Let me just say I don’t think they would ever do it but I think sometimes you have to think outside of the box to try something when you’re in the situation. So I was sitting there talking to Jack and jon. I said this game if you win this game, you are up 3 to 1 and makes game five still important, not the end of the world if you lose it. as you are still going home up 3-2 with nola for game 6 and game 7 ranger vs. rookie for the dbacks (second time they’ve seen him) in CBP. So odds in the Phillies favor. Again, it sounds crazy, but I almost thought you should probably see if you could get wheeler to get the six outs. If wheeler get you those six outs, you’re basically in the same position you’re going to be at now if he wins tonight.

Furthermore, if he got the six outs and you won last night, there’s a chance if it goes to a game seven since he only had a pitched for six outs that you could use him in Ranger Suárez in that game. so with my bullpen being as bad as it is right now and I can’t trust Craig Kimbrel I might take that leap of faith to just put myself up 3 to 1 and figure out game 5 with lorenzen and walker and try to win that way.

granted, I don’t think they do it at all and it could have the negative consequence where he couldn’t get the six outs. But I trust Zack Wheeler like the giants trusted Madison Bumgarner when he was doing that for the Giants.

Taijuan Walker says Hi.  Lorenzen says Hi.   These guys can't be worse AND they are fresh.  Let them throw.   For that matter pulling Sanchez when he did was a mistake.  Sanchez was pitching fine.  He's shown tenacity and the ability to eat some innings without giving up a ton of runs.  Let him save the bullpen.  No reason to make the bullpen work so much in that game.  OR... have Walker backing up Sanchez... and get 3 innings from both guys... Trouble with Walker is when he's off, its his first inning that's off, then he settles in.   But, you could have ridden that out.

The new way baseball is played drives me nuts.  The starters get clipped off too quickly and then the bullpen gets taxed too much.  It happens every year to every team.  At some point a manager will have the guts to buck that trend and actually consider 4 starters in the playoffs and let them actually THROW.  OR put your starters that you aren't going to use into the bullpen... and then (get this crazy idea)... actually USE THEM.

Would have been wild had they tried it - probably would have worked too

You'll know by the 2nd inning tonight if the Phillies are going to be able to get to Gallen at all. If they come out hacking and flailing, be prepared to come back down 3-2 needing to win both at home.

Didn’t think they ever would but it was an option especially with Thomson saying Ranger might be used tonight. I just thought the Giants about a decade ago now did that with Bumgarner. They were like we’re gonna ride him until the wheels fall off and if we lose we are going down with our best guy. I probably would’ve tried it. Because if I win then game five is still meaningful but if you don’t win it, I’m still in the driver seat for the next two games at Citizens Bank Park up 3 to 2.

Yeah doesn’t make much sense to pull a starter if he’s still within the first 2 times through the lineup; throwing solid.  If a starter is throwing well, he should face at least 18 batters and more if he’s throwing really well.

Lee Corso...it's time. Loved watching him for years and years. Painful to watch him try to get a coherent sentence out.

Nothing sadder.    Dick Clark's final New Year's Eve was about as painful a thing to witness as anything ever broadcast on TV as a 'celebration'.

Yep.  Huge game for Penn State today - possibly the biggest in years.  A win today in Ohio solidifies them as a top 2-3 team in the nation.   WE ARE….

He didn't even make a prediction, they kind of just handed him the Brutus head. Didn't do his wave or anything. Declining by the week.

I don't watch the pregame shows... but I remember him well.  He made quite a career for himself as an analyst as a less than 0.500 coach at both NCAA and USFL levels.

Time for eight hours of not leaving the couch. Penn St @ Ohio State then Tennessee @ Bama

I used to watch them religiously. College football Saturdays were one of my favorite things, from the pregame shows to the games all day. Don't watch the shows anymore but tuned in as he made the pick.

Well already on mute. Joel Klatt is pretty much an Ohio State Booster and if the other guy says "Mazzeratiiiiii" one more time I'm losing my lunch.

Yeah pretty biased so far.  Announcers sounded completely deflated when Penn State stopped Ohio State, forcing them to kick the FG.

Fox loves them Buckeyes. Klatt also said we went three and out when we didn't.

One quarter in and Michigan is gonna beat the crap out of both these teams

You know Gus Johnson is gonna blow his load over every move Marvin Harrison does. The Maserati thing is new though.

Guess we'll find out. Because they haven't really played anyone yet.

Yes. Run the ball.

You do realize Michigan has a better SOS than PSU prior to todays game, but good try. Michigan is just better than these teams especially in the trenches.

Hackenberg 2.0 aint it

I didn't say we had played anyone before today either. Neither has Michigan. When your best win is Rutgers, you haven't been tested. Difference is im not sitting here saying you'll roll over two teams after seeing two possessions. That's just moronic..

BTW has Harbaugh stopped cheating yet?

Are they?  Do they have scouts in attendance in Columbus today to steal their signs too?

Eagles section:
" Eagles general manager Howie Roseman always has some magic up his sleeve, and he’s been working the phone. The Eagles are apparently staying put on running back Rashaad Penny, knowing depth will be necessary for a team that should be making a long postseason run. Philly is looking to make some additions on defense after they suffered a handful of injuries in the defensive backfield, specifically targeting a safety. "
