There has always been betting it was just in Vegas or illegal.

We all know the point spreads which only exist for gambling.

There will always be betting unless bettors think the game is rigged.

You keep the game honest by hitting betting player morons with a hammer.

They all are indefinite when betting on NFL games, including Ridley. Seems to be more of a technicality than actual punishment though.

Something to think about for the Pete Rose apologists.

Pete was the manager.

Pete did not always bet on his team.

In games where he did bet on his own team he might use his best relievers and pinch hitters and in general try harder to win.

He might use his clear and obvious insider knowledge about when his pitchers had their best stuff or were feeling good or when the team looked crisp in practice.

Wise guys could then gain an edge by betting like Pete did.
