Tough one. Quick and Carter I guess despite the obvious caveats. They were both HOF caliber players.

Agreed.  Sadly, we never really got to see them together at their best.

I am. I believe very strongly in not punishing those who've not been criminally charged and convicted of criminal acts. Especially when there is next to no evidence that I'm aware of that he's done anything wrong. He's been tarred and feathered and I've not seen any evidence anywhere that he's done anything wrong. This bothers me a lot.

I think as a society we are bloodthirsty to make people pay whenever there is a mere utterance that they have done something wrong. And if and when said accused individual is exonerated, usually nobody cares. Nobody apologizes or feels bad. They kinda shrug their shoulders and move on with their lives. But the ones who've had their lived Fed up don't get the damage done erased.

This is a general principle I will stand by. And I'll do it again if the same thing happens to another player who is never criminally charged with anything and there is no evidence of wrongdoing.

It just happened the other day with Michael Oher. He makes an unsubstantiated claim, it spreads like wildfire, and you have the entire internet calling his adopted family scumbag frauds when Michael Oher didn't prove an ounce of what he alleged. Then the family came out and denied the allegations. Now, I don't know whether or not Michael Oher is lying or telling the truth, but I don't like seeing people piled on and eviscerated just based on mere allegations. I think it's wrong. A major pet peeve of mine.

He is not entitled to an nfl job

Here's what his lawyer said

"Mr. Araiza remains unemployed. There are football teams that want him. They will not have a try out until (the plaintiff) voluntarily dismiss(es) this case or he gets a verdict in this courtroom,” Araiza attorney Dick Semerdjian said Friday during a hearing in Braner’s downtown San Diego courtroom.

https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/courts/story/2023-08-04/attorneys-for-punter-araiza-press-for-quick-trial-date-in-civil-case-alleging-rape

So it's not him, it's the teams that are waiting for this to be settled. Either way I don't expect to see him signed before this is out of the way.

Also smart, he is unemployed and poor....if he signs an NFL contract for a couple million...well......

For our team I think it’s absolutely worth the risk. We want to maximize our chances of winning the Super Bowl. An all-pro level punter would be worth 5% of your wins in an undefeated Super Bowl season. Each regulars season loss makes his share of wins greater.

Using a thought experiment, imagine a reasonably likely scenario of Hurts missing 3 games due to injury. Mariota is the starter, so we go with a run based offense, ball control, etc. In this scenario, a top 5 type punter is likely to be the difference in one game. And that one game is likely to be the difference in us having HFA or not. And HFA is likely the difference between going back to the Super Bowl.

And who is this all-pro punter we are going to bring in off the street?  You aren't suggesting that it would be Araiza?   And... again, that is looking at it under the absolute BEST CASE scenario.  They said, AT MOST, and you are running with this hypothetical as if it were gospel truth.  The mathematics might suggest that, but as we all know, sports don't follow the hard and fast rules of math.

In your scenario, I'd much rather go with a different fictitious QB as the backup as to this fictitious punter.   Also, I think the odds would be more in favor of getting a punter that is a better holder to being the difference in that one game.

Except VanSumeren wasn't drafted to play RB...

Now if he was ,then I'd say why the heck are the eagles drafting a FB???

And before you go onto say well he has better measurables than a RB that was drafted remember that a college team first saw him as a FB not a RB then another college team saw him as a LB not a RB and then he was signed as a LB not a RB

I know you get all slobbery over your freakbeasts thing but just because Vansumeren has better athletic testing numbers than a RB Doesn't mean he can or should Play RB

Having said that we'll see if he even makes the team

I like the kid gonna be a number crunch at LB we'll see

I imagine they'll cut him and chance they can get him back on the PS.

VanSumeren wasn't drafted at all.  He was a udfa.

Was VanSumeren drafted to play special teams?  Maybe but I don't think so.

VanSumeren really doesn't have a clear path to snaps on defense this year.

