Really interesting play by the Eagles on third and 3 yards in second quarter drive that ends in a TD. It’s a pony package where Gainwell takes the handoff for the first down. Looks like it’s an RPO where Hurts has the option to flip it to Swift in the flat. Nifty.

A bummer about Dean. The pick in RD3 was worth a shot. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

From here on out, assume Dean is LB 3 for the next 2 years. Will need 2 new starters next year (or resign Cunningham + draft a fast LB).

I'm looking at Morrow as the 8th best LB on pff out of 81.   Pff number over 80.

Can the Eagles get him back cheaply enough?

He's supposed  to be the one who is good at coverage.

Is there someone here with pff who can take a look at the pff numbers of the lbs and break it down for run, pass coverage or blitzing?   I think that Morrow is likely ok or better at coverage, he's the #8 lb overall, and if so, the problem isn't the coverage of lbs.

I'd like to see Vansumeren get out there, because you get your best result if you train the great athlete well.  Vansumeren is a great athlete and he needs to be trained.

Rookie as in their first year in the NFL or their first year starting (but had been rostered on an NFL team prior?) Seems like that's a lot of rookie QBs to all be starting this week. Would like to see the list.

Off the top of my head, Stroud, Richardson, Young, Levis, O'Connell... then who else?

Clayton Tune, Tyson Bagent, Jaren Hall, Tommy DeVito

A few random observations on rewatch…

* Blankenship had a really good game. I’m not sure what people were watching. The TD to Ferguson was just the perfect playcall. Nothing Blankenship could do there except guess pass. He had to read his run key first and after the play fake it was an automatic TD. He had a nice pass break up on Ferguson where he punched it out. He also had decent coverage on Lamb on a third down stop.

* We all know Ricks stinks as a slot, but paying attention to him when he played outside after Slay decided to shadow Lamb… I thought he held up well. He nearly had a pass breakup peeling off his man on a third and long catch by Lamb (with Slay in coverage). It was just before the 4th and 8 stop.

* Swift had two fumbles on two busted plays (I don’t fault him much for the fumble on the collision on Brown), but I thought he was otherwise excellent despite the pedestrian stats. I thought he got more yards than were blocked.

I read a really funny joke on one of the sports websites. Lamar is the frontrunner for MVP

In Lamar's MVP season he had 46 combined TDs and ran for 1200 yards in 15 games. He's on a pace for 26 or 27 TDs this year with 830 yards rushing in 17 games.

Yeah, but his D and kicker are good so MVP. 🤣

I've honestly never given a single thought in my life to Lamar's D.

People decided they don't like Blanketship and so they will pick on him while he plays great. Like a bunch of bozos.

Good news guys

Hall isn't starting this week, neither is Richardson, Tune might not start either. The tweet was incorrect, it's having started a game at any point this season, not this week.

Jack Stoll is a restricted free agent, Goedert has his injury luck, so TE might be a later target (beyond Bowers I’m not seeing anybody in rounds 1-2 and we have bigger issues there anyway).71165C05-8BD3-4F10-A9D3-5B4E60DDD7DC.jpeg.ba3b5aef6c71c8f5de57ad75ad852dc4.jpeg

Underclassmen (draft eligible) will be allowed to participate at the all star games - interesting.

Depending on how the second half of the season plays out, this may be a year for a non QB to win.  AJ Brown and Hill are probably the most dominant players in the NFL right now, with Hill having a major blemish on his resume last week.

At QB, Tua really was the favorite, but he can't be considered if they can't get a single big win against a good team.

I think Blankenship seems like a good guy with a great motor who is fun to root for.  I also think he royally sucks in coverage.

Yep.  Even immediately after the game I thought Reed had a great game.  TATE was tating per usual though.  I left it alone at the time but I’m glad people who actually understand the game agree.

Both starting safeties are gone.  Bradberry, overnight, went from a 2nd team all pro to a legit liability.  And Slay went from a probowler and foundational DB to a quality starter.  Some injuries, but Maddox is always out anyway.

I guess that's how you go from 1 to 32.

The 2022 defense wicked against the pass too anytime it went against a QB worth a damn.

I find the JB and Ricks slot experiments somewhat baffling… these are the leggiest non-slot bodies we have in the DB room.  Has the nature of that position changed so that the default prep is for a big slot/F type TE?

I'm sure a smarter person would know this and Philly media, one for you steal.👋

Be interesting to see how that is broken down by quarter and game situation.  Is the point differential smaller this year, so teams feel more comfortable running, rather than throwing to catch up.

Eli Ricks is a UDFA. He played outside CB his entire college career. The fact that we're asking him to play the slot...against the likes of Cooper Kupp, Jahan Dotson and CeeDee Lamb is just wild. That's a lot for any rookie, let alone one with his profile. Ricks is just too stiff to be a good inside CB. He's more than quick enough to be on the outside without a two-way go.

Slay needed to play inside more on Sunday. Dallas routinely got their best players on Cunningham/Ricks, while we'd put Slay on Tolbert/Ferguson.

Yeah I didn’t understand this either. He’s shown flashes of being good on the outside and at the same time JB had been assigned the slot earlier this year and did ok. Why not have Ricks outside and JB inside?

In man coverage? Zone coverage? Both?
