One thing that just occurred to me.  Isn’t Lance’s contract next year fully guaranteed?  So his cap hit is 100% on the niners and he is basically free for Dallas?

All remaining signing bonus cap hits stay with the original team.

All future guarantees go to the new team.

Isn’t he basically playing the same position as Nolan Smith?

Yes

Dallas trading a 4th for Trey Lance is hilarious.

On multiple levels.

You’re right.  And it looks like the bulk of the new salary is roster bonus.  So it’s 5 mil for San Fran and 5 mil for Lance

Yers but people are obsessed with the Steelers somehow getting better players than us even though most of the league thinks we have a top roster and have generally outperformed the Steelers in most seasons for years

They pretty much always have better LBs than us though.  So, there is that.  We do have a lot of the other positions taken care of pretty well though.

It’s fully guaranteed at payout, which transfers to Dallas. Niners would only be on the hook for cap hits they are already paid him before the trade

He has a big fully guaranteed roster bonus due in training camp

So let’s get this straight. 49ers have whined non stop since January 30 about only having 2 QBs. 49ers whined so much they reinstated the 3 QB rule. So… 49ers trade their 3rd QB.

Counting is hard.   What comes after 2?

How much game experience does Lance actually have though?  😕

Hardly any

List of recent Uberbusts:

Josh Rosen was horrifyingly bad in games he played in. Arizona still got a 2nd rounder for him.

Sam Darnold started 3 years in NY and barely crossed 3000 yards once. The other two years were marred by injuries and bad turnovers. The Jets got a 2nd AND a 3rd for him.

The Jets currently value Zach Wilson more than the 9ers valued Trey Lance. Really let that set in.

The fact that SF did not view him as valuable as a day 3 pick and Dallas wasn’t outbid tells us that he isn’t seen as a future starting QB by anyone in the NFL.

Watching the Lions game the announcers said CJGJ night by the odd man out at safety. Would the Eagles consider trading for him?  Has he burns all bridges with Philly?

49ers starters losing to Chargers backups. Not too worried about them.

Personnel call on Line 1.  It is someone named Wentz.

No trade.  When he gets cut, he can come back here with his tail between his legs...  but only if he does the following with Howie:

I find that hard to believe. That he'll be cut.

Don’t need him anymore. The Killer bees have arrived

This is going to be Dak's last year in Dallas if Trey looks anything worth a damn in practice for the Cowboys while Dak fails to again take the Cowboys deep in the playoffs.  Due for a new contract and Cowboys might not want to pay the going rate with all the other top talent they are paying and going to have to pay.

The Lance deal is a good one for DAL, with the potential to be very good.  People assume because Lance got flushed out of SF that he can’t succeed anywhere else, likely figuring if Kyle Shanahan can’t work with him then there isn’t anything there.  In fact, Kyle Shanahan has had very little success developing QBs; he knows how to draw up plays and design an offensive scheme — but that is quite different from developing QB talent.

2007 - 2009 Texans — Matt Schaub.  Didn’t develop him; Schaub had better success previously

2010 - 2013 Washington — RG III.  Griffin had a very good rookie season and regressed afterward

2014 Cleveland — Brian Hoyer.  Meh.  Also worth noting this is where Johnny Manziel landed; Shanahan didn’t exactly do a great job mentoring Manziel to be a pro

2015, 2016 Atlanta — Matt Ryan.  Didn’t develop him; Ryan was already a successful pro QB

2017 - 2022 San Fran — Jimmy G.  Didn’t develop him; Garoppolo was already signed to a big deal upon landing in SF.  If Shanahan did develop Jimmy G, it’s with a mid-tier ceiling.

Shanahan is a bit like McVay in LA — both much better at scheming up offenses than developing the players within it.

Lance stinks

I don't think we should be rooting for Gardner-Johnson to fail. He's still a component in the comp pick formula for next year.

17 FCS starts and 4 NFL starts. Takes "basically a rookie" to a new level

I can't believe Pre-Season is over (for us). I haven't actually been able to watch even a single snap. Did Hurts play any at all?

He did not.
