Gotta dream a little bigger. We could get Minshew in the package as well

So we can cut him again out of spite for ruining Christmas Eve?

Eagles aren't trading high draft capital and signing a RB to a big contract.  That's completely counter to what Howie does.  That doesn't even take into consideration that he's coming off a down injured season

I would be in favor of getting Taylor.

Sure, Howie never does that, and I generally think the roster is fine,  I want my bubble players to make the 53, but I don't think there is a great need.

But he's an upgrade at RB.   And not only is he an upgrade,  he's the kind of upgrade I like.  High Ras,  big - 226, which would make him the biggest back on the Eagles, and fast - 4.39.

Taylor v VanSumeren Ras as RB.  Taylor's Ras almost as good as VanSumeren,  impressive

Remember when Howie traded a 3rd Tate and let him walk as a free agent in the offseason? In a year when the team was not a contender?

This year the team is a contender. This player is far better than Tate. The contract will fit under this years cap. The pick will be higher than a 3rd but the pick surplus is available. If they think Taylor Swift can lead them to a super bowl...

Lots of connections between Indy and Philly._My forensics research tells me that the eagles are being mentioned to help activate the market and maximize the return for their pals in Indy.

Sounds plausible.  Sirianni has pull.

You want the guy who went 0-2 back?

Maybe Howie called Steichen and said you can count us as a team that talked to you about Taylor because I just said Taylor twice.

I honestly think Kenny Gainwell, the Saints 2nd are a good starting point if this were to happen.

You have to look at Quez Watkins and Milton Williams as potential trade chips. Watkins isn't coming back next year and his speed plus Richardson's arm strength could be a serious weapon. Williams might sound far-fetched but you have to look at Davis, Williams and Carter who will all need new contracts around the same time frame. Ojomo, Street and Tuipulotu make Williams easier to trade. I think Milton Williams is in for a big year but the Eagles have tremendous depth at DT.

Shane should be happy with the opportunity to get players he liked last year.  I don't think we're trying to sell Shane what we're trying to sell.  Shane may pick a player, and place an inflated value on him due to him knowing and liking him.  Trading with the Colts, the Eagles might not have to give up as much value in the form of picks because Shane knows the players.

If the Eagles are getting Taylor, Shane can have Gainwell And Boston Scott And Calcaterra And Quez Watkins And Driscoll.  I don't think the Colts need any picks after that at all.  That's 5 players who Shane coached just last year.

No shot this is legit.  Makes no sense for the Eagles.  We're fine there.

Fine is short of excellent.

I agree that there is no real need for improvement.

But adding Taylor would be improvement.

I'm good with this, but I'm good with this not happening.

Anyone can "report” Eagles are interested in a trade because they probably at least make a call on all players available just to check in.

Can’t remember the last time Eagles were linked to a big name that they traded for. They have indeed come out of left field with many of their bigger moves recent years.

Bradberry and Slay both were linked to us and actually came and helped us a lot.

Doesn‘t feel like a priority this time around but if the price is right..

Makes zero sense to me. I would rather trade for a LB/S…maybe even DE for when Graham leaves next year.

It should make more sense than that.   Jonathan Taylor is definitely better than any rb the Eagles have right now, and adding Taylor is a definite upgrade.

There isn't any greater need than RB.  Not clear there are any needs at all,  I'm in favor if they can do this, but if not, again,  I don't think there are any real needs.

There are plenty of people on this message board who say things, want things that are wrong, and I argue with them about that.

I have a much higher agreement rate with the Eagles.

Jonathan Taylor signs a shorter term prove it / win a Super Bowl deal under the new reduced expectations dollar values of rbs.

We don’t need Taylor, we have VanSumeren. Duh.

This trade isn’t going to happen…

BUT, hypothetically speaking, we aren’t giving up Quez or Williams.

If we make a trade for Taylor, it’s because we are going all in for a Super Bowl. And if that’s the case, we aren’t giving up our #3 WR or a solid rotational DT.

We’d be giving up draft picks and maybe someone like Penny or Sermon who wouldn’t make the roster anyway. We wouldn’t deplete our depth at key positions.

There will be a WR cut by someone whenever cuts are that I'd rather have than Quez Watkins.  I don't think Quez is bad, but he could go, and I'd like to see him get fewer snaps,  I'd rather see more TE2 than WR3 out there.

It's not a bad idea to upgrade a position where you don't have a star with a star.  Sometimes the specifics don't work,  but in general, you'd want a star there.   I could argue that the Eagles could use a big back, and Taylor is 226, bigger than any Eagle.

The Eagles have so many good players.  Sometimes you think,  hey it's good enough already, save money for later.  But Howie seems to want to continue to upgrade, even if you think the money shouldn't be there for that.

