I’m thinking he likely downgrades. Siposs probably keeps 10 and the only one I see opening up from 1 through 19 is Ian Books 19

Really went out on a limb thinking that one will free up.

But... 19 is a legendary number for QBs.  Johnny Unitas... Joe Montana in KC...

10 is a camp body number for us, he’ll probably get a real one once he makes the team

10 has not been a camp body number for the Eagles

Not sure if anyone saw the play last night where Bolden got hit and then didn't move and was put on a stretcher but he's been released and is doing OK. They ended up cancelling the game because of this. Are we looking at an NFL that goes too far the other way now and starts cancelling/postponing games because of injuries? Glad he's OK and I'm sure the NFL is in serious CYA mode after the Damar Hamlin thing but injuries are going to happen. The game goes on.

Tough one. Quick and Carter I guess despite the obvious caveats. They were both HOF caliber players.

I mean yeah but Carter wasn't a HOF caliber player while with the eagles

He was very average, even his first couple seasons in Minny were just meh.

He put all his best numbers that got him in the hall while in Minny.

And while Carter and quick were together they were just meh

Carter was young still figuring out the game, still drinking a lot and quick was coming off a major injury and a shell of his former all pro self.

It's too bad though that they couldn't have played together in their peaks, that would have been pretty scary for defenses

Seems like a knee jerk reaction to cancel the game. Wonder if they would have done the same if it was regular season?

I don't think so.  NFL teams seem to be looking for excuses to cancel preseason games.

I tried explaining that when Hurts was drafted, and took a lot of flak around here. What impressed me with Hurts was that he went to Oklahoma and put up similar numbers, without time to learn the system, as the two previous QBs, both who went #1. He didn't have their arm/speed combo they did (Mayfield and Murray), but they also had a couple years in the system whereas Hurts was starting from scratch. Told me he had "it." Now at the time he was drafted, I saw him as a great backup to a starter made of glass, with starter upside - I thought his upside was top 10 if he continued to improve, and he had the intangibles that made that improvement a good bet. He's exceeded even my most optimistic expectations.

Fans tend to underrate intangibles, but I think they're key to players outside the top of the draft in any sport (those so talented they often succeed in spite of themselves).

Think about Dawkins (2nd rd), Peters (UDFA), Malaita (UDFA), Blankenship (UDFA) and so on.

Then think about the guys who flop like Watkins, Reagor, M Smith, et al.

If I'm drafting, I'm taking everyone off the board who lacks work ethic and motor, conversely I'm targeting guys with off the charts intangibles (work ethic and football IQ the most important) a little higher than their talent would suggest (but don't go crazy, players still need athleticism to succeed). Immature players can grow up, but players who lack competitiveness and love of the game won't take the extra steps needed to succeed. And you can only coach up "dumb" players so far.

Sounds like fairy tale, wishful thinking.  I think Carter and Ringo both have question marks about those intangibles.  Guess Howie should have passed on both.

I think it's a fine line and intangibles aren't something tangible thus the name.😉

Look at Ty Detmer for instance, great intangibles, but those intangibles weren't enough to overcome his lack of ideal physical traits.

Been lots of guys throughout history of NFL who might not have ideal physical traits but their intangibles over came those while in the flip side there's been plenty of guys who had all the physical tools, traits, measurables in the universe but don't make it for whatever reason.

It's a crap shoot and Im glad the eagles hit on hurts.

🤦‍♂️.  Horrific first inning.

Ok nobody talk about the Phillies. Thanks.

He’s literally the only one in that span that will get cut or isn’t retired already

You can also draft guys with huge college pedigree and high intangibles but come with risk, such as Landon Dickerson and DeVonta Smith.  Dickerson came with a pronounced injury history and Smith is very thin.

Where most NFL teams are defaulting to currently is toward the "love/live football” dynamic.  Teams are taking chances on guys based on their prioritization of the game, above all else in their lives

Couldn’t start on the Texans. This is pure rationalizing.

He had 107 and 142 tackles on back to back 11-5 and 10-6 playoff teams teams. I watched his entire career in Houston.

He got paid a ton and got injured. He could play and did play but the NFL is a rough business.

He was fine in Tennessee too, just hurt a bunch. He's not Fred Warner and he's not a race down the field with a slot receiver type but he's a solid LB.

Be careful about deciding player worth based on terrible teams trading or cutting pricey veterans.

Wheeler has been atrocious vs. the nationals this year. Surprised they moved him up to face them considering how bad he’s been. This year vs. the nationals he’s thrown 15.2 IP, 18ERs and a 10.34 ERA. Vs. every other team he’s 44 ERS IN 129.1 IP and 3.06 ERA

Up in Saskatchewan and watching some CFL right now.  This LB Brunson just laid an amazing hit on punt coverage.  Eagles should look into him.

Very true, but it's just one more reason not to allow anybody and everybody to wear single digit numbers.

They wanted to get him back on his rhythm of pitching days rather than spreading him out too.

If Suarez didn’t get hurt, they are still likely going 6 man rotation. Frankly knowing how bad wheeler has been vs. the nationals this year and a big 3 game series vs. giants, rather have had him out there for that series/game.

Can we stop the nonsense in sports?   Interviewing guys WHILE they are playing?   What does this bring to the game?

I hear you, but Wheeler mentioned the schedule and not liking it.  Thomson is a player's manager, so he did what he thought would make the player happiest.

The issue with that is they go off analytics for almost everything. The reason why cave is playing today is because of analytics. The lineups they come out with routinely are based off what the analytics tell them too. Their philosophy as a organization is huge analytics. Thomson can say he’s appeasing players but there’s been other times where he should’ve done this along the way and hasn’t due to analytics.

The Giants series is massive to the Phillies in terms of top WC. And you don’t have your best pitcher which you could’ve had for at least one of those games. While knowing Wheeler has been bad against the nationals.

What someone did, or who they were 4 years ago doesn’t mean a thing today in the NFL if they haven’t been the same since. He could be a decent stop gap if he finds some of that talent again but he’s nothing to write home about.

He was the same last year before he was hurt. He looks good right now.

No LB on this team has been special since about Trotter.

He also had great numbers in 2020 but the D was bad so its hard to know what high tackle totals mean on a bad D  (same with Morrow last year)

He had 93 tackles in 14 games in 2021 which was not 4 years ago.
