This isn't remotely true, I value youth and athleticism probably more than age and experience. Not sure what you're referencing here, but Hardman isn't old. And I really don't think he's all that good, which is why I said maybe for a 7th rounder.

Not old?  He has five seasons in the NFL, and the average NFL career span of players by position below.  The Introduction and Growth phases take a player to 3.3.  After that they are in the Mature and Declining phases.

  • Kickers/Punters — 4.87
  • Quarterbacks — 4.44
  • Offensive Linemen — 3.63
  • Defensive Linemen — 3.24
  • Linebackers — 2.97
  • Cornerbacks — 2.94
  • Tight Ends — 2.85
  • Wide Receivers — 2.81
  • Running Backs — 2.57
  • League average — 3.3

Does this mean Allen is our new take the top off guy?

I hope so ... and I hope he excels at it.

We are talking about 4 receptions and 21 yards worth of production over the season so far. What’s Quez doing with his hands, route running, adjusting to the ball in the air? All Allen needs to do is show his speed and have teams respect the fact he can blow by the safety and catch a go ball. That’s it.

Until Allen actually "catches” a go ball there isn’t a team in the NFL that would adjust their defense just because he’s on the field.

Doesn’t work that way in 2023.  There needs to be a viable or proven "deep threat” in order to achieve what you’re insinuating…and Allen isn’t that - not yet, anyway.

Most teams wouldn’t even know who he was if he was on the field, let alone adjust their coverage because of him.

He needs to prove that he can run routes and catch go balls - then we might have something.

Catches a ball is a high hurdle, no pun intended. Let’s see him get an offensive snap first.

That’s the beautiful thing though, Allen just needs to do it once. We are talking about a decoy speed role to keep the defense honest, because Quez isn’t doing much outside of that.

USC stinks.

He's 25 years old lol. In actuality, Hardman is the exact type of player you're describing. Young and athletic. A guy you take a chance on at a cheap price. As opposed to a more experienced vet.

Someone said Penix was out of the Heisman race earlier. Uh, I think it's Caleb. Penix still in.

I have a hard time believing a 28 year old who has been playing football his entire life (Devon Allen) is suddenly going to go from PS to meaningful contributor.

With Evans to IR, I guess we will be getting quite a bit of Sidney Brown at safety.  Even if they remain stubborn and go with Edmunds (which I bet they do), Brown is going to get on the field.

No one wants it but Caleb is literally holding up USC by himself

Anyone else nervous about our guys playing on that sorry excuse for a field tomorrow? F artificial turf.

You are counting "young" in life years.  In the NFL "young" is counted by seasons of play.

He's in it for the long haul.

Hopefully he doesn't blow it on the back end of the schedule.

THAT'S what they should ban to prevent injuries.
