Terron Armistead and Dave Bahktieri (sp?) are two guys drafted later off the top my head… if Stout doesn’t go the undrafted route. Tough to find future HoFers though…

You can absolutely get OTs late in the draft. The difference is that they're not normally year 1 starters. They need some development.

Unless you were a German historian. In that case the saying was, "Armies march on crystal meth."

Lane's replacement is not coming in the form of a draft pick in the 20s, I'd put money on that.  Let's look at their tackles and what the Eagles invested in them.

-Jason Peters was acquired for a 1st round pick.

-Lane Johnson was a top 5 draft pick

-Tra Thomas was the 11th pick in the draft

-Jon Runyan was a huge FA signing and changed the culture of the team

-Jordan Mailata was a 7th round pick (we all know they won't get that lucky again)

-Andre Dillard was picked at 22 (traded up for him too)

What this tells me is that unless the Eagles are in the top 10 again, they will look at other ways to bring in their next RT.

You're making the case opposite case with your example.

Peters was acquired with pick 28.

Thomas and Lane, especially Thomas, were acquired in the draft range the Eagles could get up to with additional picks.

Dillard was an objectively bad pick, but it seems like you're using that as some kind of trump card that you might as well trade every pick in the 20s for veteran players.

And yes those "other ways" almost all require premium draft capital, unless you're hitting on an super athlete project again which isn't likely.

Good year for OT prospects.

Drafting an OT high in the next draft makes a ton of sense.  You can replace Driscoll as the swing T and give someone time to develop under Stoutland - while not reaching in a raft for one (Dillard).

Don't worry about who we're taking in RD1 next year. We're likely trading down anyway.

Yup. Great class.

spending a first on a future RT wont be glamorous but its smart if you like a prospect

There's a 100% chance that next year when describing the draft class Howie says they consider Kelee Ringo like he's part of the class except they've had a year to develop him already

It’s a ludicrous notion that the only way they can get a RT through the draft is top 10. That’s where they got one of their OL once. They can hit on a guy at the end of rd 1. That does happen

I think it’s just a slight misinterpretation.  Over the year, the Eagles have demonstrated a commitment to big investments and not settling for less at OT, RT included.  All pro RTs aren’t easy to come by, so it’s natural to think top 10 pick.  But that’s obviously not the only way to do it.  Explosive raw talents are available in rounds 2 and down and I figure that’s the route they’ll go.  Get a big talent who isn’t ready to contribute and therefore doesn’t go top 10, and let him learn from the best.

Watched the replay of the last Foreskins game last night.  I'm still annoyed by the thinking behind the last TD.  Great play, but stupid strategy.  Should have run the ball, burned the clock, and then kicked a field goal to end it.  Ignoring the clock and choosing a big play/quick strike strategy gave them the chance to come back.  That came pretty close to costing us the game.  In the press, the team defended the decision.  But they were wrong.  I hope that, behind closed doors, they learned the lesson.  At that point in the game, the clock matters.

Even if you have total confidence that the D will get the stop - it’s multiple opportunities for somebody to get hurt (killing the clock is kind of safe in that regard).

Is it his hamstring?  I thought there were reports this week of it being his ankle?

Why though?  They have a lot of draft picks unless you're implying they are going to trade some here for players before the deadline.

I believe this is last year for Kelce, Graham and Cox. As opposed to many posters here, I believe Milton Williams stays here medium to long term with Cox leaving. Won't need to reup Carter or Davis for about 3 years, so they are pretty cheap for now. So we need him to play a bunch of snaps especially considering we like a 5 man front and Jordan Davis will need a breather and may not be a Fletcher Cox type workhorse. I could see 3 years for 30-35M for him.

Think Lane has about 3 good years left in him with proper handling. Not sure they need to address replacement this year, but would like to add another prospect like Steen for at minimum, more depth. Have faith Stout will develop someone competent there to fill in, in the meantime. Cuz Driscoll ain't it. Can see Howie going into free agency or trade for Lane's eventual replacement when the time comes.

Like to see Howie go into free agency this offseason for right guard, if and when Kelce retires this offseason. Would target Onwenu from Pats and see if he can be Brandon Brooks 2.0, as he turns 26 next year. The bonus is he can play right tackle as well if injuries come to Lane.
