I think they're actually pretty funny on the podcast. The back and forth banter when they were discussing the tush push this week had me cracking up.

I don't listen to the podcast but I've heard clips here and there and I'll agree, Travis sounds his best when talking with Jason. The thing with TK is it's just overkill right now. You can't turn on the TV without seeing him in an ad or hearing his name. I opened twitter this morning and the first ad on my feed was Experian, featuring TK.

I'm not sure if it's always been this way or if I'm just more aware but it seems like in this social media fed world, the current person/thing is fed to us in overkill. Is it  because they think consumers are so dumb they need to be conditioned to accept things by making it impossible to escape? It's not just TK but he's a perfect current example of someone that is in our face 24/7. There's no such thing as moderation anymore.

The Flyers were never tanking. All the moves they made in the off-season were to improve in 2026, 2027, etc. At the same time, they have a ton of kids who want to make the NHL or veterans who are contract-extension eligible next year. They all have incentive to play hard.

Besides, a playoff run is good for the kids to know what the goal is.

Yeah I saw a LOT of pushing and shoving. Despite all of that if Godwin had turned around for the ball he might have been able to catch it.

That's normal in a Hail Mary situation.  I don't think I've ever seen a PI called either way on a Hail Mary ever.

Yup.  There's a massive difference between 'tanking' and 'youth movement'.   The Flyers are absolutely in the middle of a giant youth movement, and they aren't going to throw a kid out there too soon and hurt his confidence, but... if there is a talented young player that can step in and benefit from NHL playing time, they are going to give it to them.  And that's the fun part about a youth movement, rather than tanking.   With a youth movement, you have some talented players out there that are capable of making plays, but are also capable of making boneheaded moments due to lack of experience and night to night you never know which you'll get.  Tanking is just putting garbage on your roster to have a roster.

This Flyers team is going to bust it hard every night, because that is what hungry young players will do AND that's what Tortorella demands.   If you don't bust it, you'll lose ice time.

You're actually right, I agree everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even when they're wrong.

It's weird. This is the most fun and likable Flyers team since...2016?  Torts is a hard-ass, but he's a fair hard-ass. You play hard, you play. You don't play hard, you sit. If you play hard, but have fun, I'm still good.

That's how it needs to be with a young team, though.   Incentivize the hustle.  More hustle = more ice time.  Reward quality play, and remove ice time for mental mistakes (not physical ones).  Make it a pure meritocracy.  You play based on how much you earn to play, not your contract, not your draft status, but 100% your play.

Glad they are working hard but let’s be serious, this team is not making a playoff run. I doubt they make the playoffs and if they do, they are one and done. I prefer for them to lose as many games as possible but be competitive in as many of those loses as possible. You gotta hope that their #1 pick who is crushing the KHL right now is legit. Hope to hit on the next couple drafts and trade Hart/Coots soon if possible.

Nothing like being in on game 1 of a season largely predicted to be a big step back season from years past.  Most Phillies fans would never.

No they are.

They are just over .500 early in the season.  They started the season similarly last year.  They aren't trying to contend this year.  They are going through a long term rebuild and it is what they should be doing.

I'm going to disagree on trading Hart.  He's 25 years old.   When the team comes of age, he'll be 28-33... prime age for a goalie.  No need to trade him in hopes of finding someone as good as him.  You ride this with him and you have a major part of the team already in place.

I suspect the social media thing will be algo led. They know you like NFL/Kelce, so hey, here's an ad for Taco Bell because TK is in it, etc.

But watching occasional legit NFL video, TK seems to be the new Baker Mayfield...  Boring

I am not nearly as enamored with him as most people are.  I don't see him as a top 5-7 goalie in the league.  He lets in too many soft goals.  Also, by keeping him, we will win more games than we should, thus prolonging this mediocre status of this team.  Sell him now and get a haul.  Maybe a couple younger prospects and a lot of high picks to work with the next couple drafts.

If the rebuild goes perfectly, he can potentially be your goalie at the end of it.  If there are delays, he’s not aligned with the rest of the team.  I wouldn’t force a trade, but if the right offer comes along that can furnish the rebuild, I wouldn’t hesitate either.

The Phillies have been on both the winning and losing end of this, so I don’t say this from a place of bias; baseball has a regular season problem.

What’s the point of hanging in there for 162 games when all you need to do is make the playoffs?

Kind of funny.  This was the charge Tucker took on Giannis in the first half which was of course called a block.  This wasn't even as bad as the one in the 2nd half which was the most blatant charge that they called a block.  Nurse challenged it and after a long time the refs came back and said it wasn't a block or charge because it was "marginal contact".  The ref you can tell was choked up when trying to deliver the message about it being a no call.

Podcast starts by talking about the Eagles, Tyreek said Eli Ricks consistently maintained leverage with a safety over the top, one of the reasons Hill was neutralized

Yeah... its kind of like a QB in the NFL.   But, getting rid of one that's worth having around leads to the trouble we've had with the position since they shipped off Bobrovski, whom I desperately wanted to keep around.   Goaltenders are the single hardest position to fill if you need one in the NHL.  Trading away a young goalie like him better return a king's ransom, selling him for 70 cents on the dollar as your first post seemed to suggest would be a horrible move by this organization.  But, if a team wants to overpay for him, that's what its going to have to take, because I have no guarantee that I can have as good a goalie in place when this team is finally ready.   The draft process in the NHL isn't quite the same as the NFL.  Later picks can absolutely turn into studs and the pool for drafting is just way way bigger with all of the international players.  Losing 4 or 5 slots in the NHL draft isn't nearly the same as losing 4 or 5 slots in the NFL, especially at the top of the first round.  And more importantly, when they made the decision to bring in Tortorella, that alone meant that they weren't going to be a bottom feeder team, because he will never allow that, so the team was always going to be playing above their skill level.  So, instead of drafting in the top 5, they were always going to be somewhere around the middle.  And personally, I'd be very happy with them making the playoffs, even as early as this year and getting a taste for playoff hockey.  It would almost definitely be a first round exit, but that's still something to build on.  What you are proposing in the trade of Couts and Hart is basically a tank year.  I'm all for trading them, at the deadline, and for the right price (overpays), but not interested in trading them just to lose more games.  I have no interest in that.

The Ebb and flow of the rivalry is crazy.

From 1930 through the end of the 80s, they were up 63-42 (0.600), with most of the gap created in the 70s and 80s.

But starting in 1990 to today, we owned the series to the tune of 42-26 (0.617).
