When you have backups in, it's easier to play man coverage. The man coverage may be bad, but it's easy to point at a player and say "I got him".

Re: Slay. He did this last year too. He'll have games where he looks like he's not trying/slow, but turn it up when he wants to. At age 32, you can tell he picks his spots more. I'd be more worried about Slay if he's getting killed in man coverage. He's not. His big plays are in zone, which is why his "targeted at" stats look bad.

Sounds like what you are saying is... don't pay a premium price for a player on the downside of their career.    I agree.  The unfortunate part of the Slay situation is that the team looks to be locked in to him through 2025.  And that's not great.  They could cut him after 2024 (with the June 1 distinction and spread that $24M dead over two years), but that's not a great option.

This has to be the worst contract in nfl history

Seems we were right to laugh at the Giants when they made that deal.

I forgot just how BAD that deal was. $41 mil per season, and they can't even think about releasing him until 2025 because the cap hit is going to be brutal.

He seems to have regressed quite a bit.  Looking at his stats, he's a 68.5% completion rate and a 5.8 yards per pass.  Helloooooo Capt. Checkdown.

Coming out of Bama, ricks should know that stuff

The joke that is ESPN. Yes, at first glance we all thought the same thing. They clearly had the time to edit this and still thought they had to blur it to post it?

@mattwill

I have a good feeling:

Eagles 37-24

6 sacks and 2 turnovers.

Giants fans rationalized that contract by saying "He needs help".  That was a complete waste of a contract because the Giants wouldn't be much worse off with a stop-gap QB; Jones was/is never going to take them deep into the playoffs, regardless who the head coach/OC is.

Instead of throwing $40M per season on a long term deal for a marginal starting QB, they'd have been far better off trading a couple of high picks to get into the top 5 in the draft for a QB with a much higher upside.  Laugh at Gettleman for drafting Jones at #6 overall, but laugh harder at Schoen and Daboll for signing off on his long term extension.

Some of those "other" bonuses are weird so if we cut him at the beginning of next season it won't be that bad. Overthecap/Spotrac struggle with all of Howie's machinations.

Slay is still good. He's just not Pat Surtain .

On the ESPN BROADCAST they got it right the next half inning.  They are doing it for clicks.  This is one of the biggest issues with today's "journalism"... sensationalize everything.   ESPN also talked to him about it after the game, and he explained it.  BUT, ESPN doesn't care about truth, they care about ratings and clicks.

Wow did not see this coming

Chase Claypool.  Chances he gets:

  • Benched for the year
  • Gets Traded
  • Plays for the Bears again this season

BTW... fewer than 20k in attendance in Tampa.  Lowest for a post-season game since 1919, when they had a ticket handling issue.

MLB should be embarrassed.

Schmoopie was at game 2 in '08.  Said it was mostly Phillies fans.  She may have brought a sign that said something to the effect of "Been a fan prior to 2008".

Hopefully this speeds up the transition.

Sure, that assumes Evans has a clue out there himself.   Watching Evans out there, either he sucks, he's lost, or both.

You don't get cut by the Saints if your best days aren't well behind you, but I appreciate the will the try something to address the situation. Gonna need a lot more than just Roby to fix what ails our pass defense though.

Such a stumble for that new regime to go all in on him and different parts lf that roster that just aren't good.

We probably shouldn't have too high of expectations, however, I'd take the Saints top 3 CB over the Eagles any day of the week. Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo are a very good young starting duo. Alontae Taylor is a good CB3.

Just no room for a 31 year old Roby.

I guess he is worth a look for a few weeks until the deadline, but you are right Howie needs to make a move. He is trying to Suh the problem like last year, but it's not going to work.
