A 7th?  Damn I actually kinda like that move for the Giants. Solid gamble.

I would have been interested in that deal if I were Howie.

Damn, Simmons is the kind of long athlete the Giants usually find success with on defense. He might not have panned out in AZ, but hate to see them get a talent like that for so cheap. He might not turn in to anything but that's a great risk to take for a 7th.

Yep. Howie was sleeping on that one.

Maybe Cards not talking to us since the whole Gannon drama.

Hahaha.

Ahh yes, Howie Roseman. Asleep at the wheel.

After these massive cuts for each team happen, I think we find our starting punter there.  No idea who, but they have to have some sort of contingency plan to replace Siposs.

Yeah the pieces that the Eagles need (LB, a better punter, maybe an upgrade at rotational DE, a better backup QB) are likely to be found among the coming cuts.  They have a pretty dang good roster when all we can find to complain about is those positions.

I hated the Mariota signing from the beginning but we are likely stuck with him unless there is a clear upgrade that is cut or available in a trade.  A change of scenery for Lance would intrigue me as 3rd Qb if McKee hadn't played as well as he has.

Starters play a quarter tonight?

No chance at all. You won't even see key backups playing

They are playing Double Nickels on the Dime which is the best Minutemen album.

Yeah, he was on that one. He isn't perfect and that is a missed opportunity.

For a 6th

I'd have given a 6th. That's the kind of LB move I want to see them make vs a Queen.

It’s a 7th round pick so it doesn’t really matter, but Simmons in all likelihood sucks. His contract is cheap so it wasn’t even a salary dump. Surely the Cardinals offered him around to other teams and they couldn’t be bothered with beating a 7.

Simmons needed a specific defense to showcase his talent

He was a SS/LB coming out of Clemson

Haven't really followed Simmons career in Arizona but is he really that bad to get traded for a 7th?  Thought he was a solid player at the very least.

Maybe. Arizona tried him at a bunch of spots and he couldn’t play at any of them. But maybe the Giants have a different, specific vision for him.

I think Book is fine as a practice squad QB but I am sure they will look for other possibilites.

Well you are wrong. Book sucks, Notre Dame sucks and Rudy sucks. I don't even want him on the Philadelphia Stars.

I’d add was a regime change with the cardinals. It wasn’t their pick or their guy. They knew they weren’t going to extend him and his contract was over at the end of the year and he was unlikely going to bring them back a compensatory pick. So they took whatever the best offer was for a player they didn’t like, wasnt their guy and wasn’t very good since being drafted.  Believe the cardinals also save 3.4 mil in cap since it was a post June 1st trade.

I don't think they saved that much. He had a roster bonus that was due at the beginning of camp that the websites don't reflect in their trade scenarios. The only money they are saving at this point is his $1.1M base salary.

I looked it up — we don’t have a 7th and our 6th is the highest between us and the titans, so basically the titans pick which might be closer to a 5th.

I hear you.  But, being on a winning team for less than your perceived worth versus being on a 'rebuilding' team for less than your perceived worth can be a very different situation.  If he sees that no team is willing to up their offer to pay him more than his current salary... which is better for Taylor?   Play for the Colts for peanuts and maybe win 4 or 5 games (if you are lucky), or play for the Eagles, get prime time exposure and have a shot at playing for the Lombardi?   All other things being equal, I think coming here would be more attractive than staying in Indy as a malcontent.

Winning is a great deodorant.  It wouldn't change his contract demands for next year, but it might give him a reason to play hard this year.

Well said … very well said.

He had 99 tackles last year, 105 the year before.

Last year 4 sacks, 2 ints, 2 FFs, 7 PDs, 1 TD.

Seems like a versatile playmaker, but I don’t know if those tackle numbers are hollow. Seems like the kind of guy who might do well with 2 monster DTs in front of him…

Hurts won’t run as much this year, that I am positive of. The Eagles don’t star chase at RB.  Not sure how much more evidence is needed

Except Nick has said before that he doesn't plan to have him run less
