I wanted to try kingery. He was raking in the minors for like 2 months and they refused to for Harrison and now Castro.

Kingery works too... he can play all over.   But, Castro literally brings nothing... and you know he wouldn't, because the PIRATES had demoted him.  The PIRATES!

I'd even settle for Weston Wilson!   At least he can hit and just gets on base a ton.  Like I said before... I'd like to have a strong right handed bat on the bench for the playoffs.

Makes it more irritating is they could option him down to the minors as he has a bunch of options left and bring up someone like Clemens or kingery or even Wilson

Dolphins/Jaguars game has been suspended/canceled. The league clearly has made on field injury protocol a focus after the Hamlin situation between this and all the other players getting carted off for almost any reason. I wonder how much will carry into the regular season

This USC/SJSU game was fun for a little bit but it's obvious USC is the superior team.

The Ravens lost again. That post-preseason win streak hangover is a B.

Opeta, Penny and a 5th for Taylor.

I like it, but I would replace Penny with Gainwell.

A better question, is Jalen Mayfield better than Julien Good-Jones?

Two levels of OL on the PS.  Level One has true depth players who could actually take snaps in case of injuries on the 53 man roster.  Level Two are developmental projects.  Good-jones is in the former group.  Mayfield if signed to the PS would be in the latter group … enrolling in Stoutland U.

Player safety is a 100% a priority but I REALLY hope this knee jerk reaction to cancel games because of a serious injury doesn't carry over to the regular season.

OK with Ian Book gone, who's snagging 19? That's gotta be a hot ticket right now. Punters can now wear 0-49 and 90-99. Siposs, or whoever the punter is needs to take one for the team and wear 47. Let the skill guys have the good numbers. With the Eagles having 5, 9, 12 and 15 out of circulation, their skilled players are already limited. Appreciate the SB Nick, but 9 needs to be back in circulation. Same with 25.

McKee and Siposs are both wearing 10. Assuming one of them goes to 19. Again, with looser number rules, Siposs should do everyone a favor and take 47.

Open skilled position numbers as of today, 19 and 47.

-Do one of Ringo or Ricks (I'm assuming he's on the team) make a move for 19? 37 and 39 are terrible CB numbers but there's just not much left.

-Sermon is gone but I'm guessing he's back on the PS so 22 is taken.

-Kennedy Brooks is gone so 34 could open up. Maybe Edmunds would take 34 (his Pittsburgh number) assuming he makes the team and that would open up 26.

-If Josiah Scott is cut, 33 is there which would be an upgrade for either Ringo or Ricks.

-Could Mariota be a surprise odd man out? If so, 8 would either be open or go back to Siposs.

-I honestly hate Nolan Smith in 3 and Sydney Brown in 21. Kelee Ringo should be in 3. Smith should be in 56 (Sorry Tyler Steen, get a number in the 60s) and Brown should be in 30, even though Justin Evans has 30. Evans could convince Gainwell to take 19 and he could then take 14 giving both players their college numbers. Gainwell has said he likes 14 so that won't happen either.

-If Brown had 30, Ricks could go to 21.Ricks in 21 would take his confidence level up even more. I guarantee you he HATES 39. Sounds silly to think that but as Jerry Rice once said, "you look good, feel good, feel good, play good" Don't think for a second that a jersey number can't have an effect on a players mindset. Wearing a number you hate can just bring you down.

OK, so there's so mindless number chatter. Probably going to get a lot of eye rolls or who cares about numbers comments but I love jersey number analytics and such.

Kingery is the Phillies Joe Ostman. Even after years of failure, fans still can't accept the fact that he's not good.

And yes, I kinda did steal the Ostman reference from earlier today. Sorry.

No, no one was expecting him to be a savior or solid again like 2019. However, we already knew Josh Harrison (after 3.5 months of watching him at this stage of his career) and Castro being bad for months with the pirates werent anything better than what you had in kingery. Kingery was red hot and hitting like .350 in the minors for a month prior to that Castro trade when Harrison got hurt. Cave raked and did the same thing in the minors and they gave him a chance at the mlb level. Harrison was at the end of his career and essentially done. It was worth the shot in the offseason but when he wasn’t good then got hurt you could see he was done.

No Phillies fan expected kingery to be good. Just that kingery sadly can play just as many positions than those two, was already in our system and just as good/bad as those two. Which isn’t saying much. Sadly Castro and kingery have similar slashes for first 3 years of their career and Castro is a worse fielder for their careers (.952 vs. .968).

if we are gonna say years of failure he was awful during 2020 pandemic (36 games)and then had 19 ABs in 2021 (didn’t have an at bat in 2022). prior to that in 2019 (second year) he hit 19 HRs, 55 RBIs,15 SBs(.258/.315./.474/.788) (126 games) which is better than any year in castro’s had. Kingery is never going to do that ever again. he’s not that good. but majority of castro’s time at the mlb level he’s been equally as bad to kingery and pirates demoted him where he was awful in the minors to the point pirates were willing to give up on him.

Kingery was/is much worse than ‘not good’; he’s a woeful player in almost every respect. Little guy who couldn’t win with speed, made a bunch of errors as a part time utility guy, couldn’t produce runs either scoring or driving them in, and struck out a TON as a part time player.  Terrible fundamentals, no baseball sense.

