Honestly want to see us lean away from that play if we need to use it like 3rd and goal need a td by all means do it but first 2nd just use the RB Dickerson and Mailata do the work on the tush push

Dickerson gets the jump to move the pile and Mailata finishes off pushing sideways ..while Hurts leans and let's the guys in the back push him. But Dickerson and Mailata are the keys to the play.

March 26, 20241 yr Hurts has traits better to complete that play than anybody we’ve really ever seen before. He’s stout little brick of a QB that keeps his legs moving, guys jumping on him trying to effect him without good access to bring him down is so very difficult. Defender can’t just reach around a block and one armed sort of drag Hurts to the ground.

March 26, 20241 yr But our players take that punishment a couple times every week. Opponents only get worn and beat down the two or three times …THAT GAME!
March 26, 20241 yr Dickerson didn’t look great this past season. Regardless of voting Pro Bowls. He had quality moments. Was good in the short yardage Shove.
March 26, 20241 yr Clearly coached Hurts the most on avoiding the hits. Told him to not concern himself with finishing and making gains with his legs.
March 26, 20241 yr Avoid hits in space running….but directly lineup against all their D testing off in a scrum on him.

They has it described as Hurts being the passenger and allowing himself to be pushed in ...just bury the head behind Dickerson and allow the guys behind to push.

However...on this play the Eagles use and how Stoutland designs it... Dickerson getting the initial jump and Mailata finishing the push on the angle.. is what makes the play. The placing of the ball carrier behind the LG and LT who block on the angle pushing inside is what makes the play...with the guys finishing from behind. Was a great video segment on the play.
March 26, 20241 yr I am an offensive minded fan and coach, and even I hate the rule change to eliminate the hip drop tackle. Hell, the defenders already can’t do 1,000 things. Let’s make it impossible to stop an offense from gaining 10 yards on 4 plays. I bet scoring goes up 5 points/game just from this one rule change. Ridiculous. I also think the need to find a kickoff play that will work with no injuries has become a CIRCUS! Hell, put the ball on the 25 and play ball.
March 26, 20241 yr Now we have another guy back there who can squat a ton in Bark Hybrid KO this yr, may actually have to watch them now. Increases the need for good KO returners, estimating 60-70% of KO's will be returned now

It does appear they’ve identified this tackle for causing a high rate of injury. Hopefully it will only be enforced on aggression situations. Fine if they get rid of the defender throwing his legs up in the air to really drop tackle hard. Anything more than that? No idea….
