EMB Blog: 2023 Camps and Preseason - NO POLITICS

Yeah, they really sucked last season due to that soft training camp.

Doesn't take that long to shake off cobwebs.

And the team that won the Super Bowl has an intense TC and plays their starters in the preseason.

Dolphins are longer currently.

Oh snap, I didn't see that.  Yikes.

Fine, correction:  49ers WILL have the longest drought in the next 3 years.

Z receiver.  the fastest wr in most cases.  Taylor has that speed.  A shorter, heavier receiver.  That sounds like slot.

But overall, running backs would be benefiting themselves to be able to run WR routes.  Especially since WRs make more money than RBs.

Devonta is only a 4.45 WR.  Jonathan Taylor runs 4.39.  This is a full .06 faster.

And Pat Mahomes.

And lost 2 of their first 6 games and almost lost two more. Seems like the tough training camp had them playing at their worst early in the season.

I'm not saying I want the Eagles starters playing a full half against the lowly Colts, who were out for blood. I think it would be very beneficial to see Reed Blankenship on the field with the starters. Having all 3 levels of defense together with Nakobe Dean calling things out for the first time. Just getting on the field for some continuity.

Both methods seem to work but I think you have to play it year by year. The Eagles have a very tough schedule and every win counts. The Patriots are going to be firing on all cylinders for the Tom Brady #12 retirement. The Vikings always give the Eagles all they can handle. The Bucs should be an easy win but Washington won't be. Very good chance they start out 2-2 just because they are still working out the kinks, remembering how to tackle and getting called for ticky tacky penalties. All things we saw early on last year.

I get the silver lining, but if we had Justin Jefferson would we need Devonta?

BTW... Hello, right here... I predicted he'd be really good.  In fact, he was my favorite WR in that draft, and I got flamed by some for saying it.

I had Jefferson as my #2 WR in the draft.  Remember the drill I found of him catching balls as the door opened.

My first was Jeudy.  Injuries have really derailed Jeudy.  Maybe he needs a change of team that doesn’t have a huge issue with that.

Noah Ellis was NFI last year but under contract, I believe.  I don’t think NFI can rehab with the team.  Thus, I think he first got to the team with strength and training in the OTAs this spring. I wonder if they liked his raw ability they saw in PS and took advantage of his injury to put him on IR, where he can rehab, work with the team and attend the meeting sessions with the coaches during the season.  Maybe he can change his body to NFL shape, change 20 pounds from fat to muscle.

the Chiefs may have been coming up for Nolan.

I heard somewhere it was Anton Harrison, which makes sense since they signed Donovan Smith a week after the draft to start at LT.

Reuben Frank sounds like the Fatman from Jake and the Fatman in his podcast.  In fact, this clip pretty much sums up his podcasts with Dave Zangaro.

They started 8-0 last year.

What's more Ravens? The preseason streak or Pro Bowl QB Tyler Huntley?

3 TDs 3 picks 3 fumbles... pro bowl

Pro Bowl is a joke now.  Players back out and back out and back out, so that the alternate to the alternate to the alternate ends up being a Pro Bowler, but I believe each one that bows out counts as a Pro Bowler.

They are retuning 9 out of 11 starters on offense.  The only guys new to the team on O of import are Swift and Penny.  Same offense.  No rookies.  Several vets.  They didn't forget to play.

Further, everything you are looking for in your first paragraph actually occurred during the joint practices.  They simulated game situations with play clocks, referees, everything.  They saw Dean organizing the defense.  They saw Blankenship on the field.  If you were following the beat writers, Blankenship was a fixture with the starters all camp.  In fact he was the only safety NOT to dress last night.

Very Bold Prediction:

After the season is over, the 49ers will still have the longest pro bowl QB drought.

This pic shows me it's pretty easy for a QB to make the pro bowl
Do they name 10 of them every year or something

Just think, a few years down the road we'll have Jobe, Ricks, and Ringo all starting...our SECBs.

More than that.  There's 3 for each conference, plus 8 alternates per conference... so when the first 7 back out... you have QB 8, 9 and 10 in the Pro Bowl per conference.

Ricks and Ringo both need new numbers. And I still think Sydney Brown just looks wrong wearing 21 instead of 30.

Suggestions?  Assuming they are holding 25 for Shady, only 22 looks to be the only non-30 jersey available.

Or they could follow a path similar to Sheldon Brown.

Why would that be the case? The whole goal is to get healthy enough to come off the list and rejoin the team, so I would expect that rehab is all they are doing.

Also, Noah Elliss was at NovaCare all year last year during the season (confirmed by reporters, although they couldn't talk to him), and he even traveled with the team to Arizona for the SB. He obviously couldn't practice though, and I don't think he was allowed to be at team meetings, but not sure on that one.
