EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

Yesterday had trap written all over it. First, we were between kelly green national game against media darling Dolphins AND the biggest game of the year against the Boys. Second, it was a divisional game. Third, Wash matches up really well with us and always plays us tough. Fourth, Wash was desperate and coming off an embarrassing loss.

Wow; no. A LB worth a mid/high 2nd rounder is a LB on or soon to be on a 20m$ a year contract. Howie would rather burn at the stake

Yeah would have to be a pass rusher not off ball for that type of investment.

I'd keep Cunningham and Morrow as starters. Dean is looking like a backup as far as the eye test goes. Morrow and Cunningham have plenty of plays this year and just show up. Yes, I would grab a vet LB for depth at worst. Screwed if we get an injury there.

OK, I've convinced myself. The supply of pass rushers available is large (Hunter, Sweat, Montez, Burns). Let's build on a strength.

I wonder what Hunter would cost? 29 year old DE rental? 4th? 3rd?

EDIT: Even our 2nd might be worth it, since we'd get a 3rd as a comp pick when he walks. Replacing Barnett and Graham's snaps with Hunter...our 2024 2nd for Hunter and a 2024 6th?

A 2nd seems like too much for 1/2 season rental.  But, damn, he would take our pass rush to the next level.

Yeah, but getting that comp pick would help offset it. I'd be talking to Minny, Washington and Carolina. We don't have a 3rd to trade (can't trade a comp pick that hasn't been awarded), and hopefully our 2nd is the last pick in the round (towards the end regardless).

He’s wearing a knee brace to protect the bruised bone.  Better protection than pads.  Not going to downplay the injury but no reason to panic at this point.

Well, here's some thoughts after having a night to digest it all.

1. I just can't comprehend why Washington gives us such headaches, but...here we are. They're not a good team, and I do wonder if the D in particular is easing up thinking it should be a cakewalk. I just can't really reconcile the defensive performances over the last 2 weeks -- hold an all-time offense to 10 points, then let Sam Howell carve us up for the 2nd time this year.

I want to say "Well, they do have good WRs and our pass defense is our biggest weakness right now"..... but we handled Miami.

Hell, even Brian Robinson did work and we unusually shut down WRs.

And they were averaging 6 sacks a game and had no less than 4 all season.  And they almost pitch a shut out on that front.

I think if not this year but next Desai will be a HC and that is 2 2nds as well.

Personally, I'd like Howie to use some of these high picks the same way he used the picks for AJ deal. Slight underpayment in draft compensation due to pending free agency and uncertainty to sign long term. Acquire an ascending young talent and lock them up. Like Ravens did with Roquan last trade deadline. That's the only scenario I want to to trade these high picks. Has to be a long term investment for a young stud. But have to admit with the way Howie is killing the draft. I just want him to finish this retool, with a great 2024 draft for the next dynasty here.

Pretty sure you meant sweat and young and not sweat, Montez as Montez sweat is one and the same

out of those guys i think burns is the best but also cost you the most. Feel like with the commanders if you have a similar deal to someone else they are gonna prefer to go outside of the division in a trade. Hunter probably is the most obtainable if Minnesota is going to go tank mode with cousins hurt.

Whoops. Yeah. Sweat and Young.

I'd prefer Young or Hunter, and agree Washington may not want to deal him in the division. The counter to that is we've already played them twice.

Would be very surprised if we made any substantial moves.

Think it was Byard and that's it.

Divisional games should never be trap games.

Great, now stop turning the damn ball over. Bad teams let you overcome that. The good ones won't as we saw in the SB.

I wouldn't endorse an overpayment, but adding a pro bowl level off-ball linebacker to this team would be a substantial upgrade.

I believe they have the right guys in the secondary.  They just need to learn to play together now.

I see Forbes only got 5 snaps, and he gave up a 20 yard completion to AJ on 3rd and 11 in the 2nd quarter and then a TD to AJ in the 3rd. AJ broke him in the first match up, and he hasn't recovered.

Good point. Injuries and additions every week will cause the miscommunications we saw at times. It's a shame Denver won yesterday. Jewell's price went up.

Did you watch any football yesterday and the QB play around the league? Are maybe 5 really good QBs in the league and we have one of them, how about actually appreciate Hurts instead of ****ing because IT COULD BE A LOT WORSE like a lot worse.

Sure, his turnovers are up, but if you don't trust him to fix it then like just F off.

Cowboys Week Game Score Prediction window is open

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  So far over the course of the season 96 different EMB posters have made at least one prediction.  Given our collective and individual hate for the "Dem Boys" it would be fun to get over 100 predictions recorded for this week's game.  There is plenty of uncertainty.  Will the Defense from the Miami game show up, or will it be the Washington game Defense?  Will the turnovers continue?  Lot's of unknowns.

And you can stop with the we can't say anything without people like you getting butthurt. He needs to stop turning the damn ball over. Period. That doesn't mean anyone wants him gone or doesn't appreciate him. It's going to hurt them again at the wrong damn time like the SB. If you can't deal with that then too bad.

This one is going to be scary...

Good guys - 41

Bad guys - 38

Bonus: no less than 4 lead changes.
2nd bonus: Eagles win on game winning TD drive with under 1 minute left on the clock to take the lead.
