#300: September 26, 2012 vs Phillies

That's pretty much my take on preseason games. Give the unproven/non-starters a look in a game situation. Nobody is forced to watch preseason games. If you want to see top grade play, this ain't it. Maybe the Phillies could manage to schedule a game during the Eagles preseason games🙂.

I only watch the Phillies when it's Red October :) I appreciate the free nuggets for the kiddo though.

You keep saying less shanks.  Do you have any data to support that assertion, or are you simply bloviating.

I have no data to support all the skanks that I rave about.  You'll just have to take my word for it.

Why not even a tryout?

Maybe they don't like him as a person and his punting isn't the key to the decision.  Maybe there are 31 other teams that are currently steering clear.  Something seems to stink about him.

So does Siposs go with number 19 or something in the 40s? He's obviously not getting 10 since that's McKee.

Or do they completely switch it up on us and allow McKee to snag 18 since Covey isn't on the actual roster and force Covey to get a number in the 80s?

Also I'm going to assume that Albert O gets 85 which is what he wore in Denver.

I was thinking the same thing about McKee but my guess is he just goes with 19 and Siposs keeps 10 since he's wearing it at practice today. Although, I hate wasting a good number like 10 on such a crap punter.

I thought Tyree Cleveland was brought back to IR but he's not showing up on the roster at all? Maybe they just settled with him. If that's the case, 85 is the clear choice for Albert O.

Josiah Scott and Trey Sermon are gone. Ringo and Ricks need to jump on 33 and 22.

VanSumeren could go back to his college 42 with Wallace gone now too.

I don't remember the last time they didn't bring in players from other teams for the PS

At some point might want to consider taking kimbrel out of the closer role. He’s been shaky in august and last week really bad. in august 11 IP and 8 ERs and had a base runner in 9 of 11 appearances

He's had one NFL workout since everything came out, and one contract offer from Liga de Futbol Americano Profesional. Even the USFL, XFL and CFL don't seem interested. Something stinks indeed.

You're not quite right.   The T formation is actually older than the Single Wing.

T formation is Quarterback,  Fullback,  Left Halfback, Right Halfback.

T formation existed,  maybe 1920,  apparently the Bears used it then, and never went to the Single Wing.  Single Wing - which you described well - later 20s,  ruled the 30s,  and was around, in modified form,  with some teams,  in the 40s.

Famous game,  T formation Bears with Sid Luckman vs Single Wing Redskins with Sammy Baugh.  1940 NFL Championship game.  Bears win 73-0.  It was said that this game was the one that killed the Single Wing.  But there were still some single wing teams after the Redskins lost.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1940_NFL_Championship_Game

Youtube has some good, clear, color film of single wing teams.  Interesting stuff,  I occasionally go back to look at it.  I guess someone affiliated with the Lions had a nice camera,  because both games had the Lions in them.    The Single Wing of the Lions in the 40s is closer to contemporary football than the T formation is.

Single wing was basically shotgun snaps,  T formation was under center, and these days there's more shotgun than under center.

You'll see blocking back / quarterback here as well as wingback.

Knute Rockne ran the single wing, or a slight variation called the Notre Dame Box. That was 1918. Pop Warner developed the single wing and published a book on it in 1912. He ran the single wing at Carlisle, featuring Jim Thorpe, in 1907. FWIW, I made no mention of the T formation in my post. Nor did I say what formation came first. I addressed the terminology of quarterback, halfback, fullback, and wingback only.

Hoffman has been most reliable reliever. Didn't even start the season with club. Alvarado has to ramp up and may take over bulk of closing. Soto and Dominguez are just off right now.

Well that sucks

ok.  and the stuff you said was right.  mostly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T_formation

The T formation is often said to be the oldest offensive formation in American football and is claimed to have been invented by Walter Camp in 1882. However, as the forward pass was legalized, the original T became obsolete in favor of formations such as the single wing. Innovations, such as a smaller, more throwing-friendly ball, along with the invention of the hand-to-hand snap in the 1930s, led to the T's revival.

The T formation, described as the "regular formation", in Fielding Yost's 1905 book Football for Player and Spectator

Think Dominguez is just overworked from last season. He pitched a career high in innings with the postseason.

why i was a proponent of going it and getting hicks from the cardinals. Dominguez and soto have been all over the place. Alavardo had an elbow issue. Kimbrel has pitched a ton of innings already.

He’s just freaking clutch. Like if it’s gonna be dramatic then it’s gonna happen

Reminds me of another big home run spot for #500.

One of the only times you really saw emotion from him on the field too.

Me after that game

300th homerun is quite a milestone. I don't think it's been driven home enough tbh.

So what did I say that was wrong? I never said which came first; that’s your issue, not mine.

I'll be opening the Regular Season blog in few days.

I've been thinking about having two blogs this season, on each side of the bye.  The Regular Season blog slowed down at the end of the season last year.

Thoughts?
