Only if they are a good passer

Agreed in principle, but even "good” might be a little strong. An average NFL passer with elite running ability is a nightmare to face for a defense.

Basically as long as you’re a competent passer, athleticism is a massive, massive force multiplier for the entire offense.

Agree.  New information always leads to new conclusions (or at least reevaluations).

Steen might move past Driscoll with more work in the system and with more work with Stoutland.   And if the injury is to Mailata... Steen might be thrown out there first too.

Players grow into their roles over time.  They gain experience and the game slows down for them.

Another position where that same dynamic may play out is Safety.  Experience May win the starting job in Week One, with Sydney Brown being elevated into a starting role somewhere around the Bye Week.  The difference is (1) Driscoll - Steen is a backup position battle, while Brown is vying fora starting role. (2) who the experienced alternative is to Brown is unclear. The talking heads on WIP believe the coaches have their doubts about Edmunds.  Clearly there are doubts about Evans and Wallace.  Those doubts do not exist for Driscoll.

He took a few, but I think it might been more for a situational role. Desai has been moving guys around quite a bit. Smith has lined up all over. Edmunds has taken quasi LB reps, etc. I don't think they would want to put Bradberry there for an extended period.

Reub and Zangaro made it sound like he took way more than a few. Sounds like they want Bradberry to be the guy in the slot to cover athletic tight ends.

Yeah - he was calm in the pocket.  He probably could have thrown one away rather than take a sack but he also didn't make any bad decisions.

For young QBs, I prefer taking the sack versus throwing a pick.

Just thinking about Jalen Reagor pisses me off. What a delusional head case that guy is. About to be out of the league, deservedly so

I wouldn't go that far. From what I recall, he was never a bad teammate or anything. His downfall was being picked before Justin Jefferson, who let's face it, NO ONE could have predicted how good he would be. Reagor should have been a 2nd round pick. He can never live that down and it's not his fault. He definitely is fighting his own demons in his personal life and I'd never wish anyone ill will for that.

Sucks the Eagles COMPLETELY jumbled that situation but silver lining...if they don't mess up with Reagor so bad, chances are Devonta Smith isn't an Eagle.

Bergeron went 12 picks later, so he nailed it.

Traits maybe. Not skills

skill is reading a def and being accurate with the ball

running qbs are what you use when you dont have a good qb

Running QBs are best.

I blame Howie.

the Chiefs may have been coming up for Nolan.

That's the great thing about 1st round picks; they gave up an additional 3rd round pick to take Mazi Smith, while leaving Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, and Nolan Smith on the board.  Hopefully for Mazi's sake he pans out.

Omar Epps gets it.  I really fear that the Eagles come out extremely sloppy against the Patriots. Yea, yea joint practices. You can't replicate a real game. Sure you can create every situation you want in a controlled environment but a real game isn't controlled.

That's kind of the point. Take Justin Jefferson out of it for a second. This guy was a fringe 1st/2nd round type talent. You're talking about him like he's some kind of UDFA or something. He's a head case.

I get the silver lining, but if we had Justin Jefferson would we need Devonta?

BTW... Hello, right here... I predicted he'd be really good.  In fact, he was my favorite WR in that draft, and I got flamed by some for saying it.

It might be your wording or the way I'm reading it but to me a head case implies a guy who is a consistent problem and doesn't really care about it. A guy like Antonio Brown. He's a headcase. I'm not defending Reagor for sucking but saying that there were things out of his control that had an effect on him as a professional.

That's how I would describe Reagor, on field.

Easy to hate on Reagor here after being a BUST. Thinking outside of that realm, the word is Reagor has had a nice camp. I actually would sign him as a 5 and punt returner at a vet minimum contract. Being that Covey may miss time. Under that lense, I am good with it. Knows the offense and redemption might be sweet here. And Howie could still look like a genius here, getting him for free a year later, after swindling Minnesota for some picks.

Edit:

So far Reagor trade has produced a 2023 #219 pick, which was part of compensation in a couple trades for Deandre Swift and landing Ojomo at #249. Howie already looking good here. Still got a 5th rounder next year. Reagor was gonna be cut last year.

Yeah, they really sucked last season due to that soft training camp.

Doesn't take that long to shake off cobwebs.

Very Bold Prediction:

After the season is over, the 49ers will still have the longest pro bowl QB drought.
