Do you guys wanna know how to spot someone who only knows the NFL from playing fantasy football?

I don't know, I've never played fantasy football.

The list of QBs who throw for under 150 a game in year 2 as a starter and turn into good QBs is a very small list.

He threw for 2242 yards and got sacked for 359 for a net passing of 1883 in 15 starts. That's hot garbage.

SF would have been a much worse team last year with 15 starts of Justin Fields.

I would like to bring up Josh Sills for a moment. Even though he reportedly played terribly the other night (I watched the game from the stands and didn't get to see the television broadcast so I haven't seen as much footage of him stinking as most everyone else has), I still think he's pretty close to a lock to make the 53-man roster. By that I mean that I don't think the Eagles will risk exposing him to waivers like they would with guys like Dennis Kelly, Josh Andrews, or even Sua Opeta. After all, a year ago the Eagles signaled to the whole world that Sills was "Stoutland approved" when they surprisingly kept him on the 53-man roster on final cutdown ahead of about four or five other guys who were picked up and on other teams active rosters not long after that. And all season long they massaged the roster in such a way to always keep him on the 53. They never tried to play games by waiving him and hoping to quickly sign him to the practice squad. I'm sure they thought he would certainly get snagged and they would lose everything they had been working for the whole time.

I suspect the ordeal he has been through has left him somewhat rusty and out of shape. But I have to think that the Eagles believe in him enough that they'll think he'll work his way into it. And thus won't want to run the risk of waiving him.

My guess is they'll keep eight offensive linemen with Steen, Driscoll, and Sills being the three backups. And they'll they try to squeeze Opeta, Andrews, and Kelly back onto the practice squad. And probably one other guy who's impressed them enough. Not sure who that would be. There's a chance one (or more) of those three (Opeta, Andrews, Kelly) will get claimed, I suppose, but there's a risk that every team is going to have to take. Every team has their own versions of players like that -- guys who they want to bring back to their PS and will cross their fingers and hope they make it through.

As I have said before, I think the Eagles are going to go heavy on DL and DB this season at final cutdown and will adjust the roster accordingly as the season progresses. But for now, those are the two positions where they seem to have numbers. And as a result, they'll probably have to go light in a few spots. I think those light spots will be OL and WR. And I still believe they'll waive Siposs and then quickly sign him to the practice squad and activate him from there the first three weeks of the season. In fact, I would bet on that happening. He's not nearly as bad as fans are thinking. The craptastic punting we saw at the end of last season was primarily Brett Kern. Siposs had one freaking bad punt that no one would even remember if the coverage unit (looking at Zach Pascal) hadn't gone brain dead on.

More hot takes from Twitter/X. Maybe wait until Fields does something noteworthy before saying something like this? The more we move along in the social media era, the more these accounts care about meaningless stats and highlight plays rather than results. It's going to be at another level this year with all the Bryce Young fanboys added to the mix.

I really can't take someone seriously when they write "could of" instead of "could have". It's a first sign of ignorance.

Scott was out there.  I don't remember seeing Gainwell at all.  I know Swift didn't play.

3 snaps for Scott and 8 for Gainwell … out of 63 total Offensive snaps.

Cole was a lot bigger naturally. Look at pictures of their shoulders — Trent is significantly wider. Also, I remember something weird about Trent Cole not being able to eat much in college, but my memory is fuzzy on the details so could be wrong on that.

I think Smith will play in the 230-235 range. That’s fine — he’s a pass rushing LB and won’t be expected to anchor on the LOS. He’s not going to win by overpowering OTs — he’s a speed guy.

Sure and 10 more pounds couldn't hurt.

Punting absolutely blows. Sign Araiza FFS

Seriously. He's actually a substantial piece that would improve overall worst-case field position of our defense - he'd likely get a lot of rest unless he shares kickoffs but when he doesn't, his ability to precisely kick direction means that we'd likely have them backed up a lot. And that means we could really tee off on them. Really good for us.

Thank you for the thoughtful and perceptive comment.  The knee-jerk reactions in here never cease to amaze me.

I too have 8 O-linemen on my roster projection.  I would like to see them quietly add Araiza to the Practice Squad in September.

$600K wasted on Greedy.

Don't agree. Williams was a vet with three years experience and 21 starts. He wasn't some UDFA looking for a shot who would come for peanuts. Plus, $600K is close to peanuts nothing.

What it does tell you me is that the Eagles liked their young guys more. That's a good thing. Greedy couldn't beat out Jobe or Ringo or Johnson or Ricks or maybe Goodrich and obviously not Slay or Bradberry or Maddox. The Eagles are loaded at CB. Greedy will be playing for somebody this year, just not the Eagles and cutting him now gives him a better chance to sign with someone else. If and when he does, the Eagles will only be stuck with the difference between what his next team pays him and $600K. Since he's a three-year vet, he'll probably not get signed until after the first game.

Further, paying a vet to come in pays dividends down the line as other vets will be more amenable to coming here. We did it last year with Suh and Joseph.

Question to the Blog … does Kyron Johnson’s appendectomy qualify him for NFI roster designation?

You may be right about Sills. I went back and watched the safety several times and came way less sure that the fault all lay with Sills. He and the RT doubled one of the DTs. The C and LG doubled the other. The ILB blitzed between them and came free. Sills saw him and tried but couldn't get to him. Whether he blew an assignment or whether the C made a bad call on the blocking scheme I have no way of knowing.

I wasn't impressed with him at any point but the game was such dreck and Mariota was so skittish that maybe he gets a mulligan. If Stoutland keeps him that would probably confirm that.

If Araiza is so good, why is he available? I understand the allegations still surround him, and that people love his big leg. How’s his hang time and accuracy? Kind of strange Buffalo didn’t bring him back.

Marquette King looked really good in the XFL. I'd be more than happy if they brought him in.

No, he’s already practiced

My biggest question as well. Jets brought him in and worked him out and even they weren’t that impressed. The same Jets team that’s signed everyone this year.

Seriously? He hasn’t played in the NFL since 2018.

3 thoughts on Fields/Hurts.

1. Fields threw for like 150 yards per game last season. In year 2, Hurts threw for about 210 with no AJ Brown and rookie Devonta Smith. Hurts looked hopeless in the playoffs against a really good TB defense; Fields looked hopeless as a passer most of the year.

2. Loading up at WR is obviously a great way to help a young QB. Burrow and Hurts both shot to the moon when they got an elite group. Herbert started with a really good one. It's not an indictment on these guys that their GMs made good decisions.

3. I don't need my QB to make "wow" throws, although Jones is completely wrong about Hurts not making any. Give me the QB who consistently hits his WRs in stride than the guy who can throw it on a rope 50 yards in between 3 defenders a couple times per season. Might not be a more overrated trait in the league than QBs making "wow" throws.

If Araiza was as good as his reputation, he would have been the first punter picked last year and not the third. The way people talked him up, you’d have thought he was this generation’s Ray Guy. The knock on him the entire time was that he had a big leg but would line drive his punts. That’s what I saw when the curiosity hit me prior onto the draft to check him out, and that was reportedly what he showed in Buffalo. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be an upgrade (he very well may be) but I find it annoying how he’s been anointed as some super punting prospect when he really hasn’t demonstrated that.

I believe King has a reputation as a poor holder, which is probably why he’s been out of the league for a while now. That’s something I picked up along the way (for some reason I watch punting videos way more than I probably should).