That's exactly the right way to think,  but there is little evidence the Eagles look at it that way.

We'll be pounding the table for VanSumeren or Nolan Smith as a power back when the Eagles don't have one except for Jalen.

Taylor is a proven NFL star running back.  And he's the right kind for the Eagles.  226 is big for a running back and 4.39 is fast for a running back.  Many carries on the fastest runs nextgen stats for Taylor.  I'd also like Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry, and Fournette to a lesser degree.  There isn't a need for the Eagles to do anything,  but, still, no big back.

Yeah, why don't the Eagles have all-pros at every position?

I don't think Howie is looking to invest much in 4th/5th receiving option. Quez has a specific role, and it seems the coaching staff likes the improvements he has made or we would have seen more of him in preseason. Plus you have Zaccheaus, who is more shifty and will play a more traditional slot role.

AR would never say we’re "excellent” there.  And rb isn’t a position you need to be "excellent” at.

There is no position you need to be excellent at.

It's just better if you are excellent.

I don't want to be arguing for or against this.

But Taylor is better than any running back the Eagles currently have and the Eagles running game would be improved from one level of great to a higher level of great.

And it would be good for the Eagles to have an actual better, or at least comparable, big running back, that is not Jalen.  Don't have a problem really with Jalen doing the power running,  especially when it's not clear the other options are as good.  But I think it would be good if there was as good as possible alternative choice to Jalen.   I think Nolan Smith and VanSumeren,  and probably a number of others, could do the job, but the running backs, again, tend to be small.   The Eagles easily could retrain/remind those 2 of how to do running back or fullback.  The Eagles really don't have a lot of snaps for those 2, but the position of short yardage back is Jalens, I guess, he's good at it,  but the backup power runner position could be upgraded.  By these guys,  by Jonathan Taylor.

Howie brings in all pros when you don't think any change is necessary.   You would think that there would be financial limits to all the great players, but he's able to add them.

People are talking about a scenario where Howie does trade for Taylor.  If Howie does this, it means that he was able to do it, and thought it was viable financially.   What isn't happening right now is people beating the table to spend money on a new running back.  I'd be in favor of the trade,  but the trade isn't going to happen unless Howie thinks its a rational thing to do.

I call for Nolan Smith and Ben VanSumerland and a whole bunch of other candidates for snaps at the TE2 position.  And the TE2 position contains versatile players,  single purpose players on offense who play another position,  running QBs, eligible OL, eligible DL,  and short yardage rushers.  I think the Eagles should use players who used to run the ball,  the really big and fast ones that the Eagles do have, and have them as short yardage rushers.  There should be at least one big and hopefully fast short yardage running back, in addition to Jalen, who is good at it.  Jonathan Taylor would be that,  but I've got a long TE2 list and a lot of them could pick up a 1st down or TD.  Jordan Davis, Jalen Hurts, the starting OL,  etc.    I really don't like to see small running backs fail in short yardage situations.  I didn't like the safety.   In that situation, the safety situation, I would want the Eagles to use the best power choice.  And that's Jalen.  But there should be a better choice than Gainwell, or any of the Eagles running backs.  "No failure" options exist,  the Eagles have them,  but they need to activate them, with practicing, and I would want the Eagles to use them in those situations.

I am hearing that key members of the Eagles and Colts will meet tomorrow night...

Oh yeah, that's just a preseason game.

I hope Kelce doesn't play tomorrow because word on the street is they have a bounty on him.

Since the Taylor trade is hypothetically on the table, I’m willing to give various scenarios some thought. So here goes:

(1) The idea of Watkins being part of the package has some interesting wrinkles.  Specifically, the potential of Swift as a rotational slot receiver has merit.  Zaccheaus does pencil in as the primary slot receiver, and a combination of Zaccheaus and Swift as the slot platoon isn’t much of a downgrade from a Watkins and Zaccheaus platoon.

(2) Pretty clearly Gainwell would be part of the trade package.  I like him a lot, but swapping him out for Taylor is a no brainer, especially if Steichen likes him … which he should.

(3) including Driscoll in the trade makes no sense at all.  Our O-line depth is not as robust as we want it to be with Driscoll.  It would be even more suspect if he were gone.  But if Stoutland okays the inclusion of Driscoll, who am I to argue.

(4) I would be interested to hear what other Offensive pieces/players Steichen might like.  Any thoughts?

(5) The more current player value that can be included in the package the lower the draft pick will need to be.  If it can get to be as low as a 3rd round pick, I’m ready to pull the trigger.  Even if it is a one year rental, Taylor will yield a comp pick in return when he signs elsewhere.
