The question of which three legacy players would have the greatest impact if they were brought onto this current team has spawned some interesting dialogue.  One of the key factors that comes into play is "marginal improvement at the position."  For example, Reggie White is pretty clearly the greatest Eagle of all time (his departure to Green Bay not withstanding), but bringing him onto this team as an addition to the current D-Line replacing Derek Barnett would (in my opinion) produce only a modest improvement of the overall team.  Thed same could be said for adding Jerome Brown to the interior D-Line.  On the other hand, bringing Dawkins onto the team replacing Terrell Edmunds or Justin Evans would result in a significant marginal improvement.

The other key issue that colors the choices is how the game has evolved since the respective historical Eagles players played.  Bednarik and Bergey and Trotter were suggested as LB additions/replacements, but the question has been raised "How would their skills match the current game"

So to bring some structure to the discussion I've created the table below with some of the names that have been bandied around.  What names would you add to the ones included so far?  What are your thoughts about marginal improvement each respective replacement woud bring?  How well does the historical player fit the current NFL?

FYP and you're missing Ghost as a UDFA hit from 2022.

Every time I see Barnett dudes still taking cheap shots.  He's so close or trying to get his first 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty

This might explain a little why Coach Lanning decided to be a little more pointed with his pregame speech to his players prior to facing off with Colorado.  Apparently, a lot of Colorado players have been reading their own media coverage and got a little ahead of themselves.

Trash talk is always best served on the scoreboard... JMO.

I think Barnett is coming in for Sweat but yeah less Barnett would be good.

I never had one from Sunoco but probably a bit young for those. I think we had Fleer sticker books and I loved collecting them. That and gumball machine helmets. There was something great about creating the whole league on your own, rather than buying the entire set at Ds Sporting Goods. Need an Eagles helmet but you get your 6th Cardinals helmet. Better find a buddy to trade with.

I remember collecting plastic Winnie the Pooh figures out of cereal boxes when I was a kid. I got so many Poohs and Piglets but getting a Christopher Robin was tough. Fortunately my sister's friend's brother was collecting them too and traded (or maybe gave) me one.

It was a knee contusion but he's fine. Can't find the tweet but not worried about him. Actually wasn't bad to see Opeta get some PT with the game in hand.

I dunno about other folks, but I don't consider games "in hand" until it's time for a kneel down. I think I didn't start feeling good until the third down conversion to DeVonta Smith on the quick swing pass.

I said it throughout the game yesterday, Baldy is right. Hurts needs to trust his OL more. It's hurting the passing game. It's way more to blame than Brian Johnson.

I wonder if the shoulder injury from last year has him skittish.

The OL played like crap the first week, OK in week 2, and better in week 3.  I don't blame Hurts at all, he needs consistency to feel comfortable

Vikings and Broncos.  Which would give the Bears thr #1 and #2 overall picks in the draft.  That's going to be a very sought after position for very and coach in the offseason.

I think there’s levels to it. There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about something whether it’s a sports team or Swift as an artist and having fun at her concert. It’s scenes like this that I think are disturbing and weird.

All the talking pre-game is common in football.  No big deal.

The pre-game speech by Lanning is common.  Also not a big deal.  If you listened to every single coaches pre-game speech to his team there will be many that are way worse and a million times more disrespectful.

Deion and his team are not to blame for the attention.   Blame the talking heads at ESPN/Fox and the idiot casuals who know nothing about college football for providing all this hype and attention.

Someone else (McLane maybe?) said all the players of Lurie, Howie, Nick and Julian met the night before the draft to decide if he was on or off their board, so its possible.

But both those stories kinda contradict the "Carter has a hard stop at #10" that was going around a month or two before the draft.

I think the Eagles were in a unique situation with Carter, with Davis and Dean and Cox and Graham as mentors.

That put them in a different situation than many teams, where he might have been under more pressure with less guidance

Did not ever see those.  But I'll take an Eyore off your hands at the right number.  I also have a soft spot for that coke head, Tigger.

I don't think it is a big deal, but others wanted to make it a big deal.  (Including former players - Dez Bryant for one, calling it 'disrespectful' and some other fools including some on here pretty much implied or straight up said that Lanning's speech was racist in some manner or another.)

But, Colorado is absolutely "to blame" for the attention they are garnering though.  Deion WANTS to bring attention to the program, so he is absolutely working to say things and do things that will bring attention to Colorado.  (And it makes sense for him to do so.)  And as a result, Colorado has had a nationally broadcast game 3 times (a fourth is coming this week) already.  They haven't been a premier program going back over 2 decades.  No one has cared about them since Bill McCartney was the HC in the early 90s.  That has changed dramatically in a matter of months, and its not a coincidence.  That was one of Deion's big goals for the organization.  Bring the spotlight to it.  His name and cachet helps to draw the attention, but he is absolutely seeking it out as well.  Attention brings money, money brings players... players bring more attention, more attention brings more players, etc.

I didn't have a problem with what either side did and the sensitivity being given to this is so stupid. I love that Colorado stomped on the O pre-game on the field. I love that Shilo Sanders was trash-talking in the pre-game warmups. College football seems like the last bit of old-school hostility that we have in sports because of the rivalries. I know it's the day and age we're in and it is what it is, but I think the level of intensity in professional sports has dissipated over the years because of how all the athletes are friends now, train together, and go to each others' parties in the offseason. I think it'd be awesome if Steph Curry and LeBron were at each others' throats trash-talking before a big game having to be broken up, but you don't really see that anymore.

But if you're okay with Deion and his guys talking trash pre-game, you have to accept the consequences post-game if you get dog-walked like they did. Which is why I didn't have a problem with what Lanning said or his players. You can't have it both ways. If Colorado upset Oregon and beat them by three scores while punching in a late TD in the end to run up the score, Colorado and Deion supporters would have LOVED that. "He's making a statement. He's changing the culture. He's showing they aren't to be messed with." That 100% would have been the reaction from guys like Dez Bryant, and I would have been fine with that too. It adds to the intensity of the game.

But you can't moan and complain when it backfires on you, which is what happened.
