Watching Carr play football is a uniquely joyless experience.

They really should just move to Jameis. Carr is a game manager who can’t throw it down the field. It’s painfully obvious either his shoulder is still messed up or he’s just basically bad (frankly might be the only thing the raiders got right under mcdaniels). Their offense is basically kamara on dumpoffs and tysom hill. They’ve practically eliminated olave from being the playmaker he was last year.

Hope this isn’t condescending to you but rather a disagreement with your conclusion.  First off, the rules for NFL DBs are far different than anything they dealt with their whole careers. Name another NFL position that is true for.  Only kicker comes close.  That is a strong reason why so many DBs are selected and flame out and why so many succeed that were late round draft choices or UDFAs.  Second take Al Harris.  When he came in, he played outside.  Not all slot receivers are the third best on their team. Frankly, I would grade Maddox above Nelson.  His skills just fit the slot so much better than the outside. Slot isn’t as easy as you think.

The slot (NCB) is different than played in college.  (I would argue S is too.). The receiver size (RBs, TEs and all sorts of receivers), quickness, strength vary.  There is this lazy projection from draft prognosticators that "he is less than ideal size” so he will be a nickel CB in the NFL.  The routes are much varied and the nickel player is asked to do more man match.  Tighter coverage (mirroring) is required in the nickel (slot) position. But unlike their  pre NFL careers , pre throw contact is mostly not allowed. Make up speed matters a lot less in the slot but  some speed is necessary.  But quickness, agility and instinct are the keys.  (Ricks has that as does Brown but they are still learning the routes. (Gaining football IQ). Thinking can be the enemy of quickness. (You saw that with Ricks against Lamb where he was schooled on some moves).  With IQ comes better instinctive movement.  I would argue the most instinct (football IQ too) driven positions on D are the deep S (usually FS), the NCB, SS (although many teams play that interchangeably with Weak and Strong, the positioning impacts the depth) and the ILB (MIKE and WIL) in that order.

Give the coaches and players time to get to know each other. It is so much easier to be instinctive knowing where the help is coming from. Give the young ones time to grow.  Heck, give Roby (on the field) and Byard time to know the playbook.

I just don’t get why you expect a couple of rookies to come out NFL ready.  That’s an unreal expectation.

The Eagles have made expenditures in the backfield.  Failure on Jones hurt and Douglas was wrong for the D they were playing at the time although would be fine at the Bradberry position in the zone heavy D they are playing now. So they traded for Slay and signed Bradberry.  So they invested in McPhearson, who would be fine in the Bradberry position or backing up Maddoxand probably tagged as the future #2 CB.  Ringo at speed CB, if he learns and develops as expected.  People were ecstatic at getting Jobe and Ricks as UDFAs.  Both are pretty decent backups/ST players. Rodgers sitting on suspension to back up Maddox next year.  They will spend more resources on D.  They just did on Byard.

I am interested in McCollum.  DBs don’t come out of SHSU polished but the raw skills are there.  This is his second year (on Texans PS last year).  Has the athleticism to play FS and I think the instincts. Eagles list him as a DB (like they did with Q initially).  My favorite pirate move of the offseason.  I thought he looked good in PS, albeit in scab time because of the Brown, Evans, Edmunds tryouts.

Not sure they have completely given up on Goodrich.  They had Garner taking some S cross training. Frankly, I would be tempted to bulk him up and play him at WIL.  (He’s four pounds lighter than Morrow.)  He is extremely green but still seems a step slow.  I don’t see a fit at CB, including nickel or S.   But he hits like a freight train.  Don’t sleep on Vidor.  Great athleticism but even with NFL experience, still learning.  Bet he gets picked off the PS at some point.

Good stuff. I would add that teams tend to run at small quick slot corners. At least part of what Desai must have had in mind trying Brown at slot corner was because of this. If he can be coached up to being an adequate cover in the slot he will be a tremendous addition to the defense with its light box approach. Peppers was a hybrid S/CB at Michigan where he thrived, just as an exxample.

Not sure what Jax is doing. Just get the 1st down. Damn

Texans might be able to win the afc south. Already beat the jags in Jacksonville. If stroud keep playing this way and their defense plays as solid as they have they got a shot to do it with their schedule (vs. Arizona, vs. jags, vs. Denver, at jets, at titans, vs. Cleveland, vs. titans and at colts)

Imploding.

Ravens might be the best team in the AFC.  I also think the Eagles match-up best with them than any of the other AFC contenders.  It'd be a fun Super Bowl.

They just drafted Dean last year and Ringo this year.

I wouldn’t call them "reaches” though. It’s more of a confirmation that when things seem to good to be true, it probably is.

Hopefully Howie learned his lesson. If you haven’t done the full due diligence on a dropping player, don’t reach.

A similarly soft spoken Andre Dilliard clone is going round 1 in 10/10 drafts and is going top 20 90% of the time.  Only red flag was his age…granted, that matters.

It didn’t work out and he’s a bust, but I still don’t see that as a bad pick at the time.

Damn good catch by Kirk

That's a catch

Derek carr just got hurt in the Vikings/saints game

They git on Stroud and DeMeco looks legit as a HC.  AFC South suddenly has an impressive group of HCs in that division.  Probably the best group of HCs of any division in the league.

The Ravens are the mid November team of the moment, just like SF a month ago…a title they hold quite often.

I would have zero confidence in them stringing together playoff wins.

I said the same thing about a week ago.   Flavor of the month.

Oh look Jameis Winston got the saints on the board with a td and olave isn’t dead

They have the best defense in the NFL.  They have one of the 5 best HCs in the NFL.  Lamar is healthy having another MVP level season.  He has the second highest win percentage among active QBs for a reason.

Jags suck

HAHAHA Jags

Good lord..no help from Jax today

Yea Dillard was the right choice at the time. He was a quality prospect, and our tackle play was becoming very inconsistent. We knew it was time to find Peters replacement. It just didn’t work out & we’re lucky for the patience of our coaching/front office in regards to Mailata and his development

The big game is Lions/Chargers. A Lions loss and we're 2 games up on the entire NFC.

They are the Dallas Cowboys of the AFC.  Their SBs are more recent.  They are consistently good and get overhyped when they hit their mid season peaks.  Their current nucleus never competes in the playoffs, so anyone really should need to see it to believe it at this point.  I won’t think they have legit SB chances until they are already in the AFCCG.

Fing Jacksonville. Thanks for nothing.

Not complaining but why was that TD reversed ?

Mystery penalty?

Refs just took a GD off the board and gave no explanation or specifics.
