after being one of the best running QBs in NCAA history.  Running QBs are NOT best.

The Falcons just had a 9 minute, 51 second drive and scored 0 points. The Falcons!

Midseason form.

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!  Like I've said all along, they need to keep Jake Cave in the lineup!

If he hits it solves a ton of issues. Their biggest issue with the lineup is the hole left by Rhys. Rhys hit with Risp (.292 last year) but he also was high up in amount of pitches per at bat in mlb which help work pitchers count and make mistakes to the hitters after him.

When Marsh returns, I think the plan might be to platoon Cave and Rojas.  BUT... I struggle with the idea of taking Rojas out of CF.  Rojas' defense is just ridiculous.  Rojas in CF, Marsh in RF, and move Castellanos to LF and you have the best (defensive) OF that this team has had in a while.  If Harper's back can't handle every day at 1B... that changes things, but if he can play 1B everyday, Rojas has earned his spot in CF.  Marsh can play either corner... so if they prefer to leave Castellanos in RF... so be it.

Just as I type that... Rojas does that.

He won that playoff game with a long bomb for a TD to begin overtime.
