At least with Mariota he hasn't lost his athleticism. He can still move. He might be a better runner than Hurts (TBF, he's a different type of a runner). There's hope for improvement.
There's zero hope with Ian Book.

With Taylor here... they'd only make that move for him if they planned to use him as the bell cow.  One of the stable of Swift, Penny or Gainwell likely gets traded in return as well, limiting the rotation back to its original number.  But, the Eagles wouldn't even consider this type of move UNLESS they were intending to use him as a lead back and getting the lion share of the carries.  Swift would be your 3rd down back, and Gainwell likely is the piece that goes to Indy.

It's a long shot, but if the price is right for Taylor, Howie won't NOT make the move.  He can't help himself.

Sermon, Scott and a 3rd in the next 2 drafts

Agreed.  Book is terrible.   And if Mariota comes in... this team might become a Single Wing offense and just turn the clock back 100 years on offensive football.  We'll see the US Military Academy offense each week.   And, with this OL and this stable of RBs... it just might win enough to keep the ship afloat.   But asking him to throw the ball more than 10-15 times a game would be flirting with disaster.

This is not true.

Check the roster, according to the Eagles they do

Since McKee has already forced his way on to the 53, they should just let him have the game and get the extra reps.  All things being as we hope, it will be his last 'meaningful' snaps until next preseason.  Let him get whatever advantage he can from it.

Nope. Playing behind OL guys who will be cut tomorrow is a fine recipe for getting hurt. A couple of series, maybe, but then sit him down.

You are probably right.  I'm willing to take that risk with my 3rd stringer.  Get a chance to see how he copes with instant pressure and can he get the ball out fast...

As @bpac55 pointed out, with Book you have lost the ability to run any semblence of an offense and lose any ability to evaluate anyone else out there... although, that's likely just a fan perspective... chances are the 53 are already decided before they ever suit up tonight.  There is nothing so meaningless in all of sports than the final preseason game in the NFL.  It has meaning to those on the field, and to their families... but to the rest of the world, its just beer league softball.

Makes me wonder if I'll even tune in tonight.  (I will of course... but will also likely hate myself for doing so.)

I said I'd give every rep to McKee.  Why would I care about when Book's next meaningful snap is?  He's not even worth an invite back next year.

Sorry, I read that wrong.

I understand the logic but I don't remember the last time a QB got knocked out of the preseason let alone due to the fact that the OL was terrible.  That's more of a theoretical scenario that rarely happens.  Of course guys can get hurt playing regardless

Someone who has not been here for a while is back under a different name.  My spidey senses are tingling.

I think we should trade for Jonathan Taylor.  He's a good runner.  Running running backs are the best kind of running backs.

Agreed. Running running backs are best.

Scott was behind McPhearson and Goodrich on the depth chart. They will sign a corner off the street before he makes the final roster.

Not sure how DE depth is even an issue with Graham, Smith and Barnett as the backups behind Sweat and Reddick? Are you worried Patrick Johnson is a bad sixth guy?

As far as UDFA's, Ricks has a pick six and multiple pass break ups and Garner has a forced fumble on special teams. Those are the guys.

I’m viewing Reddick and Smith as linebackers in this discussion. Patrick Johnson too. Our legit DE depth isn’t that terrific, although I do understand those three guys can kinda sorta be considered too. But I’m talking true hand in the ground guys. Maybe Milton and Ojomo could play some end too. Even so, I want a fourth guy behind Sweat, Graham, and Barnett who’s better than Jackson and Robinson.

I think Howie has enough sense not to give up anything of value for a RB wanting a big contract.  Don't buy any interest.

Equally unlikely is a trade for a LB but I would be much more in favor of that.  The Eagles don't really need much.  Another LB, a punter, any backup besides Mariota???

After these massive cuts for each team happen, I think we find our starting punter there.  No idea who, but they have to have some sort of contingency plan to replace Siposs.

My game plan.... start a fight 3 minutes into the game- a brawl....end the game early. Or fake a serious injury and end it. The Patriots are allowed to end games, so. Teams only need 2 pre-season games, maybe just one. NFL always talking safety, then have these ridiculous pre-season games where guys get hurt. Hypocrite league.

Doesn't he only have 1 leg now?

I don’t think they have the roster space for 7 edge defenders, and even 6 is pushing it. If everyone is healthy, Johnson never sees the field, and likely two guys have to get hurt before he sees any significant playing time.

Nate Sudfeld was scheduled to be the primary backup to Wentz in 2019 and got hurt in the preseason. The Eagles had to scramble to sign a veteran to be the number two. When Sudfeld returned he was never better than third string.

Also Wentz got hurt as a rookie in the preseason opener.

Starters play a quarter tonight?

Exactly price will be half off

Yeah … but … if the PS alternatives for a QB are Book or Lance or nobody, which one do you choose?

Nobody

I’ll be stunned if they play a single snap.

A 7th?  Damn I actually kinda like that move for the Giants. Solid gamble.

I think Book is fine as a practice squad QB but I am sure they will look for other possibilites.

How does anyone not offer a 6th lol.