Dean with the green dot is expected to play every snap.

There is debate about the other LB spot.   Cunningham and Elliss seem right now to be the most likely of all the ILBs to get snaps.   Jack is now gone.

Last year,  the Eagles had a lot of LBs who didn't really play defense all that much.  Some played no defense.   They played special teams last year.  These players played special teams a lot and LB not much.   Dean, Elliss, Bradley, K Johnson, P Johnson.   Elliss, K Johnson and P Johnson might all be back, playing mostly special teams.  The Eagles don't have starters with the green dot who play all the time also play a lot on special teams.  So, that's one special teams spot that needs filled.   Bradley is hurt.  That's 2 special teams spots that need filled.   Is K Johnson making the team before VanSumeren?  I don't know.  I don't remember seeing him out there all that much.  P Johnson appears to be doing well, so I'd say it's more likely he makes the 53.  I see 2 or 3 ILBs that need to be brought in to play special teams.  VanSumeren has done well at special teams.  So I think he get it.

If VanSumeren were just too tired and worn out from playing too much defense on top of the special teams snaps,  he wouldn't have the time and energy to play Fullback - or WR or TE or RB or Versatile Back or whatever you call the position that doesn't really have a star who is starting.   But I see Elliss ahead of VanSumeren for ILB snaps.

I'm guessing that VanSumeren was brought in as a udfa because my recommendation that VanSumeren be brought in as a udfa was so persuasive.   Most players in college were not playing offense for 2 years and then defense for 3 years, and special teams all along.   VanSumeren is extremely Versatile.  As in Versatile Freakbeast.  VanSumeren is both Versatile and Freakbeast.   VanSumeren can play on offense - blocking, catching, running and throwing, and ILB,  in addition to special teams,  as long as he's not otherwise too busy.

Not just VanSumeren, but there are a lot of players who could play offense who aren't doing much on defense.  The Eagles ran a 4-2-5 last year.  2 DTs,  1 DE,  1 OLB.  And this year it looks like the Eagles are going to keep roughly 12 for those 4 spots.   That's a lot,  1st 2nd and 3rd string for all 4 spots.  The defense looks like it's going to be more defense than offense.  I'm saying hey, if the defense is going to take more players than the offense,  how about if the defense lets the offense use the extra players that they aren't using very much.  Additionally, those DLs really don't play special teams all that much.  You don't want Davis and Cox running down field trying to tackle a Punt or Kick returner.   Last year, it was CB, S, and LB who took the most special teams snaps.

I'm not saying that the Eagles are going to have a lot of players play a few snaps on offense, waiting until they become too busy playing defense to continue to play a little bit of offense.  I have a lot of players, on defense, who could play that TE2 position,   which in my view is a starting position.  But I'm not saying that will happen.   WR1,  WR2 - Brown and Smith,  backups Quez and OZ.   TE1 Goedert, TE1 backup Stoll.  TE2 another starting position,  Tyree Jackson,  and a whole lot of the versatile freakbeasts playing a few snaps here and there, depending on the situation.

I got 11 of those versatile freakbeasts who are playing the versatile back position, or the unnecessary back position.  I use unnecessary because someone explained to me that Quez had an essential role as a decoy.  If all Quez does is decoy stuff,  my versatile freakbeasts can do more than that.

He is not, but the only reason he currently doesn't have a job is because of these accusations. I don't know what you do for a living, but if you lost your job because someone without any evidence accused you of something heinous, you'd be pretty pissed off and rightfully so. And if someone said to you "Well, you aren't entitled to this job" I don't think you'd respond kindly to it.

I think it sucks that people with no evidence can just accuse people of things and derail their lives and careers.

I’m thinking he likely downgrades. Siposs probably keeps 10 and the only one I see opening up from 1 through 19 is Ian Books 19

The suit would have been tossed already if there  wasnt evidence. You argument is built on an inaccurate assumption or misrepresentation
