Come on now... you gotta admit, they pretty punny.

Crazy to think 11 or so years ago Cole Hamels welcomed the phenom to the league by plunking him in his first at bat against he Phillies (IIRC) and today we watched that same kid his #300 in a Phillies uniform.  Never have I had such a change of heart on an athlete, but Harper is a true Phil!

I'm shocked they are a scummy organization

Bidwells and Norman Braman have a lot in common.   Both considered moving a team to Phoenix.  Only reason Braman didn't is because Bidwell did.  Braman charged for socks, Bidwell charges for meals.

I'll be opening the Regular Season blog in few days.

I've been thinking about having two blogs this season, on each side of the bye.  The Regular Season blog slowed down at the end of the season last year.

Thoughts?

Does it really matter what people think? Do whatever you think is best.

A lot to unpack here.

First of all, it's Bidwill not Bidwell. About 70% of people get it wrong but it's not difficult to be among the 30%.

Secondly, Braman never considered moving the team to Phoenix. In fact when he bought the team from Leonard Tose, he was celebrated as being a local guy who was intent on KEEPING the team in Philadelphia. He was a Miami based car dealer with Philadelphia ties. After being threatened with losing the team under Tose, it was a huge relief when Braman bought the team.

I'll assume you're correct about him charging for socks. Sounds like something I've heard before. While a lot of things ultimately went wrong with Braman, threatening to move the team was not one of them.

This ‘Albert O’ guy Howie traded for looks more like another big WR than a TE.  He has TE size for sure, but his blocking is suspect, to say the least, at this point.

Still… I think the Eagles pose much more of a threat in 12 sets with this guy vs Stoll or Calc.

Or am I missing something here?  This guy looks like another mismatch for defenses

If they were better owners, I'd worry about it.

You may be right... I was rather young when Braman bought the team, and remember the Phoenix rumors.   Braman was certainly far from a savior.

This blocking thing is based on one, repeat one, film clip.

all good,  good to talk about old time football.

If one looks at pro football reference,  one can see the different names they used to call positions.

Today,  we see TE WR RB QB.   Over the course of the decades,  you could find

FL - flanker
SE - split end
LE - left end
RE - right end
BB - blocking back
FB - fullback
QB - quarterback
WB - wingback
LH - left halfback
RH - right halfback
TB - tailback
HB - halfback

looking at 1921,  most teams had the TB, FB, BB, WB single wing,  the Bears were T Formation
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/1921.htm

In a system I played, we had a quick tackle and a strong tackle, a quick guard and a strong guard. Somewhat equivalent to a split end and a tight end.

Well, I know I only saw one clip. I would defer to you as far as his blocking abilities.

But my question was more about how much of a weapon will he be in the passing game. I think we could probably both agree that Howie did not trade for him for his blocking ability.

He looks like a damn big threat to me… Am I wrong?

One was cheap and the other is an alleged R word.  They both sucked either way.
