Thoughts.  Past in season trades suggest that there isn’t enough time for the QB to familiarize with a WR to get good value.  So I would nix those trades.

Fred Johnson was a journeyman G/T that was a late signee to the PS.  If Steen was ready, wouldn’t he be starting instead of Opeta?  I still think Driscoll is the first T in for Lane.  Fact he hasn’t played is a good thing. Would anyone be comfortable with Clark as a T based on his past performance here?  Trading Driscoll, especially with him, Kelce and Opeta on expiring contracts. Would really be looking at extensions not trades.

The funny thing is that the positions where the Eagles are deep are TE and DB.  If they were to trade for a S, the other team is now light at S.  Right now Baker is banged up and Chinn out of favor.  If they were to give up draft capital, why not the pick and Edmunds?  I would counter, the Eagles don’t need a SS.  They need someone with FS capabilities.  That’s not Chinn.  Baker, banged up this year and $18.5 million cap hit next year is a pipe dream given the Eagles should be considering bye extensions instead (Lovato, Driscoll/Opeta, Swift, OZ/Watkins etc.)

Let’s talk about draft capital.  Right now the Eagles have no third next year (Ringo pick) and no fourth for the next two years.  (Quinn and Swift).  Cannot trade "likely” compensatory picks.  So several trade propositions in the article aren’t real possibilities.  That’s shoddy reporting, if you ask me (something that seems a universal standard nowadays).

Since 2017, has Howie had a successful in season trade?  Closest thing to any value was a third for Golden Tate because he caught one TD and netted a fifth compensatory pick.  Not my definition of success.  Quinn? (Noting the Eagles have one DE, Sweat, under contract next year).  Just say no, Howie.

All that does is make me more concerned about the probable big, crooked number Nola will give up tonight

To be fair, the pass Golden Tate caught won us a playoff game.  The Eagles let him walk so they could throw more money at Nelson Agholor for another year of being bad.

Watkins, Driscoll and a 3rd is a little steep for Asante Samuel Jr.  I am not sure why the Chargers would make that deal but I would like Asante on this team.

Ed Kracz proposed several trade possibilities, one of which was the following.  Thoughts?

2. Driscoll, Watkins and a third-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for Asante Samuel Jr. and a Day 3 draft pick. This is probably a longshot because the Chargers are sitting at 2-2 and certainly still believe they can make the playoffs, but they lost receiver Mike Williams for the season with a torn ACL, so adding more depth at the position might be something they would consider.

Samuel, who is the son of former Eagles standout of former three-time Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel, also is signed through next year on his rookie deal.

And who couldn’t use a player like Driscoll, a rock-steady player who is in the final year of his rookie deal and may even be able to unseat Jamaree Salyer, a 23-year-old former sixth-round pick, at right guard?

All that said, a second-round pick may be required to pry Samuel away, and that may be too rich for Roseman.

A. Why would the Chargers want two players on expiring contracts that probably wouldn't help them much?

B. How did he make the leap from "A Day 3 pick" to "might have to be a 2nd round pick"? That's a huge gap.

Phillies absolutely can win this series and win tonight.  The Braves weakness is their lack of depth due to injuries.  Phils need to jump all over their starter from the start.  If they do that the, CBP crowd will go crazy and that'll give the Phils a huge edge.

A lot of those trade proposals are immediately rejected by the other team.

I'd argue that TE isn't deep at all. Just because they have numbers there doesn't mean they have depth. Jack Stoll has played 29% of the snaps, Calcaterra a whopping 9%. Albert O just dressed for the first time and don't think he played a down. JAGs don't make the position deep.

I'm not sure what is more overblown. Quez Watkins speed, Kenny Gainwell's short yardage ability or Jack Stoll's blocking.

My assumption is cut sooner than later. They will have to make room for Dean, maybe Christian Ellis is cut and then Jurgens when he's healthy.

I love trade deadline season. Watkins has been here for 4 years and still routinely makes fundamental mistakes but suddenly has value going somewhere else for the remaining 12 or less games before he's a FA, mid-season. I'm sure he'll pick up a new offense in no time and be very, very productive.

He's a 72 overall with 97 speed. That's a 4th round pick all day long! Come on you know better.

3-1 Bucs vs 4-1 Lions this week, my non-eagles game of the week

I thought the Bucs were going to be the worst team in the NFL, but after seeing TB absolutely shellack the Saints I wouldn’t be surprised if they were more than just competitive here. This could very well decide the #3 team in the NFC

While technically true, it’s also possible we use that 3rd on a different WR who’s more productive for us and we’re not in that position to need a game winning TD

I forgot were packaging him with a 6th round pick. That should get us Khalil Mack and Rashawn Slater from the Chargers.

I think this is new, but you can now go back through the Pro Football Reference grids and do the ones you've missed. Also has your scores from every one.

Difference is Nola blew that game cause he can fold under pressure. He's starting tonight.

31-13 has been the most popular of the early predictions ... and the average of the nine is also 31-13.

For those who have missed it, here is a a link to last week's results

@mattwill

Phillies 7
Braves 3

Bonus:  Harper gets 2 XB hits
Nola pitches 7 strong innings before turning it over to the BP.

I make chicken soup. Strip the meat, use the bones for broth. Carrots, celery, onions, garlic, ginger. Bay leaves and tarragon. Simmer for two hours. Cheat by adding a little Better than Bouillon. Add the meat back in with cooked egg noodles (cook the egg noodles separately!!).

Your salad sounds worthy. Anything with sriracha added is good.

One trick I've learned for salads is to go half and half with Mayo and Greek Yogurt.

I'm pre-diabetic with slightly elevated cholesterol, so I brought my A1C down 3 full points by changing my diet, cut back on red meat, cut out simple starches for the most part (no rice, white bread, bananas, etc.), and do little fixes like this to cut back saturated fats. I use a little honey to balance the yogurt, in recipes calling for sour cream, you don't need it when you half & half, but with mayo the yogurt can be a little sour.

Are you going to flex their time slot?

I don't really get this narrative that OZ has been some magnet for big plays this year. He caught one long ball on an improvised deep route against the Bucs for a touchdown and he made a clutch first down catch against Washington. As far as I can recall, that's his two positive plays. Two. Meanwhile he also dropped a pretty catchable ball against the Commies that would have resulted in a first down but instead killed the drive.

And I don't mean it as a knock because he hardly played, but he also didn't do anything flashy in preseason either.

It's one thing to say that Quez has disappointed. It's true. But it's another thing altogether to say that OZ has been anything special either.

Oh hell, just bring back Avant. That's exactly what Hurts needs in a 3rd WR a reliable target that can get open underneath and move the chains.

This is going to be a weird game