He was so comically horrible at the plate his last two seasons, he would have been better off asking Chris Davis for batting pointers.

Again was not about kingery being great or good. He’s had 20 ABs over the last two years. Castro in his last 20 MLB ABs has 1 more hit than kingery did in his last 20 AB he had in 2021 and 2022. Castro right there with kingery in needing to ask Chris Davis for advice. comparing his career and kingery they are nearly identical as hitters in their slashes. Castro is actually worse as a fielder analytically (.952 vs. .968).

And Harrison this year was bad. At least understood it to start the year hoping he was a good veteran bench player. After 3 months it was obvious he was done. Castro was good for a week and a half in April (8-17) it’s why his numbers don’t look worse. Since May 1st these are his slashes .183/.263/.263/.526 and that doesn’t include he’s been a bad fielder on top of that. His 2022 was similar, he was hot for 3 weeks in august but before and after he was not good (hit just under .200 and OBP at .270) and his fielding was an issue during that time too. So basically traded for Scott kingery when you already had kingery and the kingery you had actually somehow is a better fielder

if we’re going to make a move go get somebody then get someone who’s actually better than Scott Kingery. So we dealt for woeful bad defensively scott kingery that happened to play for the pirates and named castro

Was about not giving up a prospect for Castro and at least giving kingery a shot before trading for another bad bench guy. comparing his career and kingery they are nearly identical as hitters. Castro is actually worse as a fielder analytically (.952 vs. .968). kingery is basically Castro without giving up any prospect. And Harrison this year was actually worse than kingery’s mlb career averages. Castro was good for a week and a half in April (8-17) it’s why his numbers don’t look worse. so if we’re going to make a move go get somebody who’s actually better than Scott Kingery.  again nothing really do with the thought Scott Kingery was going to be good or is good but castro is essentially kingery so you might as well just used kingery.

Falter isn’t a "prospect” any more than Castro is a prospect; they both came into the majors in 2021.  Castro just turned 24 years old.  Meanwhile, Kingery is more than 5 years older and already got 100 more chances than he should have, thanks to being Krapler’s adopted son or something.  They traded away their junk for someone else’s junk in hopes there might be something there — because at least at 24, he might have some potential.  Kingery is straight garbage.

You’re either complaining just to complain or you’re being deliberately disingenuous.  Either way, don’t try to pass off the bowl of excrement that is Scott Kingery and try to make believe it’s ice cream.

Caleb Williams is still Caleb Williams - The best player in the country. I really hope he ends up in the AFC.

That freshman Zach Branch though is f'in electric. Legit Reggie Bush flashbacks.

Castro is statistically a worst fielder than kingery. WORSE. And castro’s slashes his first 3 years in the league are nearly the same as what kingery’s were (less actual production) when the Phillies gave up on him after his 3rd year. he is just like what you call kingery, "straight up garbage” as the majority of his 3 years speaks to that. Been bad since end of april. But particularly awful since the middle of June. Since June 9th he’s .106/.181/.106/.287 and poor in the field (they optioned him to triple A and he was bad in the minors before he pirates traded him).

again show me where i said Scott Kingery was good or a savior? Not in there. I said i rather just use kingery as Castro is essentially kingery (neither are worthy of being on a MLB roster) and keep falter/prospect for depth purposes (which I’ll get into further down)

Do we consider Cris Sanchez as a "prospect”? Cause if we do he’s actually slightly older than falter. I rather have Bailey falter and just use kingery over what Castro has been in the minors and so far in his 3 years in the majors.

i don’t think falter is some devastating loss or even all that good. But with painter out and Abel/McGarry not ready you don’t have mlb ready spot starter if guys get hurt or ease their IP count. But falter is a 5th starter/spot starter which the Phillies in their minor league lack mlb ready depth at starting pitching if injuries occur/mounting career high in innings pitched so they could potentially use him. Sanchez is reaching his career high in innings (75 is his highest at any level. He’s at 70 with a month left), lorenzen is already over his career high in IP by 20 innings and we still have a month left (maybe last two starts is he is wearing down a little), walker is struggling with velocity due to usage (wanted to skip more starts cause he’s wearing down), strahm pitching his second most innings of his career and Ranger is hurt again. So you may need another potential spot starter with MLB experience like falter has before the end of the season for multiple reasons and they don’t exactly have it in the minors. Using strahm hurts your bullpen and he’s already pitched more than he has over the last 4 years. They have a crappy Castro in the minors or just using Harrison. Just saying Castro was in the minors when the Phillies dealt for him and his slashes were bad and significantly worse than kingery this year (Castro: .192/.246/.346/.592; kingery .248/.331/.412/.743)

Last year in 16 starts falter had a 3.86 era. Thankfully Sanchez is pitching better than falter did last year.  Sanchez like falter giving them solid production as their 5th starter which they badly needed. Also falter has a 3.26 era since going to be pirates (similarly when he got called back up in July last year and he began being a solid 5th starter; July onward last year has a 3.66 ERA in 13 starts). So again i rather take my chances with crappy kingery (which i still haven’t said he was good) and keep falter for depth purposes as our pitchers are all exceeding their highs in IP

That "some potential” he has is also a bowl of excrement. He’s been a poor utility infielder at the MLB level for majority of his 3 years and in the minors statistically is kingery.
