No, but similar. It was more of a gator flatbed with a midnight green helmet over the cab section. I'll have to try and find a pic.

I actually support Thomson on the decision of not using walker out of the bullpen. you know what walker’s first inning ERA is on the year? 7.04. He had that issue from his first start with the Phillies til the last start of the year. I’m not exactly thrilled at the fact that I would have to bring walker out of the bullpen knowing that. Walker wants to know why he wasn’t used out of the pen, it is because he had 6 months to figure out how to pitch in the first inning and he was just as bad from his first start to his last in the first inning. Really hard after 162 games and 6 months when you see Walker being a disaster in the 1st inning all year then just assume in the playoffs he’s going to come in out of the bullpen and be good in the 1st inning when he hasn’t done that all year.

If not Walker then Lorenzen was sitting there as well. It made little sense to go Hoffman that early when he had people who could have sucked up multiple innings in that game.

Sounds like a perfect verse for the Cardinals

Gotta be honest, I'm tired of the cryptic and evasive injury update shtick with this team.

That competitive advantage lol

The Bears injury happened like 8 yards past the LOS but yea, sure.

It had the old school facemask with the bar down the middle and the smoothie hubcaps.

The proper narrative is, the longer you hold onto the ball, the more you get injured.  That holds true whether you're a running (dual threat) QB or a QB like Andrew Luck or Wentz who holds the ball in the pocket.

The decision to use Sanchez was inherently flawed because they were never going to use him beyond 3 innings.  They used it as a "bullpen game" instead of using their 4th starter (Walker) as a starter.  I'd argue Walker should have been in the rotation before Ranger, but Ranger didn't hurt them beyond not being used long enough, so that stance is moot.

A playoff team's 4th starter was always used historically in the playoffs as long relief.  If the Phillies wanted to get into goofy analytics then they could have used Sanchez for two innings, then Walker is first up for long relief for the next 4-5 innings.  That solves your first inning high ERA dilemma and saves your bullpen arms.  Analytics, however, does not hold up against significant historical data that proves 1) The more you use your bullpen, the less effective they become, and  2) When Kimbrel starts pitching like Mitch Williams -- sit him the F down for the year.

They weren’t gonna let Walker or Sanchez go more than 3 or maybe four innings. That wasn’t just strictly because it was Sanchez. That is the analytics decision that the Phillies made with the second time through the lineup for Sanchez/walker, which is stupid especially when you guys are pitching OK. They had an advantage of a starter who has been pretty this year and rode him to at least 5 and decided their bullpen particularly kimbrel which was leaking in September was good enough.

Sanchez might’ve been their second best pitcher the entire year after he got called up. he definitely was the most consistent outside of wheeler. He had 3.44 era in 100IP this year. That was a better era than Ranger, Walker, nola and even wheeler. Heck his september was even better. He had a 3.33 ERA and averaged 6Ks a game. Meanwhile walker was a disaster. He had a 5.93 ERA in September and out of the 5 starts he gave up 4 or More runs in 4 of the 5.  Walker was trending in the wrong direction. So with those numbers they were never  starting walker over Sanchez. Im guessing the bullpen session showed walker still had issues with control and velocity was down since July

That doesn’t solve walker’s problem. He’s bad in the first inning that he pitches. This isn’t correlated just to the very first inning of the game. This is correlated to the first inning he makes it out to the mound cause his control is an issue early in the game. His walks are ridiculously high in the first two innings of the games he pitches. And in the postseason that’ll absolutely bite you. If they were going to do a longer reliever, it probably should’ve been Michael Lorenzen. Because Lorenzen has pitched out of the bullpen before. This year he became a starter. So he knows what it’s like to go from the bullpen into a game. Walker does not have that experience and you are flirting with disaster just assuming because he comes into the game in the 3rd-5th inning he’s not going to have his issues which stem from he’s wild the first inning he’s out there and takes him an innings (Sometimes two) to settle down.

@mattwill

Eagles 27, Burgundy Bums 14

Bonus -- Bradberry INT, AJ Brown 125+ yards receiving

I'd like to see Desai use lots of blitzing this Sunday.  Not because they need to blitz to generate pressure, but because Howell looked lost and confused every time Wink Martindale brought extra Giants pass rushers.

@mattwill Eagles win 30-13

Bonus: Byard INT

I've only scanned the first few pages of this Cowboys board thread, which was started on Sunday, but it ought to be a fun read. In the little that Iv'e read, they seem to be viewing things in a realist sort of way and not through the rose colored glasses of a blind fan.

Frankly probably should’ve used strahm as the long reliever with how good he was in the postseason. It’s why he was the 5th starter for a while this year (cause he was capable of going 3-4 innings) until they got Sanchez up. Cause he’s done it before. He only pitched an inning in game 4. and he didn’t pitch the day before so he was on 2 full days rest. Would’ve likely eliminated him from game 5 but really could’ve closed it out wih Alvarado in game 5 for an inning or even Suarez who was said to be available for an inning.

Id have been fine with lorenzen too. I think his issue at the end of the year was that he had pitched a career high innings and needed time off. Cause you saw in game 6 he looked much better with his stuff then he did a couple weeks back (granted small sample size).

The problem with Walker has been the same all year. His first inning he pitches has been bad and his first two innings he’s super wild where he walks a lot of guys. So if the Phillies are going to use their  stupid analytics approach in game 4 about one time through the lineup and then seeing where they are at, he’s gonna be through the lineup one time by the 2nd inning. That’s been his MO.  He tends to settle in once he finds a groove which has been around the 3rd inning mark or around 45-50 pitches. This doesn’t add the fact for his career his second half he completely dropped off from what he was in the first half. His velocity was way down from where he was in June to where he was in September. That was another issue.

my issue is walker wasn’t the savior or answer. He was bad in September. The worst starter on the staff who had 5 or more starts that month. His velocity was down so much they purposefully found ways to skip his starts mid august to the end of august trying to see if that would help and it didn’t in September. He had the same control issue his first two innings, velocity was down and his era was actually up. Frankly, I thought in September they should’ve had Connor Brogdon on the roster. Seen what he looked like that month situationally. Because the likelihood was you weren’t going to use walker (and they didn’t in the postseason for all the things I’ve mentioned). So if Connor Brogdon looked good, then you could’ve replaced Walker on at least the WC and NLDS roster and had another bullpen piece.

The truth is even funnier: "[Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”]* They divided his garments by casting lots.r"

(1) I think the Cardinals know exactly what they are doing.  You're not very good, and they are ready to move on.

(2) I, for one, am not interested in dividing up your garments.  You can keep those, bro.

@mattwill 32-20 Eagles

I'm so consistently wrong at picking what the defense will do, buuut I think the D has arrived and is gonna show off Sunday.

"Cobra" Commanders - 9, Eagles 27

Bonus: Eagles D gets 6+ sacks.

@mattwill

I know highly unlikely but acquiring someone like Patrick Surtain seems like a Howie move.  Getting someone young and an elite talent like at position that is highly valued by the Eagles.  What do you think it would cost?  1st and 2nd this year and 2nd next?

The Dbacks had a total net runs of -15 over the 162.    In other words... they are just not a good team.   Their 'expected' wins total based on net runs is sub-0.500.   What they are doing, I believe, is historical.  I don't think there has ever been a team to make the WS with a negative run differential in the regular season OR the League Championship series.

Well coached.  Excellent Defense.  I feel like they are the baseball version of the 2000 Ravens
