They lost to an inferior team, which is proven by the fact they outscored the D-Backs by 9 runs over the 7 games.  They just choked in almost all of the clutch / close situations.  This is an epic collapse on the level of the Sixers losing to the Hawks in 2021.

Philly teams are the masters of choking in the clutch.

The Dbacks had a total net runs of -15 over the 162.    In other words... they are just not a good team.   Their 'expected' wins total based on net runs is sub-0.500.   What they are doing, I believe, is historical.  I don't think there has ever been a team to make the WS with a negative run differential in the regular season OR the League Championship series.

Thinking more about it -- Scott gets cut (has to be on roster for 3 weeks, so 2 to go) and Street stays. So Albert O, Scott and Johnson are the victims.

The Phils are a more talented team, but I don't agree with measuring it by the run differential in the series. They won game 2 10-0, that accounts for the differential. The Phillies talent is vastly overrated though, and streaky. They have several guys on the team who are hot and cold and that's part of it. They make a lot of mistakes, they aren't a disciplined team. Can't just evaluate them as players when they're hot, you have to account for the fact that they will go cold at some point. And they're more likely to go cold in a long series where the other team has time to adjust. They stopped throwing the Phillies stuff over the plate. Last night, all breaking balls on the corners and the Phillies swung over it all game long. Calling it "choking" is from a Philly fan perspective. I'm sure Dbacks fans are saying they figured out the Phillies hitters, their weaknesses and knew how to pitch to them to expose them.

And Philly isn't unique in any of this.  Every team that loses a playoff series in any sport will do things in games or series that are blown opportunities, it is what it is.

The Dbacks outplayed them. The Phillies are a flawed, predictable, overrated team that went up against a team just good enough to expose their weaknesses. The talent on the roster doesn't matter, sports is about matchups and exploiting weaknesses. They did it better.

I think this is right. Evans/Brown can probably play slot in a pinch if Roby goes down again. No need to carry 7 corners, Johnson has exclusively played STs, and Albert O hasn't done anything.

So, absent anyone else going on IR, we're going to have to make 3-4 cuts: Jurgens back from IR, Evans back from IR, Julio to the 53 and Watkins back from IR (though maybe he stays stashed on IR). I would stash Watkins, but that leaves 3 cuts. I'd have to think they keep all 7 corners on the team - Roby is best for the slot, and you can't risk losing Ringo. One of the tight ends gets cut -- I think it will be Albert O. Jurgens coming back gets you to 9 OL, but I think they carry all of them. I think we cut Street because he is more likely to get to the PS than Ojomo. But that still leaves one more. And I'm thinking...it's Penny or Patrick Johnson.

With Evans and Roby back, Scott becomes redundant. We kicked the tires on Penny, but he's either too washed up to push Gainwell and Scott to play, or he's not 100% healthy, but either way, I think he's gone too. Not sure about the third, could be Johnson or a TE like you said.

If they don't sign Julio to 53 before bye and Jurgens is the only activation then they buy time to see if other injuries occur.

Scott was one of the best players on defense against the Dolphins. I'm not a fan of his but credit when due, guy played really well. Will be interesting to see how CB plays out.

 That's cool as F.

It is awesome being on the field. Happened for me against the Cardinals when McNabb broke his ankle. My cousin's wife's father used to drive the injury cart for the Eagles that was shaped like the helmet back in the day so we got to be on the sideline for the whole game. It was amazing. However, my mojo probably made him break his ankle, so...never again.

10 years is a pretty long time in the NFL. A lot of those guys were good players who just had careers cut short by injury or due to the position they play.

The Phils beat a superior team and lost to an inferior one. Big picture theyre right where they should have been.  They were red hot and cooled off.

MLB was myopic and foolish to expand the playoffs. To try and accommodate the playoff interests of 1-2 more fan bases isnt worth having your best teams come out flat and destroying your World Series ratings.

Baseball is also too randomized for short duration series.  We dont need more teams in the mix.  Its dumb and I guarantee theyre regretting it because the World Series will be one of the worst ever.

By accident, too

I said it before the game, Slay’s still got his speed and we needed it against Miami

Would have loved Kyle Long or Ezekiel Ansah

Curious how many drafts would have that 10 years later.   10 years is an eternity in the NFL.

What in the world does this array of numbers mean?   Looks like a bunch of Madden ratings to me.
