1-11 in my last 12. Jack Fritz was pretty angry. Jon Marks was completely obliterated.

Hopefully Topper will be forced to let Wheeler ride after blowing out his bullpen in total panic mode tonight.  His constant quick hooks when a pitcher is rolling are getting old.

Going to find out a lot about this team tomorrow. Castellanos said earlier in the playoffs they respond to getting punched in the face. You got punched in the face two games in a row and you’re facing their ace in their stadium where he’s been phenomenal. You’re gonna know whether or not this team is winning this series tomorrow. If they lose they’re not winning the series. I don’t care that they’re going back to Philly. Your bullpen right now is basically Alvarado and Hoffman. Occasionally Dominguez.

He isn't good in tight playoff games. Wasn't against Houston, lost the Braves game, cost them tonight.

Are Alvarado and Hoffman even available tomorrow?  If so how effective will they be after being used up the last two games?

We need Wheeler to go long innings and the manager to not pull him early for a blown out pen.

The issues with the pens are neither team is going to have their guys at 100%. The Diamondbacks went through all their guys. The Phillies went through all their guys. The only two guys didn’t get used tonight that should be fresh are Walker and Lorenzen

The issue is Zach Gallen is phenomenal at home. His ERA at home is 2.47. On the road. It’s 4.42. So you’re likely getting a game similar to game three. The issue is the Phillies bullpen every game (even when they’ve won) can’t consistently throw strikes. Every count seems to be 2-0 or 3-1. 

Even if they win this series, I don’t think they have enough to get past the next round. This offense the way it’s going now is going to get smoked by that Astros staff and their bullpen is pretty good too. And the way this bullpen is leaking oil, if they’re struggling with this Dbacks lineup, man oh man they’re in for some hurt against that Astros lineup.

Unless the Astros lose both games at home, which is possible I guess because they suck at home for some reason. But Texas is no slouch either.

It’s pretty tough to have a "bullpen game” when Thompson has no idea how to use his bullpen.  How many Phillies pitchers pitched well tonight?  Hoffman, Strahm, Dominguez ….. that was pretty much it?  Kerkering was terrible yesterday, so Thompson can’t wait to throw him back out there today.  Kimbrel has been awful for how long?  Thompson not only trots him out there again, but leaves him in far too long.  Meanwhile, Walker won 15 games this season and he’s covered in mothballs and spider webs he’s used so rarely.

The Phillies don’t even have a bonafide closer right now.  Hard to win playoff games on the road when you have no one you can count on to get the last 3-6 outs, under pressure.  Kimbrel needs to be shut down for the year.  He’s 1993 Mitch Williams, and 10:1 odds the Phillies lose as soon as he enters a game.  
 

Get 6 innings out of the starters — whatever it takes — then Hoffman, Dominguez, Alvarado in some sequence.  It’s their only chance.  
 

Couldn't help but notice another solo HR from Schwarber; wouldn’t it be something to have him come to the plate with guys on base.  If only there was a way to do that ……

Last thought before bed. The Phils had the advantage of having an actual starter going tonight vs a team that was doing purely a bullpen game and he negated that advantage by for some idiotic reason pulling Sanchez out in the 3rd inning. On a game where they had to preserve the bullpen considering they were playing 3 days in a row. It was an incomprehensible decision.

This dude’s stubbornness is going to be their end. Guarantee he was planning on pulling the guy in the 3rd no matter what. Managers and coaches stuck in their ways and who refuse to adapt have always been a peeve of mine. I’ve never seen a manager so stubborn. And Bohm and Stott could’ve been 0 for their last 200 and they’d still be hitting 4 and 5 for the rest of the playoffs.

Also the dbacks heard what stubbs said and have been using it as motivation according to their manager. So you can thank the backup catcher for being a dope and running his mouth. I don’t think that’s the reason they are losing but you didn’t need to say anything and give a wounded team any motivation going home. 

that said i don’t see them winning tomorrow even with wheeler. Gallen is really good at home and the Phillies have lost 5 straight road starts by wheeler. The Phillies just play like crap in this stadium. Really have for much of the last decade. The series earlier this year was an outlier and 3 of the 4 games were 1 run games so it was close just like these two. They benefitted winning 2 of the 3 1-run games that series.  Just like this time they are on the negative side losing the last 2.

I’m aware of that.  Part of the reason is the competition they’ve faced.  This dline is due for a big sack game and hopefully this is the time

They have a near catastrophic loss of momentum and the pitching matchups have flipped a 180 on them.
