Joe Douglas....Rodgers...Reddick... maybe the Jets are like Mush in the movie A Bronx Tale?

I LOVE the Eagles….but I’m trying to be realistic. This Eagles’ team looks…..MEH…a little better than average in a league that has four or five really good teams….Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Lions…I mean if the Lions don’t make it to the SUPER BOWL this year with a weak NFC, they may NEVER make it.

Eagles wins are Packers week 1 when anything can happen, Giants, Cowpies without Dak, Browns, Bengals, Jags, Saints, another just above average Redskins, and losses to the Bucs and Falcons…not a great or even good resume. Beat BOTH the Ravens and Steelers then i will believe.

What do you guys think?

It felt like the Eagles struggle against these bad teams too. Ugggg

IMO.. all that matters is the competition in 2024.  If the Eagles are a top 4 or 5 team....then they are a top 4 or 5 team.    I don't consider the Chiefs anything too special compared to teams I've seen in my decades watching football...but they sit as 2 time defending champs and at 9-1.

I don't think beating the Steelers or the Ravens will change anything for me, it's going to come down to what happens in January.

In other words...just like 2022...it doesn't matter if I think they are a great team... just matters if they can beat the teams they have to play.

OK a little deep thoughts for you. I LOVE the great skill guys. I am more atune to offense than defense(disclaimer). I love the exciting downfield passes ala "air Coryelle",but what I think you are seeing now and it looks "MEH" is a team that is more and becoming more "in control". Barkley is just a stud, but when he makes an error it's because we are wearing the poor guy out. I'm sure he is having more fun with this team than the Gnats, but seriously we are overworking him. We need to see other RB's giving him a breather throughout the game. We can't overwork him then expect him to make game winning catches when he beat to death. Reduce his snaps a LITTLE. I saw him on a run literally fall down before he was tackled because he was worn out. I LOVE the guy,but he could be here 3 years and we are burning him out year 1. PLEASE,let's keep him around for 2 more years, but you won't do that wearing off the tread doing burnouts in year 1. So like to see Gains and Shipley even more, not in garbage time I mean during the game so Bark is good to go in the 1/4 quarter not gasping for air. When we hit garbage time,if I was the coach I would call SLOT GUY plays as read 1 and do this when we have the game won. We need to FORCE Hurts to find these guys until he will do it on his own. That would be a top priority for me. Not just stick them in so they can run around but call the actual plays for them I don't care if the pass is incomplete,we need to force Hurts to loook elsewhere besides our 2 stars . Everyone says Dotson didnt help or that Wikson ad ASnith are rooks, but they aren't going to learn just running patterns. They need the reward for doing that.Like to see 4 slot calls for each guy as call #1. Give each 1 4 targets a game. That's 16 times Hurts has to see those slot guys.. MAKE him do it. even 3 each would be beneficial.. He needs to build up that trust. Now back to the "MEH. Seeing much more solidity beginning to gel for the defense.Outstanding!! Now the O has more confidence that if we blow a series they can hold or get the ball back. More rushing by "other guys(doesn't need to be ALOT,but an increase. Same with our 4 slot options, I wish I could teach the peripheral vision lessns my HS taught all of us. It really HELPED. Hurts would be great if he could learn whet I know on that subject. I would teach him for free airfare, meals, hotel nice rental car with and gas and $400.00 a day for 1 week and you would see the improvement(yes I can do this). Could be the best 4,000 bucks they ever spent. Thats all being said the "MEH" is the boring way they control the game. We can run the ball to wipe mega minutes off clocks(although Siri pulls some bonehead calls there. We see a few slash plays, get a nice 1014 point lead, then grind on the ground in a semi clock drain. With Bark it could be exciting or not,but the joy is watching that clock drain away. Since we made Hurts a game manager and not and NFL QB we started winning and looking good doing it. It's boring to me too,but we need to get used to it. I will miss the 10 deep airballs in lieu of a grinding long drive based on the run with a pass or hurts run tossed in. We won a SB with a game manager QB in Foles and they brought that back because it WORKS

Ok... I'll throw in my 2 cents here

1.  Game 2... Barkley getting 22 carries is no excuse for dropping a gimme game winning pass.   The dude is physically dominant at the end of games.

But I agree we should mix the other guys in... more so because I want to keep running instead of forcing a pass when Barkley is out .

2.   No way do I want 16 more passes...because we need to force Hurts to throw to the slot?      20 passes total has been the winning formula... I'm not taking points off the board, giving the other team more clock to have the ball, forcing my OL to have to pass block more...  when you stated correctly that game manager Hurts is what wins.

I think every so often you turn into 2011 Andy Reid...where you think the game starts with us having a 3 TD lead?     Let's not be arrogant. The score starts 0-0.  We get ahead, we run the ball.

As you said...priority is winning the game.

Those "dink" passes to slot guys are like a run. They are high percentage completion passes. You could run for 4 yards or throw to a slot for 4 yards and maybe break a tackle, what is the difference if you get the 4 yards? It breaks up the D and makes them have to cover the slot which we aren't doing right now. No one is scared of our slot guys because we have no production. Now they have to worry about the slot pass which makes running the ball a little easier. Besides Goedert, they are great guys to hit when blitzed. If you make them pay for blitzing they won'y do it as much. The problem is Hurts doesn't look for the slot,he just holds on and takes sacks. We can use Gains in the slot sometimes too, there is no law that says we can't use him there

Our identity is the physical game... I'm not making Hurts throw when he doesn't have to.  You don't use NFL games for " practice "

Hurts has to get that part better on his own... I'm not putting the rest of the team out there and lesson my chance of winning because Hurts needs reps dinking and dunking.

IMO... he needs reps reading the whole field,  3rd and 4th reads...if the play is always going over the middle for 4 yards, he isn't going to get better.

We have one ball...one play call... we can't do everything during a game.

You can practice 16 extra passes and get Shipley and Gainwell reps too.  Win the game and move on with less plays as possible so the injury risk drops.

LOL practice? Can't you and I both throw a 4 yard pass? But ok reduce from 16 to whatever amount works. The point is we should not be taking sacks when you can throw those little passes for a gain and get some production from the slot

Still nothing from @cunninghamtheman 🤔

Right.   Run the ball ..can't take sacks when you run the ball. I agree.

I agree we should "spell” Barkley a LITTLE more, but wearing him out? Going to an NFL game vs watching on TV makes you realize….they just stand around a LOT waiting for TV. Franco Harris, Barry Sanders….didn’t come off the field every two plays like they do now….I get it…it’s a different game now. Just saying.

Well, I hope this team is as good as you guys think. I just don’t see it.

By the way, Cunningham may have realized he spent WAYYYYYYY too much time commenting here. I have no idea how some of you find so much time to spend here. I enjoy reading everyone’s comments until it becomes a circular argument that never ends…..

Again.... are you asking if the team is good. ..in comparison to football history?

Or are you asking how this team compares to the 2024 NFL?

I'll ask you...how many teams playing now...do you think are better than the Eagles?   That's your answer to the 2nd question and why they may or may not advance deep into the playoffs.

Guess you failed to see the game where Barkley was running free and fell down before being touched because he was TIRED. When you get tired you make mistakes too. If he is our offense why did we pay Hurts? AJ? DSmith? I can hand the ball off for 15 million a year, think of the savings!!!!

It's been alot better since they took the decision making away from Hurts and made him a game manager. IDK about a SB,but we can win a few playoff games IMO
