They kinda put themselves in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Dean and Cunningham is a bad combo at passing downs but Dean and Morrow is likely just as bad a combo for running downs. Against the Patriots it probably made more sense to put a guy with some size next to Dean since the Patriots were likely to utilize the backs.

Yup, would be nice if the eagles had LBs that could actually do both, but those guys are hard to find, because 31 other teams have those guys...😒

If Gainwell can’t go, does that mean 20 touches for Scott and 3 for Swift?

Also...I 100% agree with Howie's philosophy at RB, LB, and safety.  I was also a big Nakobe Dean supporter in the draft and offseason.  So I'm treading lightly with the criticism.

But when it's week 2 and you are shopping for 2 of 2 starting LB spots on the unemployment line, that is an absolute failure of GM-ing.

Hmmm .... they had TJ Edwards and Kyzir White last season and both left in free agency, where Edwards got $6.5M per year from the Bears and White got $5M per year from the Cards.  Were either of those players worth that money to the Eagles?  Apparently not, because Howie elected to spend the money on retaining Slay and Bradberry, as well as Fletcher Cox.  I would argue all of those guys were a better use of financial resources than Edwards and White, who were "net-neutral" players on defense -- they didn't stand out as being bad, or good.

Nakobe Dean was penned in as a starting LB from the day Edwards left, and beforehand.  The only question was the other LB spot, which went to Cunningham.  When Jack and Cunningham were signed I theorized the Eagles didn't like what they saw from their depth players at LB.  Didn't expect Cunningham to beat out Morrow -- but that's what training camp and preseason is for.  Cunningham won the job, and he's still there.

Peters signed with Seattle.

No way he said that....if he did he would lose his team pretty freaking fast. If he didn't say that the reporter should be stripped of his credentials and banned from any future NFL activities.

McNair's public comments about letting the inmates run the prison were in a similar vein but without any direct referene to race. He died shortly after so it's hard to say what effect, if any, it had on the team but the message almost certainly wasn't well received by the players.

Desai needs to go the Saleh route. Those poor hairs are hanging on for dear life.

Trotter lost out on an anchor chair job at NFLN and had a hissy fit, then made a point of standing up and asking Goodell the same exact question at two consecutive annual NFL media days with the commissioner.  You could tell Goodell had very little use for Trotter as he was answering the question.

Trotter is a knob.  Having said that, I don't have much doubt his recount of what was said is probably factual.  My guess is they weren't said directly to Trotter, but he is attributing it as such.

I think we see a full line change at LB this week -- Morrow and Ellis get the start. Cunningham made some sense against a Pats team that we thought wanted to pound the ball, but the Vikings are more of an air attack. I'd look for Cunningham to maybe be used only in completely obvious run situations. I'm also hoping we see Edmunds instead of Evans.

I’m not saying some of these owners don’t have a "plantation mentality”, but I don’t think they’re that dumb where they would say something as egregious as this in a public setting or to a reporter. Behind closed doors in the country club, maybe.

I have no way of knowing if either said these things, but I am with 95% certainty that neither will face any serious consequences regardless. It is a he said she said situation, and without further proof (like maybe an email or two that may be exposed in the Gruden case) nothing will happen.

No the Gruden case could be a game changer.... who knows what all was in those emails.

He put it in a court filing. That's interesting. It says he "raised complaints and concerns" about the remarks -- let's see if there is any documentation.

I just don't see them starting him this quickly. I'd prefer to just get him on the field, but trying to stay realistic.

EDIT: especially on a short week

I think Morrow moves up the depth chart and starts on Thursday.  The big question is who is beside him... Cunningham or Ellis.

I think they go to Morrow with the green dot, because he was in Desai's system last year.  He knows it.  Cunningham is a late comer to the Eagles, and Ellis is just trying to know his assignments out there.  So, the 'simplest' way to make sure that everyone is on the same page is to use someone who is the most familiar with it... and that's Morrow.

Was he? Morrow was in Chicago and Desai was in Seattle. Unless the Bears used the same system from before when Desai was with them. But that seems unlikely given they had a new regime come in with a defensive head coach.

I have a feeling Brown gets worked in in a hybrid role as the weeks progress.  Kind of like we did with Corey Graham during the SB year.

That's what I've been hoping for.  You gotta get that guy on the field.

That and mixing in some Nolan Smith off ball.  Just get your athletes on the field.

I kind of agree that Morrow should be activated for the game against the Vikings but with only two free activations off the practice squad, presumably for Siposs and Covey, they won't be able to do so. The options then would be to not promote Covey, which while possible I don't expect especially considering how well he did against the Patriots, or put Dean on IR and then sign Morrow or Covey (or Siposs) to the 53-man roster.

But I kinda doubt they'll add Siposs or Covey to the 53 before week four, simply because they don't have to. They sort of "earned" that privilege by waiving them and having them clear waivers.
