IMO, it should be Swift on 1st/2nd down + Kenny on 3rd down. Kenny is the most reliable blocker/receiver in the group. Kenny also will get the 2 minute drills as he knows the offense the best. That's still a 60-40 split for Swift which should be the goal.

Hmmm ..... this math teacher of yours -- how many fingers were they missing?  Not every set of downs will even get to 3rd down.

I know it’s not Calcaterra or stoll but i wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the eagles use a pick in round 2-3 in the 2024 draft on a tight end to be groomed as an eventual replacement for goedert. Goedert has two years left on his deal after this year. When it runs out after the 2025 season he’ll be 31. He’s great when he plays (run blocking and pass catching) but has had injuries. Could see similar to ertz that they don’t think it’s a wise investment at his age and what he likely wants.

It’s OK somebody stole my thunder when I said yesterday if the eagles can’t get an adequate safety or linebacker at the deadline for a reasonable price then they should really consider going after a third wide receiver to replace Quez walkins. I  said that yesterday morning then someone posted the tweet about Hunter Renfrow.

Geno Smith.

That clip isnt really a fair representation of Genos day.  He played very very well.

I wouldn't take Geno over Hurts right now but Geno deserves respect.  He's a legit top 10-ish starter in the NFL right now.

I debated posting something about the math

I’m not basing that on one play. Even in the preseason he looked like his burst was gone and he clearly lost a step.

We were down to two 2 RBs and the coaches only played Penny because Swift had to go to the sideline for an equipment issue. Coaches don’t want to play him at all, and that’s a big red flag.

Burst looked fine to me behind the backup OL in the preaseason. He's by no means slow if that's what you're implying. Not sure what you're looking for in a 3rd or 4th guy off the bench. If they were as down on him as you say they are, I'm pretty sure he would have been released already.

I mean Albert O is the new Tyree Jackson so there's that.

You just need a few camp reports next season or maybe a 3 catch performance this season.

Kenny gets the 2 minute drill, so that's a bunch of plays including 1st/2nd down.

I get that, but if the other team has the ball then it's 0 plays.

I worry the overemphasis on Swift’s performance.  He was 28 for 175 for a 6.2 yard per carry average against the Vikings. Scott was 5 for 40 for an 8 yard per carry average.  Against that Vikings front with the spy held by Hurts on the RPO, any of the three top backs could have run for a six yard average.  Both were 1 for 3 yards against the Patriots.  Gainwell had a 3.9 yard average on 14 carries against the Pats.  Bucs D is closer to the Pats than the Vikings.

I agree with you min principle, but it is alsoworth remembering that the O-Line was a hot mess in Week One, which depressed the RB numbers.

Ike Reese was a ST standout and captain who served an important role on those AR teams.

Mike Patterson is a good one. Maybe Juqua Parker? I think even he was more productive in his roll than Barnett is and certainly wasn't the penalty waiting to happen.

I guess you forgot the play where Parker/Thomas jumped offside at the end of the game against the Bills on one of those plays where the offense lines up only to try to draw a penalty and will wind up punting when the defense doesn’t jump. He jumped. The Bills ran out the clock instead of the Eagles getting the ball back with a chance. I never forgave him after that because it was so so stupid.

It's not "As I say they are". He was inactive Week 1. He played just 9 offensive snaps Week 2 while only having 2 healthy RB's the majority of the game. Again, the majority of those snaps happened when Swift headed to sideline and had some type of equipment issue. That's not coaches showing they are high on someone.

The Predictions Saloon is open.  For those of you who missed it, the recap of last week is linked at the bottom of this post.  As always pleas tag your submission with @mattwill I have slimmed down my Ignore list, so if you see a prediction from jojodancer or SkippyX please forward it to me with a tag.  That way I will see it and record it.

So far there are 9 predictions recorded with 8 for an Eagles win and 1 for a Bucs win.  Those 9 are

Who said they were high on him? He's a 3rd string 4th string guy at this point. Clearly they don't trust him to carry the load if it's not necessary (likely needs to tighten up his pass-pro more so then a running talent thing). My point is if they didn't like him on the roster he wouldn't be here. He would have gone the way of Sermon. Rare that 4 backs are carried on the roster. Could have easily been a numbers games cut.

Blind faith waiver wire claim pays off. Good insurance policy against my flex backs of Pacheco and Pierce, since they both have had slow starts.

Turnovers battle flips and pts will come at a premium this week, but a last second Elliot FG secures a thrid win in another ugly game. 24-23 good guys

@mattwill

Eagles 24, Bucs 17

More questions about the offense after this one; TB will blitz often and the Eagles will run often.

Bold predictions -- Eagles more rushing yards than passing yards, Baker throws 2 INT.

I'd argue that it was necessary last week and they still didn't trust him. Giving Swift ~30 touches a game is clearly not ideal but we needed a win so I was fine with it in a vacuum. I agree with the sentiment that Penny looks like he's lost a step.

So then lets go back to my original point.

Penny looks just about washed. I don’t see him on the roster for long. He’ll be inactive again when Gainwell and Scott are playing, I wouldn’t be surprised if he asks for a release.

I don't think he's going to be happy with his current role and I don't think the coaches like him enough for anything more than his current role. So I wouldn't be surprised if he asks for a release at some point.

I did forget that one. Thanks for reminding me.

Depends on how hot the market is for RBs. If big time RBs continue to go down he may ask, Eagles don't have to comply. We have our own RB injury issues albeit not major.
