Nothing good about the GOAT coming the division, especially if Harris hires a GM and has BB just coach.

Unless he’s bringing Tom Brady from 2016 in a DeLorean with him, then IDGAF.

Based on the bad defensive performance reported against bunches, it might be even more reason to rely on zone.

From what I've seen so far this year, it looks like (when in man against bunches at least) Desai is having them pre-determine the assignments pre-snap rather than having the DBs route-read post-snap like most DCs do. Curious as to why he isn't giving them some autonomy there.

Feels like since 2018, every time we face Dak (outside of the week 16 game in 2019) that he plays extremely well. Granted one of the 2021 games was against basically backups in the last week of the season. But over that time has 16 tds and 4 ints, completing 73.5% of his passes, averaging 301 passing yards per game and 113.3 Qb rating. Would really love to just completely flip the script and just curb stomp him and cowboys.

Maybe because they've had so many combos out there he wants the newbies to know where other players will be?

You need to be on the same page to "free lance".

A lot of surprises in here. Wild that James Conner is outperforming Ekler/Jacobs.

You're reading the stat wrong. We haven't been down by double digits in 6 straight games (obviously we know this isn't the case this year.) It's that in the game where we are down by double digits, we have won those games 6 times in a row.

It's impressive, and a tribute to his mental toughness. A lot of QBs are front runners, when things are going good they fill up the stat sheet, but when the windows get tight, so does their throat.

We've seen that from opposing QBs a few times this season in the second half after Desai made adjustments.

Hope he does well in Buffalo.

Yeah, possible, I suppose.

Problem solved

Nice deal for him too.

There goes a red phone option...

Tui looks so bad against the run, I'm still interested in getting Suh off the couch.

All kinds of good about Belichick coming to Washington (for the Eagles).

1 - BB is 72.  He's not going to be around for long... which means another quick coaching change for them in the near future.

2 - What has Bill Belicheat ever accomplished without Tom Brady?  He lucked into Brady and somehow found a magic, unsustainable, and unreproducible sauce.  He's nothing without Brady.  Yes, his defenses will be tricky, but still highly beatable, especially with an offense that can't score points.

3 - The master talent evaluator?  Nah, he's a joke when it comes to the draft.   The Pats have one of the worst drafting records of any team in the league.  And Brady was not a master stroke of strategy, but rather a dumb luck lottery ticket that somehow turned into a jackpot for the Pats.  He can't draft at all anymore... it means good players will find their way past him.   His last good draft picks in Round 1 were over a decade ago.   See the list of first rounders since 2000 below.  Is there any wonder why they are so bad right now?

4 - He won't be able to get away with cheating like he did in NE, because the Commish isn't buddy buddy with Josh Harris like he was with Robert Kraft.

Very, VERY few coaches have ever been able to replicate the magic they had with one team into magic with another.   Specifically, not a single HC who has won a Super Bowl with one team has ever gone on to win a Super Bowl with a second team, and there have been a number of them that have tried.  Most have struggled mightily with the new team and, at best, have become playoff contenders.  Mike Shanahan - won with Denver... never could replicate that with Washington.  Dick Vermeil - won with the Rams - never could replicate that with the Chiefs.  Jimmy Johnson - won with Dallas... couldn't do anything in Miami.  Tom Flores won with the Raiders... couldn't get anything done with the Seahawks.  Ditka with the Bears... garbage with the Saints.  Seifert carried on for Walsh with the 49ers, couldn't do anything with the Panthers.  Holmgren with the Packers... got to a Super Bowl with Seattle, but couldn't seal the deal.  Parcells with the Giants, couldn't get it done with the Pats or Dallas.    Parcells and Holmgren are the only two that ever even got a shot at a second SB by getting there.   Watching Doug in Jacksonville, it will be interesting to see if he can bust that trend.   But he's WAY younger than BB, so the odds for him are much higher than BB, and he's already got a playoff caliber team in place in Jax.  BB would be starting from scratch in Washington.

TLDR:  Long story short, I'd LOVE to see BB coach in Washington, especially if they have to give up draft capital to make it happen.  Would be absolutely wonderful.  He'll be mediocre at best for 4 years, then go off into retirement.

