Bigger concern for me is if we can get the pocket moved so Hurts can see over the big OL and attack the middle of the field easier. Looking at things the saints did for Brees or even KC with Mahomes. 
 

Really no excuse for why we can not utilize the middle of the field in the passing game plenty of teams have figured it out with shorter QBs

There are plenty of routes over the middle the height isn’t that much of an obstacle. The quick slants and crossers…some pick plays.

I mean... you still have to have the QB see over the line... you are talking about routes that start wide, we throw it wide as they come towards the middle... BG is talking about hitting the receiver over the middle.  

That's dependent on the line of scrimmage...not so much the route. 

Hurts is great at throwing those routes...  the ones right up the middle,  he seems to have trouble seeing.

We know Hurts is great at those...especially with AJ.    But dude struggles to see right there over the middle.   Some gimme plays.  

It is what it is... I struggle to dunk a basketball... some things need height, that's life.    I like your idea of researching some concepts to move the pocket or just see what New Orleans did.  But a big difference is Brees grew up passing the football... Hurts running.  Much easier to develop as a passer ...when passing was the only reason you made the league.  Brees needed all the little nuances from the start.   Hurts...when in doubt,  tuck and run...that's tough to overcome.

Plenty of other QBs that were on the shorter side. Kyler comes to mind not sure how well AZ is at throwing over the middle though. 
 

Brees just the only guys that comes to mind for shorter QBs that success all over the field

Agreed, with a small difference, Hurts needs to move, within the pocket,sidesteps work, so he can see AROUND them and have clear passing lanes which is another drawback to the RPO because any commitment you make will be gone in 2.5 seconds and you are pretty much stuck behind the LOS either way. You can run from there or you are stuck behind your Oline trying to get the ball out. With the RPO,that freezes your Oline in place (but I'm uneducated and unaware,so what would I know?). Other teams mix the RPO in,not use it as their basic form of offense like we do

I mean hurts has that ability to move but as a play caller you won’t always have that so designing plays that aid the shorter QB or Bree’s should be something we look at.

I was looking more so on what the player caller can do to aid us

Right,watch Brees and their O line. They used play/action alot more than the RPO. They had the RB to do it(Kamara). Now with Bark,I am hoping the OC can steer Hurts into more of that style and move away from the RPO some. Play action allows the O line to move around more. It's a very subtle difference,but as you watch them vs us you will see how those small differences offer throwing lanes. Of course after so many years Brees was also great at the deep timing routes and Hurts isn't there yet. I'm trying to explain it,probably not doing well,but if it's play action you can open up gaps like a RUN plays which offer a clear vision of sight for the QB to the receivers in the middle. The RPO though freezes your Oline because they have to stay back to guard that play as a possible QB run. So yeah watch Brees and see if you can spot it. I'm hoping this is what we can get Hurts to do. Bark offers that run threat we haven't had in awhile,even with Sanders

I mean Bree’s was doing well before Kamara…. McAllister I think was the first RB for the saints then there was the meh years with Ingram before he got it going… Bush etc.

But I do agree saints utilized PA well… but even without PA they moved the pocket really well they would roll Bree’s out quite often even without the PA.

Well they mostly always had the banger RB in the backfield no matter who it was. Brees and mahomes use those little side steps,Hurts needs to do that without automatically thinking if he moves sideways he has to run. He doesn't but in his mind the commitment has already been made. But once again the RPO freezes your Oline at the LOS

Another thing(mistake we make). PA you need to establish the running game. Sometimes we do that,then may get stopped on a series or 2,but then we abandon it. You need to keep that going by making adjustments on the fly,something Siri is not really good at

Just need cohesive game planning and playcalling. Give that to the O and that side of the ball will be fine. Fangio needs to just build his D all season. 

Anyone else think Howie adds a vet RG to the roster? yes I know we got a late one,but seems like a bit of putting too much faith in Steen who really is unproven. Just as an "insurance" move. maybe Steen will prove himself in camp,but still would be nice to have a solid vet in here

He already brought in Hennessy from the Falcons. It’s possible to add another. Especially if a cap casualty type shakes loose. Don’t see it as anything pressing now really though. Get in TC and the PS to get a better look at things and judge the situation then could easily be a wise plan. You know Rosie is always going to be listening out for any and all trade block rumors…at all positions…except LB and RB of course.

Never happened before…doubt it ever happens again. 

Q: He’s Mr. Reliable. No penalties in 2023 and only 1 pass interference penalty in 2022. And he hasn’t missed a game in 3 years, with 40 straight starts.

This one is for you FL. Wasn’t sure if you realized Q didn’t just play all small schools.
