This is going to be entertaining because everyone on here would admit they were wrong on this... but it's going to be a challenge.   Just like you would argue today isn't Monday... you will try to find a spin.

But...you said the Eagles wanted to do the extension before having to exercise the 5th year option on May 2.   They exercised the option this morning, and then did the extension.

I was contending the fifth year option was always a large factor in the negotiations…along with guaranteed money. Seems like I was correct on both fronts…heavily.

The WR market is on the precipice of completely blowing up. So that fifth year option is actually a very great deal for The Slim Reaper. You(No Mas) can’t see this…because it’s heavy on the cap for 2025 instead of overly backloading things. In a rolling cap situation a good deal…is a good deal. Saves us money and was wise. No matter how hard it was for Rosie to choke down.

I haven’t seen how the contract actually breaks down yet. The fifth year option makes me think the signing bonus couldn’t be massive. Otherwise his cap hit next season would be over 20 mil.

To me, all this is a huge signal towards AJ’s future. He will have to rework his contract or be traded. Team will need to exercise the ‘Out Clause’….if it actually gets that far. Just no way they are going to suck up the end of that backloaded contract otherwise.  It makes an extension extremely difficult.

So ... why couldn't this exact deal get done after May 2?   As I said, we all know the Eagles weren't going to not exercise the 5th year option and let him walk after this year?

The 5th year option is $15.5 mil... in your mind, what is crucial about this #?  and why May 2nd mattered

Other than reading a hack article from a clueless media guy and putting it out there early to sound smart?   What was the reason and how would the numbers have changed if this was done after May 2?

To me this is a signal that the Eagles lock up a good young player ... prior to year 4 so that they can spread out the cap hits.  Business as usual.

Very mundane ...boring stuff that they do...without the soap opera mindset of some of us on here and some in the media also.

This was purely good business.

3 year 75 mil. I stated 25 mil annual salary as being a clear target. I was right on with that target.

Two WR in the top 5 of receptions over expectations. Not bad from a QB that can’t throw. Must have been somebody else back there getting them both the ball. All these passes completed over expectations and records being broken in the passing game. Clearly signs of a team with a QB struggling heavily to throw the ball.

AJ sets record for most yards with a new team. AJ setting records with most consecutive games receiving this past season. AJ stepping up massively his career receiving numbers.Hurts breaking the all time franchise record scoring. All somehow being spun as a QB that can’t pass the ball.

Yeah... were you correct that the extension starts in 2026?    2 years from now ... the $25 mil has way less value correct?    Smith won't see the last 3 years of that deal... redone before 2027... in a way that puts more money in his pocket and lowers the cap for the Eagles.

I apologize...Smith won't sed the last 2 years of that deal.

YES - we got it done EARLY

Yeah....agreed...you can tell the offense is different with AJ and without him.  Curious as to the QBs numbers and the teams score the games AJ missed?

Hmm.....say look at both Tampa playoff games and the last Giants game.

But let's also look at AJ prior to being an Eagle....he did fairly well....maybe it was that elite QB he had in Tennessee?

Maybe Rich Gannon carried Jerry Rice and Brown for the Raiders that year too....lol

Yes...6 months before the signing bonus wouldn't count toward 2024.

Not a good deal - it's a GREAT deal! Was in the car when I heard - have Sirius XM. What a relief! Dullass gonna need clean undees! Hold out CeeDee!

Clearly AJ was the beneficiary of the best QB play he has experienced in his career.

Just imagine if AJ had Mahomes, Allen or Burrow

I'm really surprised we got this done so early, it's an honest contract on both sides. Other teams will have to pay up. Locking in a draft pick makes it even nicer - home grown!

I would've liked to have seen 4 yrs. Can't have everything - where would you put it - Steve Wright.

Very greedy(hard to blame you though)…got The Slim Reaper for five more seasons under contract. That’s a huge win. Good for DeVonta to grab hold of all that guaranteed loot.

A list of three…no problems to list Hurts fourth. But clearly AJ has done nothing but thrive after taking his friends advice to holdout and force a trade to Philly.
Curious where you’d rank AJ as a WR amongst that same company? Is he better than Diggs? Can’t make much of any case he’s better that The Cheetah or Chase. AJ would have been a downgrade for those QBs.

Picture of Saquan beside QB1 practicing. Two very thick strong guys together back there now. Going to be very difficult for defenders.

I see a bunch of terrible coaching g taking place in those games to look at. Why was AJ and Hurts out there getting injured that last game against the giants anyway? Just stupid. All the kings horses and all the kings men…weren’t going to bring home a win ….in either playoff matchup lost to TB.

Can’t believe I’m witnessing a coach lose a team so vividly and returning the next season like this.

Jefferson reports are he wants to force the Vikes into a Watson type signing. All guaranteed contract. All the players have been trying to force and accomplish this for a long time. Jefferson really in a terrific position to make a real go at it.
