We don’t need Taylor, we have VanSumeren. Duh.

Ironclad logic there.

Just for the Blog I'm going to power rank all 300 of Harper's home runs

I think we should trade for Jonathan Taylor.  He's a good runner.  Running running backs are the best kind of running backs.

Yeah, why don't the Eagles have all-pros at every position?

I don't think Howie is looking to invest much in 4th/5th receiving option. Quez has a specific role, and it seems the coaching staff likes the improvements he has made or we would have seen more of him in preseason. Plus you have Zaccheaus, who is more shifty and will play a more traditional slot role.

They are 'all pros'... (None of them are doing this pro bono.) They just aren't All Pros. .

Penny makes sense as trade bait for the Colts. Not worth a lot, but would give the Colts something.  I'd be surprised if the Eagles trade for Taylor because scheme wise, they don't have an issue running.  A Safety on an expiring deal is much more likely IMHO

I would rather keep Penny.  He has more value here than he has trade value.  With load management I think he can be a good contributor here.

I think you’d be looking at a 2nd round pick + Gainwell as the trade package.  Colts will get a 2nd round plus if there are in fact multiple suitors.  Taylor’s contract status makes it extremely unlikely a 1st round pick would be on the table — in addition to the current condition of his ankle.

Not withstanding that no NFL team seems to be in a hurry to give a free agent RB 'big' money, let alone a sign and trade type situation where it costs big money and draft capital.  Definitely no first.  Even it including a second seems to be a bit of a stretch to me.  I don't think any team wants to pay that much.

Nobody said anything about Mariota. We were talking about Tanny, so please focus.

It's quite literally how the whole argument started in the first place. You doing okay, bud?

Yeah, I'm rambling. Oh, and I'm not going to the game tomorrow night. And I'm not looking forward to watching another installment of the Ian Book show.

Since McKee has already forced his way on to the 53, they should just let him have the game and get the extra reps.  All things being as we hope, it will be his last 'meaningful' snaps until next preseason.  Let him get whatever advantage he can from it.

Hated the one short yardage run by Kennedy Brooks where all he needed was a yard and he had a clear opportunity to do so yet decided to cut back and got stopped short. To me that's a lack of vision and awareness. And a slow-ish back like him can't afford to be like that. I'm not even sure he's a practice squad guy. They'll surely have a back on the PS, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's someone they add from another team's final cuts.

I agree that the Brooks ship has sailed. Pickup a "next project”back who is cut and put him on the PS.  Or possibly Tarik Cohen on the PS in a short leash "prove it” scenario.

The Colts are asking for first round value. We aren’t trading a first, or a combo of picks equal to a first, and then handing Taylor a big contract on top of it.

If the Colts will take a 3rd and Taylor will play on the last year of his rookie deal, then there is a chance.

Askin' ain't gettin'.

I agree to the last line.  A very late 3rd for a rental like him and chance to recoup some of that with comp picks later... do the deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Street or Tuipulotu gets traded for a late round pick. You can't keep everyone and both of those guys are NFL caliber players. Someone would want one of them.

Yeah, I'm rambling. Oh, and I'm not going to the game tomorrow night. And I'm not looking forward to watching another installment of the Ian Book show.

Again agreed.  If I keep one over the other, I keep Tui, but if they get a trade offer it is more likely to be for Tui, and Street is good enough that keeping him and trading Tui is a viable option.

Howie does spend 4th round picks on RBs on their rookie contract though.  Ajayi, Howard... both had more than the one year left, iirc though.  And neither had been looking for a new contract. So, this is a bit different.  If Howie can get him for a 4... he'll pull the trigger.  And then flip him for comp picks when he signs elsewhere after the season.   This would be a good landing spot for Taylor to maximize his earning potential by having a big year.

How so? The Eagles figure to pass more this year and use a running back rotation.

Passes attempted by Jalen Hurts last year, Regular Season+Playoffs:

Passes attempted by Trey Lance in College+Preseason+NFL in the last SIX years:

492

That is a real stat

Yup.  Extremely raw.  I was shocked he declared given his lack of experience coming out of NDState, and even more shocked the 49ers went after him so aggressively.  Of course, that crazy move made me less shocked when the Colts decided to jump on Richardson so high this past year.   Just too much to pay for that level of raw.

If you do that though, you're robbing every offensive skill position a chance at showing what they can do. I want to see some of these bigger WRs get more looks and I want to see Calcaterra and Jackson battle it out. Book can't get any of them the ball.

Lance makes no sense when we appear to have a developable qb in mckee. Lance is a bust so don’t waste any time or resource on him.

Yeah … but … if the PS alternatives for a QB are Book or Lance or nobody, which one do you choose?

He won't get cut for a year... by which time McKee is the backup, and Mariota is a memory.  Bring Lance in then after he's been cut.  He'll still be young then too.

If the play called is a read option and the correct read is for Hurts to keep the ball, he's keeping the ball. It doesn't matter who the RB is.

My hope is that they will have more plays that look like ROs, but are just straight gives to minimize those runs for Hurts.

From the flip side, if I'm a DC, I want Hurts running and taking those extra shots.

This is not true.

With Taylor here... they'd only make that move for him if they planned to use him as the bell cow.  One of the stable of Swift, Penny or Gainwell likely gets traded in return as well, limiting the rotation back to its original number.  But, the Eagles wouldn't even consider this type of move UNLESS they were intending to use him as a lead back and getting the lion share of the carries.  Swift would be your 3rd down back, and Gainwell likely is the piece that goes to Indy.

It's a long shot, but if the price is right for Taylor, Howie won't NOT make the move.  He can't help himself.

I said I'd give every rep to McKee.  Why would I care about when Book's next meaningful snap is?  He's not even worth an invite back next year.

I'm giving Mariota the entire 1st half and McKee the entire 2nd half. They both need the reps and Ian Book has done nothing to deserve playing time.

No Book.  All McKee all the time.  All 4 quarters.

Frankly, neither has Mariota.    And honestly, what will a few more reps do for him?   He's about to be 30 years old and has been in the league for almost a decade.  How much could 30 extra reps do for him?

I’m not convinced that Taylor would be any happier here without a new deal than he would be in Indy.  He wants more now…that’s what started the feud in Indy to begin with.

I don’t see it happening for that reason

edit…I quoted the wrong post, but the right poster lol

I hear you.  But, being on a winning team for less than your perceived worth versus being on a 'rebuilding' team for less than your perceived worth can be a very different situation.  If he sees that no team is willing to up their offer to pay him more than his current salary... which is better for Taylor?   Play for the Colts for peanuts and maybe win 4 or 5 games (if you are lucky), or play for the Eagles, get prime time exposure and have a shot at playing for the Lombardi?   All other things being equal, I think coming here would be more attractive than staying in Indy as a malcontent.

Winning is a great deodorant.  It wouldn't change his contract demands for next year, but it might give him a reason to play hard this year.
