For the first time ever, I've finally started to consider the possibilities of Devon Allen finding a way onto the roster. And even if it's only the practice squad (another team might just actually claim him however), I'd consider finding a way to activate him for games just to see.

What impressed me more than I was expecting was his ability to shorten his steps and change directions. He obviously has a real burst, as demonstrated a few times on Thursday night, not to mention his countless track races. But you usually don't associate track guys with COD. I'm also wondering if his ability to shorten his strides naturally might be a byproduct of being a hurdler. I don't know a whole lot about track, let alone hurdling, but I suspect that hurdlers are constantly having to adjust their strides when running, even if only ever so slightly, in order to put their foot at the right spot before planting for their jump. Regular sprinters wouldn't have that issue. Maybe years of doing that has given Allen a knack. (I may be completely FOS on this one.)

I'll say this though. I wouldn't want him anywhere on punt returns. That bobble of the opening kickoff suggests to me that he's not to be trusted when defenders would be right in his face, as would be the case for a punt returner. A bobble on a kickoff, while not ideal, isn't necessarily a turnover threat since you'll always have time to pick the ball up if you do drop it.

Also, I remember when the NFL enacted the new rule allowing for fair catches that so many people were saying we'd be seeing it all the time. I suggested otherwise, that it would be far from the norm. In three preseason games with maybe two dozen kickoffs, we didn't see one.

That‘s my fear too.

Still hoping it‘s just some competitive advantage crazyness though..

Because they want to see how guys play during real returns.  Not fair catches.

Curious what we could get for Barnett

I was looking at the Redskins (sp) message board a while ago and it would appear to me that Casey Toohill is on the bubble at defensive end. I would absolutely put a claim in on him if they waive him. He would immediately be an upgrade at DE4 over Jackson and Robinson.

I'm still really upset at the way the Eagles lost him. They raved about him when he made the 53-man roster out of camp, only to try to sneak him through waivers one weekend in order to put him on their practice squad. And he immediately got snagged by a division rival. I realize that you have to sometimes gamble with bottom of the roster decisions and that it sometimes won't work out. But to me, that one hurt.

I don’t know if it’s that serious but it is concerning how quiet they’ve been with it and him not practicing. What they end up doing with Barnett might tell us more.

I think it's one of those situations where he'd be worth more to us than the value of the draft pick. Our DE depth is precarious as it is.

Got the call and Kelce is doing good.  Put in 1 plate and 6 screws.  They said the break was in a "good" place and expect a quick and full recovery.

In case anyone wonders what this costs, looks like it's around 8 grand all in.  Really glad the ahole didn't fix the water valve setting off this chain of events <_<

I am glad he’s alright. We had a similar thing happened to one of our dogs. It wound up costing 5000. We had insurance which cover most of it. If the dog tries to gnawing at the cast, get him a dog onesie. That really helped with our dog and prevented him from gnawing at it.

Barnett, besides that Superbowl victory, has not stood out. Besides, dumb penalties at the worse possible time. And been an inconsistent rotation defensive end at best. Coming off a serious injury and has had an ordinary camp. Needs to earn his playing time here forward. I will gladly drive this low IQ bum to the airport, if Howie can pull some magic here.

Last weekend we got a frantic call from a renter.  She was in the hospital for a few weeks can came back to our shore condo to get her stuff and go home water was dripping out of the vent in the bathroom.  Apparently the upstairs unit reported a leak and instead of fixing it, the guy who maintains it just shut the valve off instead of, you know, fixing the problem.  So another set of renters saw the sink upstairs wasn't working and turned the valve on.  Was leaking into our unit for weeks.

So we made an emergency trip down to the shore to address the situation.  We had drywall people in working on the unit and so we drove to Lowes with the dogs to pick up a replacement vanity.  Our other Cav, Izzy, gets very worked up whenever we go somewhere in the car, and that in turn was making Kelce a nut bag.  Izzy is 9 so she just pretty much wines loud and jumps up on us, but Kelce being a pup was zipping back and forth, so we put him in the cart to calm him down.  Worked awesome, he was just sitting there good looking around the rest of the trip.

When we were done checking out, I had to push the vanity on a separate cart, so he was in the one behind me that schmoopie was pushing.   He decided he wanted to be up with me and leapt out of the cart, landing on the concrete walkway in front of the store

Like I said, he's a good boy.

He was really not messing with the splint, so he only wore it at night when we crated him.  After surgery he will have to have it on full time

Poor guy, hope he heals quick.

Yup, I'd swap out toohill for Barnett as well.

I am guessing it's a stinger. Those are tricky. Jordan Howard one was turrible.

Barnett is in a contract year and I'm sure he wants to make more money.

Baltimore needs EDGEs.

Heard that Rosenhaus has put out that he's looking to get traded elsewhere and get more playing time.    I'm all for it.

Besides being a ruthless general, and by modern standards a bigot and an antisemite, Sherman was also fond of the theater. He once attended a performance of Hamlet but left early, after expressing, loudly, his contempt for the actors. He was also a painter and his wife a superb needlepointer. He wept on the battlefield when he saw the dead and wounded, but he proposed a "final solution" to the Indian problem. Yes, in those words. As part of his war against the Indians, he ordered the slaughter of five million buffalo. He was probably, after Lincoln, the finest wordsmith of the Civil War. His letter to the mayor of Atlanta is a classic piece of writing.

You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our Country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out.

The amazing thing about that letter, is not just the eloquence with which he unpacks the actual NEED for the atrocities of war to be brought to bear on Georgia (here, specifically on Atlanta) with the most limited loss of life possible, by giving them free passage out of Atlanta before moving in... but the fact that he builds the case 'in haste' as he puts it at the bottom of the letter.  He didn't have a chance to draft and redraft and revise... but maybe one dictation given and a few edits along the way, but I would conjecture the whole thing was done in less than an hour, possibly considerably shorter than even that.
