Another point about Allen. I don't think he's necessarily being kept as someone to groom for the future. He's a "right now" kind of guy. There really isn't a future with him. But he maybe could have some utility "right now" as I expressed just a while ago.

That's what I suggested last week. Sills had the Stoutland "stamp of approval" tattooed for everyone to see. They had kept him on the roster all last year to groom him for the future, and they had done so with a lot of difficulty. Massaging the back end of the active roster was tricky the entire time, with Sills, Sermon, and Book being kept.

It just felt inevitable that he would be snagged if he were exposed. They kept him last year over about four or five other offensive linemen who made active rosters of other teams. And then the whole legal issue happened and it all went to hell for him. But still, you know that Stoutland had liked him and saw something there.

It's disappointing.

As far as Wallace is concerned, meh.

I wasn’t impressed with what I saw of Sills this PS.  He did seem to slip.  Good-Jones made it to the PS.  He improved at C as camp went along.  He was in his second go round at Stout U sandwiched around some seasoning in the CFL.  Not worked up about losing Sills.  Glad Good-Jones made it to the PS.

Does Greg Ward mean nothing to you? Jeez

His best season he put up just over 400 yards on more than 50 receptions.

Thank God they were able to get Greg Ward back.   He's been one of the biggest leaders in the lockerroom and a huge reason why the WR group is as good as it is and is such a tight knit group.

hahahaha step aside BG, Cox, Hurts, pretty much anyone else....GW is one of the biggest leaders in the room from the end of the bench playing with his plastic army figures. The trolling is getting as weak as Koy was as a QB.

Greg Ward is a valuable 53rd man or practice squad guy.

He's a leader and one hell of a model American.

If he was on the 49ers last year as a former college QB they would have only lost to the Eagles by 21 instead of 24.

Allen seems to have more value on a bad or mediocre team.

I think he can make big plays, and he also can muff kick returns.  He can do both on the same play.

A team that loses might need an inconsistent weapon who makes big plays.  The Eagles are a team that usually wins, and that is likely to continue.   Failing to catch a kick could easily mean -7 points.  That's bad.  Making a huge kick return is great.

Just for giggles, I decided to do my nerd duty and "do the research" on all the shanked punts Siposs had last year. It was staggering how often it happened.

First of all, I think it's difficult to determine what is and what is not a shank. A shortish punt from opposing territory might actually have been by design. So I think it's best to go with punts from about the Eagles 45 and behind. Siposs had 36 such punts last year. So what is a shank exactly? I would suggest it's a punt that traveled less than 35 yards and had less than 4.0 hangtime. Does that seem fair? If so, Siposs had exactly ZERO shanked punts last year.

If you want to loosen the restrictions a bit, you could look for punts that traveled less than 40 yards and had 4.0 hangtime. Of the 36 Siposs punts from last year from the Eagles goal line to their 45 yard line, he had exactly ONE shanked punt. It was the final punt in the Super Bowl, a play that we'd have pretty much forgotten if about five guys surrounding Toney had tackled him instead of allowing him to escape for a backbreaking return.

I definitely see a trend though. One out of 36 is telling when it's the final one. One in a row is definitely alarming. Let's get out the pitchforks.

Incidentally Brett Kern had 14 punts last year from the 45 and in. SIX(!) of those were shanks. Again, I assert that people claiming a propensity of bad punts from Siposs are inadvertently attributing the crappy punts of Kern to him.

Whatever.

I never felt that Siposs was particularly bad or particularly good.

Agreed.  Sills wasn't football ready when he returned this season.  Tried to get him through waivers, to no avail.  That said, they did find Fred Johnson.

Further, Howie has added an OL as his first pick on Day 2 each of the past three drafts.  Whereas his last three first round picks have been DL.

Did a deep dive over all the available punters and seems there are major concerns with each. Araiza seems like the clear cut best option. Doubt Eagles do it though.

What Harper has been doing defensively at first base is just amazing. What an athlete.

I much happier having Opeta than Sills, and I wonder if Steichen was going to claim whichever one we cut. Sills clearly regressed massively during his legal issues.

He also provides value as the "super fast" guy on the opposition during practice.  I'd image they would have him run the Tyreek Hill routes

Wow, I am a big fan of Ward but that is comical. I will weigh in on the who is the number one WR for the Eagles.  It’s a pick your poison decision by the other team as to whether the play goes to Brown or Smith when the rock goes to a WR.   The Eagles are pretty blessed.  I like OZ as depth.  Better than Pascal.

I like Greg ward but come on now slow your roll.

If ward wasn't on this team I'm confident In saying the eagles WR duo of AJ and Smitty would still be elite.

Glad ward is back lets not pretend he is more than he is.

I guess they don't have sarcasm in Utah?

Now we know why Howie traded Covey.  Had to make room for Reagor's return.

I think that's a fair take, and it's one that I agree with. He's there. He's okay. We could do better. We could do worse. It's just weird how so many fans want him gone yesterday and attribute all kind of misdeeds to him simply because they're angry about the Super Bowl.

Had a conversation with my dad yesterday, in the last 30 years any player acquisition ( trade or free agent) by any of the four major sports in Philly I would argue he’s been the best out of all of them, besides Nick Foles because of what he did in the Super Bowl and winning a Super Bowl. But if Harper goes onto win a World Series, you could make the argument he would be the best free agent/trade pick up in the last 30 years of any Philadelphia sports team.

The other discussion we had was, what would it take for him to be a top three Phillies of all time. If he wins a World Series and another MVP I think you have to put him in there.

He performs at punter like Davis Mills performs at QB. Bottom 5 in a 32 team league. That is particularly bad.

He's also one of the worst punters in playoff history. Like Andy Dalton at QB.

So Davis Mills regular season and Andy Dalton playoffs.

Where it gets hilarious is when someone tries to pretend that Mills 78.8 rating is really almost the same as Mac Jones 84.4 rating and he had special circumstances holding him back.

If you look at his air yards on 2nd down in his own territory then he was really a pretty good QB.

He also won the job vs Kyle Allen so the Texans should have just stuck with Mills again this year.