Yes…you just described Dak Prescott

Belicheck might be the greatest defensive mind of all-time. His units are always good. He'll make Washington better, but not a playoff team if they don't already have a good QB.

Yes, yes.   But, once again this is a TEAM stat and everyone focuses on the QB.   For a QB to be able to bring the team back from double digits, or to win a game with a 4th quarter comeback... the DEFENSE has to do their job too, but people focus on the QB rather than the TEAM.

For example... after the 2013 season the Eagles make the playoffs and Nick Foles drives the team down the field for a 4th quarter comeback in the playoffs... but whoops, the ST gives up a big return to Darren Sproles, and the defense gets bullied by the Saints offense including multiple QB sneaks which go for 5 or so yards each and the Saints win the game at the end with a FG.   So sad, no 4th quarter comeback for Nick Foles.

Same QB... after the 2017 season, Nick Foles leads the Eagles down the field to take the lead on a great 4th quarter drive to take the lead with a TD.  The defense takes the field and gets a turnover.  The Eagles turn that into a FG as well, and the Eagles hold on to win.... Nick Foles gets credit for a 4th quarter comeback, in the SB no less.

Here's the thing with double digit deficits... it means both the offense and defense aren't doing a great job...  defense is surrendering too many points, and the offense isn't scoring fast enough to keep pace with the opponent.  Then, adjustments are made, changes happen and all of a sudden the defense is getting stops and the offense is converting for points.  BOTH have to happen or else there is no comeback.   It isn't just about the QB.  It's a nice stat and all, but it should be about 'the EAGLES' and not 'Jalen Hurts'.   He's a big part of that, obviously, but he's certainly not the only part.  TEAMS win, TEAMS lose.   TEAMS dig holes for themselves and TEAMS get out of them.  QBs are part of the team.  They are a big part, but they aren't alone.  The QB isn't blocking for himself, the OL is.  The QB isn't throwing the ball to himself, the WRs/TEs/RBs are catching and running with the ball.  The QB isn't converting the FGs...  And the QB certainly isn't playing defense to stop the other team.   Football is the ultimate TEAM sport and while some positions are more important than others... its still a TEAM game and the full roster needs to make the plays required to win the games.

For sure, but that's still a schematic choice. We've seen in the Fangio scheme CBs get wasted because teams would push out their TE/RB to the sidelines and suddenly Slay/Bradberry are covering their #4 option while the offense gets their best options against our safeties and slot CBs.

We choose to not have CBs follow in large part because we want to play a ton of zone and I'm guessing they don't trust Bradberry.

Absolutely they trust Bradberry. The secondary coverage is primarily a Fangio based approach which matches what Wilson did and even to a degree the JJ defenses. Don’t let the big plays beat you.  Problem is that D was a bad match for Edmunds and Edmunds limited the flexibility.  Ricks and Brown’s inexperience in the slot limits the man match that Maddox does so well and Cunningham, Dean and Morrow all need to play downhill.  With Byard so new and Blankenship green and very downhill, the zones had to be loose last week and the disguises that Desai is working in were pretty nonexistent.  One of the analysts said that Belimy (sp) and Howell called a perfect game.  That really wasn’t that challenging. There will be more options this week and much more after the bye.  The secondary coaches are getting to know Byard (they do have film) on him and Ricks and Brown as nickel backs.  They will learn the players and what their strengths and weaknesses are. AND Slay and Bradberry will learn what they can rely on from the Ss.  I am not significantly concerned.

There is good long-term news with Brian Johnson and Desai even though they haven’t been perfect this year. The good news is I doubt either one will be getting a HC job in the offseason. It would be nice to have some continuity at either coordinator spot for the next 2-3 years. Especially on offense with Hurts. They’re still going through their growing pains, even though I think both have been doing an exceptional job overall. And I think one of the two will be here for the next 2-3 years to help with that continuity. The brain drain at coordinator has been frustrating the past several years.

Good idea to trade your two best defensive players for draft picks before hiring a great defensive mind who sucks at drafting
