Gotcha hopefully you think that short term, asi think long term he's a starting Safety In the league, not just a 3rd, preferably he's a starter sooner than later, Sydney may make some rookie mistakes but if Evans is making rookie mistakes might as well play the rookie who has more upside.

I'm saying perfect world we have Reed & TBD starting with Brown learning his rookie year as 3rd safety. Edmunds and Evans are at best 4th safeties. But yes, please give me Brown starting over either if push comes to shove.

Don't think he ever truly wanted him back that badly. If he did he'd be back. Howie doesn't let guys he values walk because of "Sorry, your money got allocated elsewhere" unless they get grossly overpaid by another team. Which CJ didn't.

Eagles have a payroll hierarchy by position, per organizational philosophy.  It's a "hard" salary cap, and the pie has to be cut up certain ways.

On defense it's:

DT

DE

CB

S

LB

I don't think the Eagles thought they would be able to resign Bradberry; he did the smart thing and took their best and final offer.  There was a short period of time (overnight, IIRC) that the team thought Slay couldn't fit.  It was being reported Slay had been released.  They came together on numbers and Slay returned.

There was only so much money to go around.  CGJ took a harder line on negotiating, and negotiated himself out of town.

But I think ultimately in this league players take the money. If Howie offered him 7.5m guaranteed to top Detroit's 6.5m he'd probably be here. We'll see if that decision was right during the season.

Howie did offer him more than Detroit, earlier in season, CJ turned it down, so Howie said eff off.

Eagles have a longstanding policy  under banner then Howie of offering a player what they feel is fair market and if the player turns it down not going back to the table.

CJ thought he could get more somewhere else he couldn't and left money on the table that Howie offered him.

Like I said CJ and his agent misread the market by a lot and Paid the price.

I'd say that TBD is Brown, I'm not sure who else is out there that could be brought in.

I guess Howie could make a trade but unless it's a 1 year rental why not just start brown?

Maybe, contrary to the movies and TV, the police don’t want to pull out guns and go blazing.  K9 got him.

But... they did have their guns out... they just didn't go blazing... meaning the murderer assailant didn't go guns blazing or threaten them with the .22 rifle that he had in possession. otherwise we know what the outcome would have been let's not kid ourselves here.

They could have afforded him though, it wasn't an impossibility.

The counter to that is "Yes, they could have afforded him, but it would've prevented them from doing something else or keeping someone they wanted to keep down the line" but that's precisely my point.

CJ wasn't considered good enough or important enough by the Eagles to risk losing someone they wanted to keep down the road or risk jamming their cap situation up any more than they wanted it to. When they map out their priorities, he wasn't one of them. To me that suggests they didn't really want him that much. And yes, the safety position factors into that as well. The Eagles don't value the position unless they consider you a rare elite talent.

But my original point was they technically could have afforded him monetarily. They chose cap flexibility over him.

Sure.  Anything can be done if the coaches feel the player is performing to a level where it's warranted.  I just don't think the Eagles will "miss" CGJ all that much, relatively speaking.  They must have felt they would miss their CBs more.

Safety is a very difficult position to evaluate objectively.  Most of us don't have an advanced enough understanding of coverage schemes to judge who is responsible for what zone on every play.  It's made more complex in recent years with there being more hybrid-type DBs, and the fact that DB play is a group effort between 5 guys on a majority of plays.  CGJ was useful in getting takeaways, which is no small skill, but he wasn't ranked very highly in coverage ability.

When Jenkins and McLeod were here I always saw McLeod as the better player, whether subjectively or otherwise.  Jenkins was very good near the LOS but rather useless in downfield coverage -- at least that was my perception.  Unfortunately, McLeod's injuries slowed him up to a point he was deemed expendable shortly after Jenkins.

Howie offered him a deal and then turned his attention to re-signing Bradberry and Slay instead.

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to grass and stadiums. When there are 2 NFL teams using Met Life stadium, would natural grass stand up to that much usage? I do know that players much prefer grass over any artificial turf to date.

It should. The eagles share the link with Temple, don’t they?

I know soccer teams play multiple games per weak and don’t have an issue.

The LA stadium has the rams and chargers.

Over/under 1.5 sacks for Carter?

I'm going with Over.

Baby Rhino gets his first 2-sack game

I’ll take the under. Short week and he was going against a rookie last week.

I’m looking at 7 sacks for Carter this season as a realistic goal.

There's a reason that no one wanted to ante up long term for a safety/slot cb this past offseason in CJG. Well, maybe because he's just not that good. We know he's not a good tackler. Ranked in the bottom on run defense and middle of the pack on pass defense. Yes, he's a ball hawk, but probably over-pursues picks to a fault. And he only did it for 2/3 of a season, so sustainability and durability are question marks too. Yaps a little too much to my liking and thinks he's better than he is. Think Howie played that whole negotiation perfectly and probably made the right choices in free agency in total. In short term, may hurt us as far as stability from last season, but can't screw up your cap with bad signings and picking the wrong guys. Too many players to sign here going forward. Must be be very selective.

Yes.  Temple uses the Linc.  And they do other events as well.

Forgot the defense got a pick six in week 1 last year too.

That's going to be some Roob stat going into next year how the Eagles have opened the season for Teo straight years with an interception returned for a TD.

Boy, Clinton Portis sure looks like the victim here. Good thing the guy in the Ray Lewis jersey got charged with 2nd degree assault. I'm sure there's more to the story but shouldn't the headline at least mention Portis was charged with SOMETHING? There are some who are going to think his behavior is acceptable and if he didn't get charged that they could do that too.

Then you have dude in the McLaurin jersey casually pushing a woman to the ground and another Terry supporter kicking her while she's down.

But let's only mention the guy getting his face smashed in go charged.

Oh and Eagles fans are the worst amiright?

All good points. It will be interesting if the owners/stadium operators listen to player wishes.
